Editor's Letter

Hello there ACT Community!

We hope that you are seeing brighter days and not just from the rays of "GOOD TIMES
an enthusiastic sun. One thing pushing those sticky sweaty heat filled BECOME GOOD
moments along is choosing to believe the sun is shining so vividly MEMORIES,
because it too is excited for the city’s opening. BUT BAD TIMES
MAKE GOOD
Our past academic year has certainly seen high and low moments, but LESSONS."
the best moment would have to be its conclusion as it marks the
completion of the trials and tribulations surmounted and met with a -Uncle Iroh
still standing ACT Community. We are here and we are ready to fight
against all odds.

Although it might seem we blow in the breeze, a foundation to
remember is this community. A community that grows stronger by the
day. How will you use those connections? Remember, relationships are
not always about what you can get but also what you can give. During
this time, we saw the development of our social ties, commonalities,
differences, mental health happenings, cultural traditions, self-
awareness, exploration of the new, and understanding of past events as
a method to solidify connection and broaden perspective.

What will we do with these findings? Will they be pushed down as we try
to forget the year where the world stood still? Or will we use them as
weights to build our rescillency?

This past year and a half should be a reference not a playbook for the
future.

Despite treacherous natural causes, flowers continue to sprout, trees
sway on, and nature’s dance moves to the next eight-count. Who is to
say we can’t continue to grow, bloom, and repeat.

Thank you for your time and patience.

Best,

ANATOLIA GARDENS

This installment delves into Anatolia
and ACT's charming campus and its
diverse greenery. Though they might
seem like pretty plants to pass by, they
have a purpose, a history. Stop and take a
look!

From flatlands to lilac grooves, the
campus has seen many forms. Formation
and flora's interrelation require
homogeneity, wherein neither can
flourish without the other's growth.

For flora is like life, and though you
might try to control it, something else
might spring up. When that happens, take
a moment, breathe beside the garden to
absorb the beauty that still stands; and
when you're ready, eradicate that obstacle
and begin your transformation.

ANATOLIA GARDENS

"Creation of gardens depicts throughout
the world an anthropogenic expression of
recognizing the value of nature, trying to
captivate it and incorporating it human
habitats.

A live green garden and park culture is
part of the broader concept of cultural
heritage and as such, it ought to be
protected and enhanced. Lack of garden
culture and education leads to everyday
degradation and loss of parks and gardens
in Greece, a concept relatively unknown
to the public.

The Gardens of Anatolia College are an
excellent example of how nature ought
to teach humans the real realm of life. "

Separated,
But the tips of their roots
Tickle each other when the sun forgets to shine.

Hindering efflorescence,
Overcast brings
Showers of depression with lightning rods of anxiety and impending dangers
Getting precariously close.
Thunderclaps of anger, hurt, and pain
Crescendo, deafen, and debilitate
Tornado winds whirling thoughts, alternate scenarios, and the unknown.

An eruption can bring forth love, care, positivity, and manifestations fulfilled .
Yet, somehow, such strength is halted, contorted.

So they remain a bud, itching to unfold

Really, what is holding them back?

Did the sun forget to shine, or were they turned the other way?
If these disasters were real, how are they still sprouting ?

How are we still standing?

We must grow on,
For the showers end in rejuvenation,
Lightning ignites a fire.
Thunder incites intel,
And that volcano, the core, is nothing to fear.

So bloom

An interview with Orestis Tatsos Global Shaper and Outreach Team Leader

The Global Shapers Community is an initiative of the World Economic Forum. It’s
a network of young people driving dialogue, action, and change around the
world. We believe in a world where young people are central to solution building,
policy-making, and lasting change. The Global Shapers Community is organized
in Hubs. In each city, teams of Shapers self-organize to create projects that
address the needs of their community. Our Hub aims to make Thessaloniki a
cosmopolitan city of choice, where people and companies can thrive.

Our focus is the "Thessaloniki Thrive: Academy" project. It consists of 3 pillars. The first

workplace challenges. The second pillar is our Coaching Programs. They focus on
individuals sharing professional experiences within a group, getting on-the-spot
applicable feedback and helpful tips for moving forward in their professional lives.
The third one is our Educational Seminars. These seminars aim to train students and
provide new skills and information to apply immediately in their professional lives.

