FOREWORD DR HUSNITA HABSAH YON DIRECTOR CENTRE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF LANGUAGE COMPETENCE Assalamualaikum w.b.t and greetings, I extend my warmest congratulations to the English Language Division for their commendable efforts in orchestrating the Virtual LAX Day event. Year after year, LAX Day stands as a beacon, offering students a valuable platform to showcase their accomplishments and share their endeavours with the vibrant UPM community. Originating in 2013 alongside the inception of the English Language Experience (ELEx) Package, LAX has evolved into an integral component of our academic landscape. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, LAX Day perseveres through its transition to an online platform, steadfast in its commitment to foster student engagement and recognition. At its core, LAX plays a pivotal role in nurturing students' confidence in communicating effectively in English. This initiative endeavours to equip our students with the essential skills that distinguish them in today's fiercely competitive job market. Through meticulously curated activities tailored outside the confines of traditional classrooms, LAX prioritises student-centric approaches that emphasise soft skills and nurture creativity. The activities curated for LAX Day serve as a catalyst for enhancing students' English communication abilities, not only amplifying their marketability but also fortifying their selfassurance. We fervently hope that our students embrace the opportunities presented on LAX Day as a gateway to a continuous journey of English language learning. Engaging in imaginative, project-based learning experiences during this event is a stepping-stone toward fostering a lifelong commitment to language acquisition, founded upon enjoyment and practical experience. MUHAMMAD SYAFIQ BIN MAZLAN DIRECTOR LAX DAY 2023 DIRECTOR Assalamualaikum w.b.t and greetings, As we commemorate our sixth annual LAX Day, organised by the English Language Proficiency Division within the Centre for the Advancement and Language Competence (CALC) at Universiti Putra Malaysia, it's with great enthusiasm that we embrace the changes of the times by presenting this year's event virtually. The shift to a virtual platform for LAX Day 2023 enables us to transcend geographical boundaries, fostering wider engagement, especially for our esteemed students. LAX Day 2023 offers a dynamic platform for students worldwide to immerse themselves in a myriad of captivating activities, including the LAX Trivia, LAX Day Competition, LAX Talk, and LAX Exhibition. The distinguished panellists comprising students and instructors promise insightful discussions during the LAX Talk forum sessions. Moreover, our specially curated BlogSpot hosts a virtual gallery, showcasing the best works and videos created by our talented students. Furthermore, students actively participate in pre-LAX Day activities, engaging in the voting process to recognise the finest entries in the LAX Day Competition. This creatively crafted virtual iteration of LAX Day, orchestrated by the current organising committee, will be broadcasted live via our official CALC Facebook page. As the Program Director of LAX Day 2023, I extend my deepest appreciation to the entire organising committee for their unwavering dedication and relentless efforts in ensuring the success of this event. OBJECTIVE LAX was first introduced when the English Language Experience Package (ELEx) was implemented in 2013. LAX plays an important role in enhancing students’ communication skills in English. The objective of LAX is to increase students’ level of confidence to interact in English in a fun, flexible and non-stressful environment. As a student-centred activity, LAX provides the opportunity to utilise English outside class hours. Moreover, students have the ability to develop their personality, soft skills as well as creativity through LAX activities. LAX Day is a platform for students to showcase their work to the UPM community as well as to promote the LAX component and Putra ELEx package which are offered by CALC. In essence, LAX Day celebrates students involvement and commitment in their journey to be highly proficient users of the English language. 3

N A Y O U N G J O O Na Young Joo, currently pursuing Bachelor of Business with Honours. His aspirations extend beyond excelling in finance, recognizing that effective communication is a crucial skill for success in the field of business. He has actively engaged in several events as an emcee and is eager to continue this involvement in the future. H A R O L Y N S A B A S T I A N S A N T H I Y A G U Harolyn Sabastian Santhiyagu, currently in the final year pursuing a Bachelor of Communication with Honours, majoring in Broadcasting. She possesses proficiency in four languages: English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, and Tagalog. Alongside academic pursuits, she is dedicated to her part-time role as a DJ Student at PutraFM. Harolyn is not only academically inclined but also showcases her talents in the realm of dance, engaging in various dance forms during her leisure time. Notably, she achieved the distinction of being the 1st Runner Up in Bollynaach 3.0 at UPM, reflecting her commitment and skill in this art. With prior experience as an Examination Officer at the Malaysian Examinations Council and current active involvement in UPM's Language and Testing Unit, Muhammad Azwan brings a wealth of expertise in language assessment and competence.

RANMEET KAUR LAX TALK PANELISTS PANELISTS TEACHERS 10 Ms Ranmeet Kaur received her Bachelor of Education in Teaching English as A Second Language (TESL) from Universiti Selangor and her Master of Education in English as A Second Language from Universiti Malaya. She has been teaching at UPM since 2011 and has been actively involved in coordinating as well as developing writing courses and starting school and finishing school training programmes. In addition to that, she was a writer for the National Graduate Employability Blueprint published by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia. Presently, she is the Head of the Language Activity Unit in CALC and is involved in coordinating the administration of LAX activities and English language enhancement competitions.
