DESIGN
L-PORT writing table adopts a design concept inspired by the Port House designed by
leading designer Zaha Hadid. The idea is taken from the unique design of the building
as well as its colors, which give a futuristic impact to the eye that sees it. L-PORT
provides ergonomic office space, comfortable multifunction storage, and a place for a
coffee cup. The design concept is post-pandemic workspace furniture for indoor use
with a futuristic concept, so that users will get a sense of the future while using it. This
is to enhance the modern, futuristic mode used by Zaha Hadid in her design. The shape
of the Port House building is designed to be integrated into an L-shaped writing table.
This will be able to add new value to the design.
MATERIAL
Oakwood was chosen for L-PORT because of its highly sustainable nature and fast-
growing cycle, as well as its durability and safety. The outside and inside layers of the
furniture were painted with an optional artificial vinyl color to match the workspace
interior.
DETAILS
The kerf bending technique is used to create the curve area, which involves cutting
away a number of slots. Kerfing makes the parts thinner so they can be flexed to follow
a curve. L-PORT is connected by combining the pieces of the writing table part with
hanger bolts and t-nuts.
PRODUCT COSTING

(Period Cost) + RM 16,800 (Manufacturing Overhead Cost)
= RM 46,680.
The cost above involved in the production of 100x L-PORT,
hence the unit cost of L-PORT:
(RM 46,680 / 100 = RM 466.80)
Selling price at 1+60% = RM 1200 per unit of L-PORT.
