Wow, what a whirlwind we find ourselves in! Introduction

We, at Michael Carr Designs are so thankful for you, our partners and customers. We are so appreciative. We, in the garden
business, are so blessed to be in a market that is appreciated and in demand in these unique times.

I have twisted the old adage “Feast or Famine” into my own description of today’s garden environment “Feast AND Famine”. The
demand is super incredible to go along with worldwide shipping and supply issues creating shortages and delays. In my more
than 20 years in this business, there has never been such turmoil in the shipping channels and the freight experts are predicting
that the situation will continue into this year. Rather than complain about it, we are working on hopeful solutions to better meet
your needs. I do take some pride in creating such a wide range of offering in styles, colors, finishes, and sizes to offer to you for
your business. This year is no different.

Like every season, this year’s catalog is filled with NEW selections. This year’s catalog includes almost 500 outdoor pottery pallet
collections to go along with our indoor line, Old-World Statuary Line and Resin Figurines. In order to combat issues that arose
this past season with shipping goods, I have targeted our best sellers and Best of the Best collections and pre-ordered massive
amounts of these products and have already begun production for next season.

They will be marked on each page of the categories with Silver “Top Sellers” and Gold “Best of the Best” emblems.
These indicate orders already placed and in production. It is my plan that these will help in getting products early or on schedule.
With that being said, you are still welcome to order anything in the catalog through the end of August. The plan, as always, is to
ship all of this on time together. But given the current environment the collections not already pre-ordered may or may not be
shipped at the same time, depending on your desired receiving date and the situation with world shipping.

It would be my suggestion to please order early to get production started on your requests.

I haven’t highly publicized this, but we have begun building brand awareness to our and your retail customers. Quite frankly,
until recently, we tried to stay away from this area as it was difficult to handle so many requests from retail customers contacting
and asking questions about the brand and where to find it. It was overwhelming and we weren’t set up to handle it. But we now
have pivoted with a new dealer locator on our web site and mechanisms in place to push these requests straight to local garden
centers. With that in place, we have begun doing some very exciting things. Michael Carr Designs products were featured on
HGTV’s Rock the Block, including the winning outdoor category with Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent with Michael Carr Designs
pieces prominently displayed in the whole show. I co-hosted two ½ hour nationally broadcast garden shows on over 400 PBS
stations this past year. This show is called GardenSmart. In its 20th season, it featured how garden pots are made and how to
use them in the home and landscape. Viewed by almost 2 million people in each premier, it was a wonderful way to teach and
educate people on container gardening and HOPEFULLY, Michael Carr Designs. We are expanding our focus on social media and
already have several major projects and collaborations set up this season that will continue to build the brand in our market. We
are very excited about what is coming soon!

Introduction

Talented Workmanship & Unique Glazes

One of the things that makes our line of garden pottery special is that each piece is hand-made. Each piece
starts with a talented craftsman taking clay and pushing it into a mold by hand. After an initial drying, they
remove it with their hands and tirelessly work to smooth each seam and each design element out to give it the
sleek shape that you see in each finished product. It is dried once again and liquid glazes are applied to the pots
by hand. The pots are then moved to the kiln where it is set up to fire.

Inside the rustic old world wood burning kilns, heat will circulate throughout the pieces inside. The heat inside
varies slightly from spot to spot. The heat combined with the unique glazes are what creates the colors and
runs of the glazes. These slight variations in temperature are what give each piece its own unique finish. This is
how customers get that one of a kind look with each piece.

We are also using more and more cutting edge kiln technologies. We do this in order to achieve more
consistency in colors and can actually create new colors now achievable with varying temperatures in wood
burning kilns. Using the best scenarios in each type of kiln we can achieve the best quality and styling.