You recently did a project for the Davos Lab initiative.
Can you tell us what is it about?

The Davos Lab is an initiative of the World Economic Forum for the celebrations of its

where we discussed with young leaders and industry experts about the Future of
Politics, Net Zero, Inclusive Jobs, and Mental Health. With this project, we wanted to
start the discussion between youth and experienced professionals, so both sides can

GREEK BEACH HANDBALLINTERVIEW WITH

AND ACT

The Greek Beach Handball Teams graced our ACT
campus in the Sand Sports Court, concluding their
training before they departed for competition. From
the beginning of June 2021, the men's, women's and
both boys and girls teams of the Young Age
Competition (YAC), under 17, trained in preparation.

Varna, Bulgaria is hosting EURO 2021 for Beach
Handball , July 13-18, and YAC, July 8-11.

We wish them luck and success as both men and
women are defending their previous titles. In 2019,
the men's team were the Gold Medalists of the
Mediterranean Games in Patra, Greece. As for the
women's Handball team, they were adorned the title
of 2018 World Champions in Kazan, Russia.

Both teams have high standards, created by their
hard work and amazing talent, to meet and we are
sure they will achieve and surpass any expectation
put forth.

In addition, the teams were interviewed by
multiple news outlets, for instance, Atlas 100, Nova
Sport, Brooch, and more. Check out some videos

now have been altered and morphed into methods of
navigating in our world today.

That being said, doesn’t Rome seem like a wonderful
place for one to water their life with new experiences,
people, and culture? ACT students Maria Liouliou and
Alexandra Rasidaki Kyriakidou find themselves taking a
stride on the Roman side this summer through the ACT
Abroad Program with our partner school John Cabot
University, as participants in the Summer exchange
program. Feeding themselves with new experiences,
meeting and befriending new people, while experiencing
a culture both similar and different to their own.

COVID and the ramifications are, for sure, something to be cautious of as both girls
wanted to ensure their safety, “It is definitely possible to protect ourselves while
enjoying everything that Rome can offer” says Maria on her experience thus far.
Both noted that the city has taken the necessary measures, similar to Greece, to
assure everyone’s safety, allowing the city and its dwellers to remain careful and
calm. As for as the city, Alexandra notes its organization mentioning, “The city is
operating really well and I'm very satisfied with my neighborhood and the public
transportation. Overall, Rome is very well organized”, while Maria agrees and
remarked on the hustle and bustle of the city, noting however that it is not
overwhelmingly busy.

Besides the glorious city, they are residing
on John Cabot’s beautiful campus. When
asked about campus residence and student
life Alexandra replied, “The JCU campus is
great. Well organized, clean and all the
measures and protocols of hygiene are
successfully implemented. It is also easy
finding our classes. My studies are going
really well. I love my class and my professor
is very intelligent, kind and helpful. Rome is
amazing as always. One of the most beautiful
cities in the world. The people are very open,
friendly, sometimes flirty and of course
crazy!”. Maria relates her experience thus far
to her time at ACT noting that, “The people
from the university have been very open
and helpful so far. Actually, our two
universities follow almost the same growth
mindset which allows us to feel like home.
The same stands for the classes too. Until
now everything is going smoothly and I am
confident that this semester is going to be a
very enjoyable experience to remember!”.

Along with the study abroad experience, comes multifaceted personal advancement that includes
dimensions of development for one's skills, knowledge, character, and even cultural intelligence.
Alexandra is excited about the depth of such possibilities, “I have already found, but also expect more,
opportunities to grow as a global citizen. Studying but also living in an environment with people from all
over the world and having to switch from Greek to Italian and from Italian to English, when it's
necessary, really gives you the sense of being a citizen of the world. I can't wait for some scheduled
cultural activities that will bring us together”. Maria sees the potential for personal growth, “Rome and
our university offer a real multicultural experience which offers chances to become a global citizen. In
such a short time we have managed to meet people from many different countries and to exchange ideas
and opinions that make us richer!”

The pair still have some time until the program’s end to live their best Roman dreams! Both radiate
positivity toward their experience and have utilized their liberal arts education to analyze the world they
live in as being eclectic and connected rather than stagnant clusters. Extending beyond the realm of
comfortability allowed them to achieve personal growth and evolve their viewpoint. Will you take the
same step?
