Feature Advisory Council Member Early Childhood Family Education

Laurie Lawson

Laurie and Matt Lawson joined ECFE when their
daughter, Mariana was a few months old. She
is now 3.5 and has a baby brother, Jack who
is 1.5. We’ve participated in infant classes as
well as the 2/3’s class and others such as Messy
Masterpieces. ECFE has been a very beneficial
experience for both us as parents and for the kids.

One of the most impactful parts of ECFE for us
has been the parenting portion of class. As new
parents when our daughter came around we had
a lot of questions and still do as we navigate the
preschool years with her.

These classes have been great for being able
to talk with educators and other parents about
strategies for things such as sleep, sibling rivalry
and picky eating.

The classes have also been great for setting up our children for success when they go off to preschool
and beyond. As kids who experienced much (or all) of their lives in a pandemic with a Mom who works
from home our kids have not had experience with daycares or other structured settings away from home
besides ECFE. These classes have been helpful in teaching them to listen to others, take turns and
interact more with peers.

I (Mom) joined the Advisory Council to be involved with the programs I have come to appreciate so much.
I like having a voice in the school and community as well as knowing what is going on with the program. I
appreciate all the programs like Open Gym and Books and Beyond at the library that the Advisory Council
is a part of and am glad to be able to help make those a success. I highly recommend getting involved
and joining our group- we are always looking for new ideas and new parents to join!

Lakeville Area ECFE Advisory Council

The ECFE Advisory Council plays an essential role in our program and community. They meet monthly and lend
voices and ears to all things that impact early learning as well as foster community connections. If you are interested
in being a member of the Parent Advisory Council and learning how you can be involved in new and exciting
developments within the Lakeville Area School District and ECFE, email [email protected]
or send us a message on our Advisory Council Facebook page, “Lakeville Area ECFE Advisory Council,” or ask
your classroom teacher how to join. We would love to have YOU be a voice for our program. Check out our
website for more information: http://bit.ly/ECFE-AC
