Pizza has been an absolute blast to train - she learns everything quickly and has a great work
ethic! She finished her show championship before her 1st birthday (despite losing most of that
year to the COVID shutdown), earned her grand championship a month later. She whizzed
through Junior Hunter, finished Senior Hunter in 2 months, and then finished her Master Hunter
in just 3 weekends. She is so much fun to run in the field, because she has great drive and
speed, but also great self-control (and the most beautiful natural honor!). She ended up on the
Top 5 Derby list in the WCA field stats last year, and also earned a Dual Futurity award for
placing at both the show and field futurities. She also won Best of Breed at the NOHS finals at
only 16 months of age. Pizza is 100% owner-trained and owner-handled, with the guidance of
some very awesome field and agility coaches!
Pizza is currently working towards her agility MACH, and will also continue to test in the field
to work towards her Master Hunter Advanced title, along with doing a few select walking field
trials. She will hopefully be bred in the next few years to continue her legacy of multi-talented,
beautiful Weimaraners!

Noodle is my ride-or-die girl. She wakes up in the morning ready to train, to work, to compete,
whatever I have scheduled! She is intense while working, and I have never seen a dog with
such a strong work ethic as Noodle. She is one pass away from her Master Hunter Advanced
title, about halfway to her Agility MACH, and has qualified for the 2023 AKC Rally National
Championships. She is the dog that made me fall in love with fieldwork!

We were delighted when Lenka received the last leg of her MH. She loves to hunt birds her
way.
We want to thank Todd Yamamoto, Anabel Schafnit, and her favorite “Daddy,” Jim, for her
comeback training.
She has produced two lovely litters that have done well both in the field and in the show ring.
Her excitement and enthusiasm for a run in the field contrast with her calm and easy going
personality.

Pizza has been an absolute joy to train and compete with. She has spoiled me for all other
dogs, after quickly finishing her Senior Hunter and Master Hunter titles within a few months
and making it seem easy! She has a beautiful natural honor, and stylish point. She finished her
derby career on the top 5 WCA list, and we hope to pursue more field events with her along
with working towards more agility titles. She will continue to make select appearances in the
show ring in between all of the other events that she competes in.

Dolphin is the result of two great friends collaborating on breeding, and he has exceeded
anything we could have ever hoped for! Dolphin won Best Dog at the 2021 Central Futurity,
and came back and won Best Dog at the 2022 Central Maturity in conjunction with the
National Specialty. He placed 2nd in the 2021 Eastern Field Futurity, and is continuing his
performance career training for Master Hunter and working on his Agility MACH. More than
just a handsome face, he has the kindest heart of any dog I have ever known, and coupled with
his great trainability and athleticism means he has a bright future ahead of him!

Sierra was the purple collar girl out of our Louis L’Amour themed litter. She was a spunky
puppy who loved sticks and who has matured into a proven bird dog with an intense desire
for hunting birds. She loves to retrieve and does everything with great enthusiasm. Her good
looks allowed her to earn her bench championship title in style by winning Best of Breed from
classes over Nationally-ranked champions. Sierra is currently at Summer Camp learning to be a
steady bird dog and is expected to compete in gun dog stakes in the 2023 season. We are proud
of her and can't wait to see what she accomplishes next!

WCA Breeder Referral
Expecting Puppies?
by Billie Thompson
A new litter of puppies fills us with excitement, hopes and dreams. It’s a perfect time to
take advantage of your WCA Breeder Referral service.
A few things you might like to know about this service.
• I do not screen inquiries. Instead, that is up to each individual breeder. Breeders
have individual preferences for selecting potential homes for their puppies.
• The greater number of inquiries comes from people wanting a well-bred puppy and
some have also done a little research on the breed.
• The majority of inquiries are from people that do not want to travel far for a pup,
though I encourage them to consider greater distances.
• The majority of inquiries indicate they want to obtain a puppy from a
reputable breeder.
• If no one has listed a litter in an area preferred by an inquiry, I give out contacts for
any local clubs nearby as well.
This service is available to all WCA members. Futurity litters are automatically placed on
the list. If your litter is not nominated, simply email your information to me to be placed
on the list.
Everyone is welcome to notify me as early as pregnancy is confirmed!
Your information should include - sire and dam, approximate due date, your city, state,
email and phone number.
Please send this information to [email protected].
Thank you, and best of luck with your litters!

