Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to the show committee for a successful event. The BOD meeting minutes from the ABC Annual Meeting in November 2025 have been uploaded to the ABC website. For those of you who weren’t aware, the ABC Board of Directors meeting minutes are published on the ABC website. Go to the “Inside ABC” tab on the home page, then go to “ABC News” page. I hope our hunters out there had a successful and productive season, having game birds grace your tables for the evening meal. Don’t forget to share a bit with the dog that helped you with the harvest. Please note there have been changes to our Field Trial Dates Coordinators. Thank you Burton Wice for serving as Central Dates Coordinator and Steve Ralph for serving as the National Dates Coordinator, these men have given much of their time over the years. We welcome Bobbie Sigmund as the National Field Trial Dates Coordinator, and Ed Janulis as the new Central Dates Coordinator. Currently serving as regional coordinators are Bruce Conover (East Coast), Jack Alexander (East Central), Jim Crawford (Midwest), and Steve Cosgriff (West Coast). Thank you all for your time volunteering in these positions. Now is not too soon to be thinking about open Board and Director positions for 2027. This is your club, and if you are interested in serving the membership this is a great opportunity. The Director positions rotate – there are 3 Directors per Region, Directors serve for 3 year terms, so every year there is a vote for a new Director for each of the 5 Regions. Darlene Dow is the Nomination Chair this year for Directors and the Executive Officer positions for terms up at the end of the year. The Officer positions voted on at the Annual Meeting in November, by the Board of Directors, are 1st Vice President (All Age National), 3rd Vice President (National Specialty Show), 4th Vice President (Gun Dog Nationals), and Elected Secretary. Descriptions of these positions are in the ABC Policy Book, on the ABC website. Feel free to contact Darlene Dow if you are interested in any of these positions. HEALTH & GENETICS COMMITTEECanine SchistosomiasisWhat is Schistosomiasis? It is a medical condition caused by the liver fluke, Heterobilharzia americana. A wide range of mammals can be infected, but it is frequently found in racoons and dogs. Similar flukes (schistosomes) cause Swimmer’s Itch in people but don’t cause any systemic infection- only a localized inflammatory skin reaction.WHY SHOULD WE BE CONCERNED?• The fluke and its snail host have been emerging in the lower Colorado River Basin. Historically, it had been considered to be confined to the Gulf Coast and Southern Atlantic states.• Many dogs will be asymptomatic, but some will progress to severe illness.• H. americana is not detected by routine fecal screenings.• No preventatives or vaccines exist to reliably protect dogs from contracting the parasite in freshwater environments.• There is very limited awareness of H. americana amongst dog owners and veterinarians.LIFE CYCLE: The ability of this fluke to establish itself in an area depends on the presence of an intermediate snail host. Upon excretion in the feces of an infected animal, fluke eggs hatch and release free swimming miracidia into the water. The miracidia penetrate the intermediate snail host, form a sporocyst and carry out asexual development into infectious cercariae. These are then released from the snail into the water. (Egg-miracidiumFree swimming larval stages in the complex life cycles of flukes:Miracidiahatched from egg, infect snails as 1st intermediate hostCercariaemerges from snail to infect 2nd host (definitive)The American Brittany ▬ 6 ▬ February 2026

-sporocyst-cercariae). Dogs are at risk of being infected when they wade or swim in cercariae-infected fresh water. The cercariae penetrate the dog’s intact skin and travel and reproduce in the visceral organs or migrate into the intestines where the eggs are excreted in the feces.SYMPTOMS: Infected dogs can remain asymptomatic or demonstrate a range of clinical signs and abnormalities. The H. americana eggs cause a marked granulomatous inflammation in the organs in which they are deposited- primarily the intestines, liver and pancreas. Schistosomiasis should be considered in dogs with signs of persistent intestinal and liver disease. Clinical signs include weight loss, poor appetite, diarrhea, lethargy, vomiting, blood in feces, coughing, fever or increases in thirst and urination in dogs with a history of exposure to water that could be potentially infected with flukes.Blood work can disclose low red blood cell count, low albumin, liver enzyme elevation, low platelets, and poorly concentrated urine among other abnormalities.Radiographs can show areas of mineralization in the small intestine which can be highly suggestive of H. americana. Diagnosis is by fecal saline sedimentation, a commercially available PCR assay and biopsy samples.Treatment: Praziquantel (Droncit-Elanco) combined with fenbendazole (Panacur-Merck) is used to treat H. americana.SEVERAL CAVEATS CAN ACCOMPANY TREATMENT:• Treatment of large dogs will be expensive due to the necessary dose of praziquantel. Compounded praziquantel can be used from a compounding pharmacy for individualized dosing. • Symptomatic and supportive (antinausea drugs) care is advised to help the dog better tolerate drug therapy and promote a smoother recovery from infection.• Treatment may require repeating due to the resistance of the juvenile schistosomes to the first round of treatment.