Introduction CARING FOR YOUR POTTERY

Freeze & Frost Resistant

Select pieces within our collection are designed to be freeze and frost resistant. Look for the icon denoting planters that can
tolerate colder temperatures. But I feel there needs to be a better explanation as to what terms such as frost resistant or freeze
resistant mean. You see these terms on almost all outdoor pots from almost all vendors. But in order to better educate your
customers, I want to go into more depth with this. Our pots are some of the best in the world at holding up in harsh climates.
However, each category has different ranges. The first thing to note is that “frost” or “freeze” is technically 32 degrees. And
practically, every outdoor pot can withstand that. So, basically, any vendor could apply these terms to their outdoor planters.
The first thing to note is that pots that are frost or freeze resistant are referring to the pot itself. Not the soil or plant or anything
inside the pot. When someone plants up a pot with soil and moisture is in the soil, you then have the potential of a lot of
expansion going on inside the pot in freezing temperatures. When water expands it is a very powerful force. With nowhere
to go, this expansion could create enough pressure to cause the best pieces in the world to crack. I always use the example of
rocks high on mountains. They crack when water gets in cracks and crevices and freezes and thaws over time. So, it’s imperative
to educate customers on ways to protect a planted pot that will be exposed to extreme temperature. Some suggestions would
be to lift it up off the ground (pot feet, etc.) to allow moisture to drain from the pot over the winter, cover the pots to keep
moisture from building up in winter, put materials in the soil that might absorb the expansion pressure, such as empty water
bottles, bubble wrap, etc.
Freezing damage to the pots themselves, which are not planted, is normally due to moisture getting inside the pores of the
material that the product is made from. The smaller the pores the less likely any moisture can accumulate inside the material
that makes the pot itself. The hotter and longer a planter has been fired, the smaller the pores of the piece are. For example,
I started out in this business making Mexican clay pots. At that time, the Mexican clay was cooked at 900 degrees for 8 hours.
In contrast, our Vietnamese Clay is fired as high as 2300 degrees for several days! I consider our Vietnamese the best cooked
planters in the world at holding up in extreme weather.
Terracotta can withstand 32 degrees, however, if it goes much lower and the pieces are on the ground where they will begin
to absorb moisture through the bottom, they are much more susceptible to flaking and peeling on the exterior due to the
moisture now inside the pores of the piece expanding and contracting.
Cement pots are not fired, so in order to make these pieces more frost resistant, other methods are used to close up the pores
and reduce moisture soaking into the pieces. One is to use the best cement materials. Another is to use methods to shake and
stir the pieces to that there are not pockets in the material that allow moisture to get in.
With terracotta and cement, I
recommend getting these pieces
off the ground to not allow them
to sit in moisture over time. I
personally use pot feet but I’m
sure there are other methods as
well.
Then we have our Vietnamese
natural clay and our special
applied glazes. As stated before,
they are cooked at extremely
high temperatures for extended
periods of time, making them, in
my opinion, the best in the world
at holding up in harsh weather.
All pieces are great and hopefully,
will be enjoyed for many years,
but I believe it’s important to
educate your customers on how
to care for each.

Our Volcanic Collection combines the best of the Vietnamese clays with a combination of glazes
and our special hand-added recipe of our volcanic finish. Depending how we apply the finish
and how we sand it down, it has the appearance of a glazed piece with a top edge partially lava
encrusted or a piece completely lava encrusted with the glaze finish coming through to give
very rich colors. This is a very popular category and has fantastic sell-throughs.

The whole collection consists of winners. We have added 4 new colors to our super popular
VOB014 series this year. These are Volcanic on Matte Honey, Volcanic on Black, Volcanic on Falling
Blue and Volcanic on Red.

Glazed planters continue to remain one of the hottest categories in the planter business. Our Vietnamese glazes
have the finest finishes in the market! We carefully select the best of the best when they are taken out of the
traditional wood fired kilns, as well as new state-of-the-art super-sized gas kilns. They are fired for up to eight days at
temperatures reaching up to 2300 degrees. This firing process makes our pieces some of the most weather resistant
planters in the world. The pieces that don’t meet our strict criteria find their way to other sources which may bring to
them to market as number one quality pieces. You want the best, so we set our standards high! Our glaze recipes are
kept locked up and once you see our pieces, you will understand why. We keep them special for you.

Our Vietnamese glazes are 100% hand-made and applied. The temperatures inside the kilns will vary from spot to
spot. This variation in the temperature is what gives each piece its own unique color and finish. This uniqueness is
what makes the demand for these pieces so great. Each piece is its own work of art. No two are the same.