Funded Study: Treatment of Canine DCM using Rapamycin
TriviumVet (Veterinary Research and Development company)
Study Title: Rapamycin TrEatment in Preclinical CAnine DIlated
CaRdiomyopathy (The REPAIR Study)
Purpose of Study:
Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is the second most common acquired cardiac
disease in dogs. The preclinical phase of DCM, often referred to as occult DCM
(ODCM), can last for ~2-3 years. Current optimal management of dogs with
ODCM includes pimobendan and/or antiarrhythmic medication. Once dogs with
ODCM progress to the clinical phase of the disease, dogs often experience
congestive heart failure and have limited (<1 year) lifespans with diminished
quality of life.
This study aims to investigate if a new treatment, rapamycin, can reduce heart
size and improve function during the occult/preclinical stage of dilated
cardiomyopathy (ODCM) in dogs already receiving pimobendan. Dogs that pass
the echocardiographic and full screening tests are eligible to enroll in this 6-
month study.
Inclusion Criteria for Screening:
• Dogs at least three years of age
• Dogs with a prior diagnosis of occult dilated cardiomyopathy (ODCM) and
currently treated with pimobendan
Dogs will undergo a number of screening tests to confirm their eligibility for
enrollment in the study.
Exclusion Criteria:
Dogs will NOT be eligible for enrollment if:
• They have been diagnosed with other cardiac diseases (congenital or
acquired).
• They have/had signs of congestive heart failure.
• They have fainted in the last 3 months.
• They have undergone general anesthesia in the last 30 days.
• They have atrial fibrillation.
• They are receiving diuretics.
Eligibility Diagnostics:
All enrolled dogs will have diagnostic tests required by the study including blood
work (complete blood count, biochemistry panel), ECG/Holter, and an
echocardiogram (a cardiac ultrasound) conducted at no cost to the owner. In
addition, the study will provide pimobendan at no cost to the owner during the
course of the study. A Holter monitor deposit fee is charged and refunded when
the Holter is returned.
Owner Commitments:
• Owners must be able to make a trip to University of Illinois Veterinary
Teaching Hospital to participate in the study at the time of screening for
enrollment, and again at two, fouPra,gaen2d0 six months after enrollment.
• Owners must be able to answer questions regarding their dog’s health at

Finn has been such a fun and amazing
dog. True to the Weimaraner versatility,
Finn is willing to do whatever I want, from
dock diving, lure coursing, FastCat, and
fieldwork to tough-mudder type agility
obstacles (climbing ladders, cargo nets,
rope crossing). The more things that we
do together, the stronger our partnership
becomes.
No "can't" exists in this dog; no matter what we do, he gives it 110%. He earned his
dock senior title with his first five competition jumps, then went right on to dock
master, earning that title very quickly as well.
We did a lure coursing event earning two qualifying runs towards his coursing ability
title. We then drove to the Timucuan Weimaraner Club of Florida's Hunting Dog Stake
(Field/Bird work), where he earned 1st place all in one day. He earned almost all of
these titles before he was two years old.

How to Compete in Dock Diving
Step-By-Step
By Miranda Carney
Ready for a splash? Diving Dogs is the perfect sport for water-loving
canines and is fun, exciting, and easy-to-do.
There Are A Few Simple Rules: Watching Diving Dogs for the first time
is fun and exciting — but what are all the

are eligible to compete in Diving Dogs
(other than females in season.) Titles
earned through North America Diving
Dogs (NADD) will be recognized by The
American Kennel Club. To apply, simply
complete the Title Application.
Diving Dogs Is A Sport With Two
Different Disciplines:
• Distance Jumping: dogs compete for
the farthest jump
• Air Retrieve: dogs compete to knock a
bumper of an apparatus at the farthest
distance
Page 34
What Makes Up a Dock Diving
Team?
Unlike Flyball, which is a team sport where
four dogs compete on one team, Diving
Dog teams are comprised of only one dog
and one handler. Some teams chose to have
one additional handler to help restrain the
dog. A handler may use one or two toys to
help encourage the dog to jump into the
water.
How Big Is The Pool And Dock In
Diving Dogs?
While swimming in your pool or lake at home is great practice, dogs can’t dive into just
any pool when it comes to competition. A diving dock must be at least 40 feet long and
7.5 feet wide. The pool must be at least 41 feet long and 21 feet wide.

How to

Jumping
In distance jump-
ing, a dog is simply
scored on how far he
or she jumps into the
water. The distance
is measured from the
end of the dock to the
base of the dog’s tail
when it breaks water.
How to Compete
in Air Retrieve
In air retrieve, dogs
must jump for a
bumper, which hangs
in the middle of the
dock’s width, two
feet above the dock.
The goal is for the
dog to either grab or
completely remove
the bumper form the
apparatus. Each dog
will get two attempts
at knocking down
the bumper at each
distance. The dog
to knock down the
bumper at the farthest
distance wins.
