AND RED GARLIC

Bawang Putih Bawang Merah is an old folk tale
in the famous Malay archipelago. It tells the
story of Bawang Putih who loses his parents
and is forced to sit under the care of his
stepmother who hates him, as well as his
stepbrother “Bawang Merah”. But eventually
Bawang Putih married the prince and lived
happily in the Palace.

• Tells the story of Pak Ali (Shariff Medan) has two wives, Labu (Minah Yem)
and Kundor (Siti Tanjung Perak). As a result of his first marriage, they were
blessed with a daughter named Bawang Merah (Latifah Omar). His second
wife, Kundor also gave birth to a daughter named Bawang Putih (Umi
Kalthum). After the death of Pak Ali who was stung by a smelt, the lives of
Labu and Bawang Merah became increasingly tormented when they were
forced to do various housework by Kundor. Adding to the sadness, the honey
killed Labu in a well behind their house. This murder was due to Kundor's
love not being reciprocated by Pak Mat (Puteh Lawak). Pak Mat was a friend
of the late Pak Ali.

One day, Bawang Merah had a dream about his mother who had died as a result of the
actions of his stepmother. Now his body has turned into a kaloi fish in the well. For
the next day, his mother had instructed him to bring peeled rice with yams to make
food for the kaloi fish. How happy Bawang Merah was when his mother showed up
and ate the food he brought. But this action of Bawang Merah has been observed by
Bawang Putih. He hurried home and told his mother that Aunt Labu had now turned
into a kaloi fish in the well. The angry Kundor continued to force Bawang Merah to
immediately seek medicine as a cure for his illness. While it is just a play. With that
short time, Kundor and Bawang Putih rushed to the well and continued to catch the
fish to make curry for Bawang Merah. A few hours later, Bawang Merah arrived
home, with good service, Kundor invited Bawang Merah with the food that had been
served. Really appetizing Bawang Merah ate his own mother as a result of the cruel
actions of Kundor and his son. In the afternoon, Bawang Merah went to the well to
feed his mother but this time his mother did not show up again. Bawang Merah is
very sad because his mother has disappeared

In the night, Bawang Merah once had a dream
that stated that the dish he ate this afternoon
was his own mother. As a heart healer later,
collect the bones and plant them in the open
field. A miraculous thing will happen soon.
After Bawang Merah woke up from the dream,
he continued to look for his mother's bones
under the house but to no avail. With the help of
the ants, the fish bones were successfully found
and he continued to plant as directed by the
dream.

The next day, Bawang Merah rushed to his mother's grave, how surprised
he was when he found that his mother's grave had been replaced with a
banyan tree and a cradle. Bawang Merah continued to rock while
humming until the sound of his singing was heard by a group of princes
(played by Mustapha Maarof) who were hunting in the forest. The
softness, beauty and melody of Bawang Merah's voice has succeeded in
capturing the heart of a prince of the state. He ordered Datuk
Bendahara (Mahmud June) and his assistant (played by Aman Belon) to
go and find out who the owner of the voice was. However, Bawang Merah
noticed that he was being watched and followed by someone. He
immediately told Kundor that during the day he was being followed by
the courtiers. After getting the news, Kundor has made up his mind to
marry Bawang Putih to the prince the next day.

The long-awaited day arrived, Datuk

Bendahara and his assistant called Kundor to
bring with him his daughter to perform his
song in front of the prince. But unfortunately,

the ploy was not successful until Datuk
Bendahara threatened Kundor to hand over
another daughter before her life was taken

away. Kundor finally just followed the
instructions. After Bawang Merah performed

his song, the prince proposed to Bawang

Merah. They get married and live happily.
Kundor and Bawang Putih are getting

jealous. In silence they intend to destroy the
marriage.

Among the cruel things he instigated was that Bawang Merah was
tricked into sprinkling dust from a bamboo tree and placed on a bed
on her husband's bed. in the face of her husband to test his affection
for her. This time, he could no longer forgive Bawang Merah's actions
and was sentenced to death. The next day on the day of judgment, by
the power of god, Bawang Merah's body disappeared and continued to
appear on the banyan tree while humming until a palace maid told the

King the truth about the mastermind who had deceived Bawang
Merah. The shocked king continued to order that Kundor be arrested
and sentenced to death. But because of the purity of Bawang Merah’s
heart she forgave her stepmother and she had persuaded her husband
to forgive her mother for the last time. At the end of the story, he just
obeyed the request from his wife and Kundor continued to regret his

actions against Bawang Merah. The death penalty ceremony was
canceled and Bawang Merah and her husband lived in peace and

harmony again.
