APPRECIATION TO
THE LATE UNCLE
BEN CHEAH

Throughout the years, we, the Banner Team, often
travel back in time to reminisce the one who brought

us all together, the one and only,
Uncle Ben Cheah.

In the beginning, he gathered us all to be part of the
Worship Team of Wesley Kids Ministry. We often
have our usual Saturday practice for our praise
worship and action dance.

The Banner Team started off with only 3 members.
Uncle Ben, being the persuasive person that he was,
persuaded the members of the Worship Team to join
the Banner Team. The merging of the Worship Team
into the Banner Team was when our present Banner

Team was joined by many more members.

Of course, we would never forget his iconic figure,
with a bright smile on, holding a camera. He would
always capture the moments and believe me when I

say this, we were all glad he did so.

Indeed, we were all deeply saddened by his passing.
However, we would always keep his memories intact

and we will continue to move forward so that his
effort did not go in vain and we could do him proud.

Of course, banner worshipping at that time

a day of praise

A Day of Praise 2018 (ADOP 2018) was held from the
29th to the 30th of June at Penang First Assembly of
God. It is an event where followers of Christ from all
around Malaysia gather to do praise and worship
for 24 hours non-stop. Pahang's representative team
was made up of musicians and singers from Wesley
Methodist Church Kuantan, Tamil Methodist Church
Kuantan & Shalom Fellowship Kuantan. We, as the
Banner Team, were able to participate in assisting
the worship team as dancers.

State representatives were each given a 2-hour slot.
With that information, we had about 2 months to do
preparations and choreography. With many songs,
we were able to include different types of banners
used.

On the day of the event, we met at the hall entrance.
At first glance, the hall was huge in size, minimalist
interior design, a stage stretched across the hall
with many rows of chairs for spectators and
carpeted floors. As the event started, the lights
dimmed and which allowed the LED lights that
stretched across both sides of the hall to lit up with
colours suitable according to the atmosphere during
worship was what caught my eyes.

Praise and worship can be expressed in many

different forms. Dancers with unique

choreographies and dressed in clothes that

represented them. Art materials were provided for

anyone who wanted to express themselves through

colours and illustrations. It was a one of a kind

experience to see people from different states and

churches come together as one to praise the Lord.

A DAY OF
PRAISE

Written by Felicia Kong

ADOP 2019, a day everyone was looking forward
to. Weeks of preparation, multiple worship
practices and of course doing online research
about the well-known cultural city, Malacca.
The day finally has arrived, the 21st June of 2019.
The 24-hour event was held from 8.30pm to
8.30pm on June 22nd at Calvary Life Assembly,
Melaka. We reached Malacca a few hours earlier to
stroll around and discover the wonderful sights
which await us. The prominent A' Famosa Fort, the
Jonker Street filled with scrumptious food and
many more.
At 7:30pm, we all gathered around preparing for
the official opening ceremony. The view was
spectacular as the congregation got to watch us all
march while waving our multicoloured banners.
We were surrounded by people from different
backgrounds who originate from different states.
We got to see their unique costumes like the very
detailed sewing on a kebaya. Not only that, there
were various designed banners of different sizes, be
it gigantic or just a normal-sized one. But, the most
eye-opening part was that we got the chance to
socialise with others despite our different cultures
and backgrounds. It was amazing to see how
synchronised everyone was and how everyone
unite together as one to make the event successful.
It was definitely a huge honour to be part of
something so big and meaningful.

GOD IS ON
THE MOVE

WRITTEN BY JOCELYN SOON

1st May of 2017. We had our
outdoor gathering as well as a
video shooting of " God is on the
Move" at Teluk Cempedak.

We gathered at the beach bright
and early in the morning and had
our morning worship session. We
danced and sang together in the
beautiful sunrise. It was so
picturesque to see the colorful
banners raised up high in the
reddish sky which was slowly
turning blue.

The video shooting took place at
TC beach 2. We worked together
to achieve the same goal which is
to create a successful music video.
Besides that, we also had a picnic
by the beach and played a bunch
of fun games, especially water
games.

It was definitely a once-in-a-
lifetime experience as we have all
never been a part of a music video
before. Through the success of the
creation of this music video, it has
proved that teamwork indeed is
needed in all projects. Hopefully,
there are more to come in the
future.

