About
CSUDH & CISE
As it’s core belief and driving mission,The Center for Innovation in STEM Education (CISE) at
California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) leads the way in STEAM education. CISE
was created to address several issues at the heart of the STEM crisis: the need for qualified
science and math teachers; the need to inspire K-16 students through engaging STEM
experiences; and the need to increase the amount of underserved/underrepresented groups
graduating with STEM degrees and pursuing careers in the field. Working as spearheads,
CISE continues in the work towards bringing Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics to the forefront of K-16 education through innovative practices, a focus on
teacher development, and access to STEM experiences.
CISE is proud to complement the mission of California State University, Dominguez Hills
which is centrally located in the South Bay and the heart of Los Angeles. California State
University, Dominguez Hills is a diverse, welcoming community of learners and educators
collaborating to change lives and communities for the better. Following the riots, Gov. Pat
Brown visited Watts and saw an opportunity to create positive social change in the inner city.
He selected the current Dominguez Hills site in Carson to provide the minority population in
nearby urban neighborhoods with the best access possible to a college education.
In 1966, CSC Palos Verdes became CSC Dominguez Hills — just five miles from the center of
Watts — and grew to become one of the most diverse campuses in the
California State University system.

AboutFAB LAB
CISE has developed the Mobile Fabrication Laboratories and The Toyota Center for Innova-
tion in STEM Education to meet the needs of the programs mission.
CISE aims to provide participants with tangible STEM applications to investigate and solve
real-world challenges, serving K-16 students and teachers, pre-service STEM teachers,
CSUDH faculty, and community members. Through our work, we teach students to develop
21st century skills through Project-Based Learning; promote equity within the Southern
California region; and serve as a model for sustainable innovation in K-16 STEM education.
Our Fabrication Labs bring the excitement of hands-on STEM education through the use of
high tech fabrication equipment such as: 3D printers, 3D modeling software, vinyl cutters,
laser cutters, CNC mills, and an array of other tools that allow anyone to take their ideas
from dreams to reality through the engineering design process.
CISE has led the way through STEAM Weeks where students learn about and engage with 3D
printers, vinyl cutter, and laser cutters. Students develop scaled models of parks, carnival
rides, and life size models of organs just as engineers in the field would. The Fab Lab Project
is leading the way in inspiring the next generation of young engineers, inventors, artists, and
entrepreneurs!

WHY YOUR
Donation
MATTERS
CISE employs college students, pursuing STEM Careers, as a way of carrying out its mission.
We provide our Fab Lab Technicians with access to innovative practices and fabrication
equipment, and an internship that supports their educational ambitions.
Because all children deserve an equitable education, your donation can serve to assist CISE
in continuing to provide access to meaningful and enriching STEM experiences for children.
Research has proven that early exposure increases the likelihood that children, particularly
those from underrepresented communities, will pursue STEM career pathways. With the
changing economy and workforce, this will ensure opportunity for children who otherwise
may not know the exciting world of STEM!
With a small donation of $40, you can help one student experience an unforgettable week
full of hands-on, standards driven, engaging experience through our STEAM Weeks.
WE NEED YOUR
Support
Support us in preparing our students in competing in the job market and global economy.

By 2022, California will have the largest STEM workforce in the nation and largest share of US
STEM jobs. (CA Bureau of Labor Statistics)
California will demand a total of 1.1 million STEM jobs by 2018. Over 93 percent of these jobs
will require postsecondary education and training by 2018. (Georgetown University)
By 2025, California may face a shortage of workers with college training. The projected short-
age of educated workers with some college stems from a mismatch between the share of the
workforce projected to have some college education by 2025 (29%) and the share of jobs that
will require workers with those skills (36%). (Public Policy Institute California)
