OBJECTIVE

 To develope pupils that are more confident and not have low self esteem in us-
ing English language in their daily conversation.

 To encourage and develope interest in pupils to master English language skills in
the schools of Melaka.

 To develope awareness in pupils regarding the importance of mastering
English for their future, specifically in the importance of spelling words
correctly.

RULES OF THE COMPETITIONS

 Rule 1: Spelling of words follows “British English” and CEFR standard.

 Rule 2: Camera must be turned on at all times for the participants. Participants
must face the camera while spelling out the words while having both hands in
the air.

 Rule 3 : Any device or person assisting the participants are not allowed, i.e.:
pen, paper, phones, dictionary or family members. Not following this rule may
result in automatic elimination.

 Rule 4: There should not be any person or family members near participants
when the competition is on going. Failure to abide to this rule may result in
elimination.

 Rule 5 : Time allocated for each participants which is 30 seconds includes the
time for participants to ask for meaning of word, or sample sentence and
spelling out the word. It starts when the Master Speller states YOUR TIME
STARTS NOW .

FLOW OF COMPETITION

 During the competition, among those involved are the Master Speller,
Time Keeper, Word Recorder and Judges.

 At the beginning of the competition, the Master Speller will give a briefing
regarding the flow of activity to the participants.

 The competition will start once the Judges are ready.

 The Master Speller’s role is to say the word that need to be spelled out,
read out the meaning of the word, and read a sentence the word is used in, for
the participants.

 Participants are given 30 seconds to ask for meaning, or sample sentence before
spelling the word . The timer will go off at 30 seconds to signal the end of time
allocated.

 Every participant that spell the word correctly will get 3 marks. Scores
will be deducted for those who failed. The participants with low scores will be
eliminated from moving on to the next round. The competition is on going until
we find one winner.

FORMAT OF COMPETITION

 The competition is on going until there is one definite winner. The participants
who managed to spell the word given correctly will move on to the next round.
In case of a tie, a sudden death round will be carried out.

 Each school is compulsory to send a representative.

 Participants will log in to the Google Meet link shared prior to the live
competition.

 How the competition will be carried out:

 Master Speller will call out the participant’s name. Other participants
will have to mute their microphone when it is not their turn.

 Master Speller will say the word that needs to be spelled out. Then, he
would say “Your time starts now”.

 Participants are given 30 seconds. In that time participants can either
ask for meaning of the word, or sample sentence using the word before
spelling the word out, or directly spell the word out. Participants must
use the format ‘say-spell-say’ when spelling out the word.

 If a word is spelled correctly, participant will be awarded 3 marks and move on
to the next round. If a participant is unable to spell or ran out of time before
completing the spelling, then 2 marks will be deducted from their score. Three
participants with the lowest scores in each rounds will be eliminated.

 It is compulsory for all participants to wear school uniform during the
competition

 The competition is on going until there is one clear winner.