GLOBAL WORSHIP
DAY (GWD 2018)

GWD was held at Wesley Methodist Church, Kuantan
in 2018. There were a lot of churches that took part in
the 8 hours of worship. We, as the Banner Team, has
committed with the worship team for the WMC slot.
Even though we were prepared to dance only for the
WMC slot, we entered the stage spontaneously and
dance for other churches too to encourage the
worship leaders and to make the congregation have a
deeper connection with God. Moreover, we
performed a few performances to fill in the empty
stage while the worship leaders were setting up for
their slot. Sometimes when we were tired, we took a
rest by joining the kids colouring a few colouring
pages. We really enjoyed ourselves worshipping God
with other churches. In this case, banner dancing also
was exposed to many people and we know that it will
prove to them that worship leading is not the only
way to worship God. It was an exhausting day but we
really enjoyed ourselves and it was a chance to build
a bond among the Banner Team members.

GLOBAL
WORSHIP DAY
(GWD 2019)

Written by Cindy Ong

Global Worship Day, Pahang 2019, was held on
26 October 2019 @ Wesley Methodist Church,
Kuantan Pahang. There were 7 churches in
Kuantan & 1 Orang Asli group from Raub
involved in this event.

We started with the shofar blowing for the call
to worship, leading all the worshipper’s hearts
to get together in one accord. Then followed by
a group of little girls dancing at the opening
ceremony.

Our church team with 5 musicians, 2 (English)
lead singers, 10 backup singers together with
Myanmar group who joined us as a team to
worship for 1 hour & 30 minutes in GWD
Pahang 2019.

Our team has had several practices since
September 2019, together with our Banner
Team. As a committee member, I was very
encouraged that all the church members &
friends I approached willingly commit to this
event despite their busy schedules. And we are
grateful that God blessed us with 2 Indonesian
students to join our team as pianists & backup
singers. Besides, the Myanmar group has
added a different culture to our team as they
lead the worship in Burmese for 20 minutes.

With different denominations & languages to
come together to praise and worship our King
of Kings and Lord of Lords with joyful sounds
and banner rising high, we have together in
Christ made another remarkable event in
Kuantan for 2019.

Praise &
Worship Day
2018

There are many ways to spend the new years, from going
out with your friends and family or even spending time
alone watching your comfort movie. My new years in 2018
was other than usual because the church had organized a
new year's worship and prayer night, something I never
experienced in my 16 years. With lots of rehearsals and
practice, the night finally came where we all gathered to
worship God as a community. I am extroverted when in
conversations; however, I was pretty shy in singing,
especially in front of people.

The church members gave me an opportunity to worship
God with my voice and talent. At first, I hesitated, but I told
myself to lay all my worries and fears in God's hands and
agreed on doing it. I performed a favorite song of mine
titled "O Come to The Altar" by Elevation Worship. Though
imperfect, I was honored to worship and praise God with
my skills. If I could describe the night with two words, it
would be spiritual and unforgettable, from the different
banner dances performed by the banner team to the
fantastic vocals sung by the worship team. All in all, it was
a tremendous experience for me to spend this time with the
church community and to develop my connection with God.

I want to extend my appreciation to Jocelyn, Joanne, Uncle
Eric, Aunty Vivian, Aunty Loo Ee, and everyone from the
worship and banner team for making this amazing event
possible.

BANNER OUTREACH

presbyterian church, kemaman. (2016 & 2018)
written by prasanna krishnan

This event was the first banner worship that we had danced in another church. We
were invited to Presbyterian Church in Kemaman. We had a wonderful day together
with our members. We ate together and took pictures together. All of us were
welcomed with open arms upon reaching the Kemaman church. Context, their church
was smaller than our church. The stage was quite small, we found it quite hard to
dance there especially with the bigger-sized banners. We gave our best and we're
glad that they were happy with the banner worship on that day. We got to enjoy the
scrumptious food they prepared for us for dinner before heading back to Kuantan.
In 2018, we were invited once again and now we have already gotten used to the small
stage. All of them were really nice to us on that day and took care of us. This event
taught us to get used to different situations. We will be really elated if they invite us
once again for the banner worship so that we can give our best once again and banner
dance will be exposed to more people and places.