• Retesting shouldn’t be done until 4 weeks post treatment – time for the parasites to clear. Texas A&M has a specific research project on canine schistosomiasis called the Drake Project. Information can be found on the Texas A&M website or at [email protected]. There is also a Facebook Group. The PCR assay is available at the Texas A&M GI laboratory. Recommendations are to test your dogs who may be at risk and to increase awareness of this disease and parasite! Tell your veterinarian if your dog has a history of exposure to freshwater in areas of suspicion.REFERENCES:Aicher K, Poellmann L, Diagnosis and treatment of Heterobilharzia americana in dogs. EAST CENTRALPaul ReniusEAST COASTLinda McCartneyNEW DIRECTORS:Linda McCartney’s journey with Brittanys began in 1978 when she purchased her first female as a hunting companion. Growing up in a family of sportsmen and hunters, a love for dogs was already in her DNA. But it was Penelope, her first Brittany, who introduced her to the world of field trials—and there was no turning back. Her second Brittany led her deeper into the field trial circuit and eventually into the show ring. That special dog, DC Triumphant War-boy C.D., became her first Dual Champion, setting the stage for an incredible career in breeding, training, and handling. Over the years, Linda’s breeding program has produced over 200 titled Brittanys, earning distinctions such as Best in Show (BIS), Best in Specialty Show (BISS), Champion (CH), Field Champion (FC), and National Amateur Gun Dog Champion (NAGDC). However, what remains closest to her heart are the Dual Champions—dogs that excel in both field and conformation, embodying the Brittany’s true versatility.Linda is a passionate advocate for the Dual Champion and the ABC Code of Ethics, dedicated to preserving the Brittany as a dual-purpose dog. She believes strongly in protecting the breed’s legacy and future for generations to come. Her commitment to the Brittany community is evident in her extensive involvement with the American Brittany Club. She has served as president of the Central New England Brittany Club (CNEBC) for many years and sat on the ABC Board of Directors. She’s worn many hats, including Field Trial Chair, Hunt Test Chair, Specialty Show Chair, and Secretary. Linda has also devoted years to Brittany rescue, serving as the ABC Northeast Coordinator. As the ABC East Coast Director, Linda brings a wealth of experience, passion, and leadership to the organization. Her deep-rooted love for the breed, coupled with her hands-on experience in both competition and rescue, makes her a dynamic force in the Brittany community. My journey with pointing dogs began 36 years ago. Over the years I’ve trained, campaigned, and shown several notable Brittanys and field bred English Setters. NAWGDC/FC Alder Swamp Collie (Billy) is my current pride and joy. He shares the couch with FC/AFC Annie and a black hearted barking shag named Alice. I have also judged many trials and hunt tests in AKC and American Field, including several National Championships and regional AF Championships. The people in the Brittany world are some of the very best around. I have made friendships that have endured and thrived over the decades. Sadly, some of the icons that mentored me are no longer with us, but I am encouraged to see some fantastic young people become active in the Brittany community. Professionally, I graduated from Michigan State University with a couple of engineering degrees in 1985. I later added a graduate degree from the overrated University of Michigan. I spent 34 years at General Motors working in Body Structures, have been published in automotive trade magazines, and hold several patents. I decided to run for director because I’m passionate about Brittanys, especially in the field. I just thought some of my experience may be of service. I decided to run for Regional Director because I am extremely handsome and passionately dedicated to Brittanys—especially in the field. More seriously, I hope that my experience may be of service to the American Brittany Club.CENTRALEd JanulisEd brings over 35 years of experience with Brittanys joining the ABC back in 1991. With this membership, it introduced him to many opportunities to participate and serve in the ABC organization. He is a proud member of the LaSalle Brittany Club, The Prairie State Championship Association and Michigan Championship Association and past memberships in the Illinois Championship Association participating in the organizing and executing of these prestigious competitions. Ed’s commitment to the breed is evident in his long history of hands-on involvement. He has served in key club roles for the regional clubs from officers of the championships and regional clubs to Board Member (2010-2016) and President (2017–2021) of the American Brittany Club Ed’s passion spans a wide range of activities including field trials, futurity events, breeding, and judging. He has been a trusted judge at AKC Regional Field Trials, as well as at major events such as the AKC National Gun Dog Walking Championship. His own dogs have earned titles, including AKC National All Age Championship (NFC/1998 Gamblers Ace In The Hole) AKC Field Champions and Amateur Field Champion among others.Beyond his on-the-ground contributions, Ed has enriched the ABC through extensive service on national committees., he works tirelessly to ensure that the club remains an inclusive organization—one that meets the diverse needs of Brittany owners whether they are involved in field trials, hunt tests, shows, agility, breeding or rescue. With a deep respect for the varied hunting styles of both Gun Dogs and All-Age dogs, Ed’s extensive experience and collaborative approach make him an invaluable leader within the American Brittany Club. The American Brittany ▬ 13 ▬ February 2026

I became involved with Brittanys on my 13th birthday when I requested—and received—a Brittany pup for hunting pheas- ants and quail. My family was always involved with hunting dogs, as we were raised on a farm in Indiana. After the Brittany, I purchased a Weimaraner. Thus began Sanbar Kennels, as my mom (Polly) adored the Brittany and my sister, Sandy, adored the Weimaraner. Mom and Sandy became very respected breeders of their respective breeds.I followed their progress with enthusiasm while pursuing a career in global manufacturing operations leadership, producing precision energy and medical device products. My passion for excellence helped evolve companies to become #1 in their industry segments. When Mom’s dog, Jon, began his premier Brittany journey, I became more involved with Sanbar Kennels, inspired by Mom’s passion for excellence. Together, and with close friends, we combined our passions to further evolve Sanbar Kennels. These efforts resulted in three National Show Championships with three different dogs; multiple National Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex; multiple National Dual Dogs; multiple Best of Veterans; two National Gun Dog Champions; six Dual Champions; five Master Hunters; four Westminster Best of Breed wins; multiple #1 Brittany rankings; and more than 100 Best of Specialty wins.Achieving these accomplishments requires dedication and passion, which I believe compels those who excel to give back by continuously improving the club and advancing breed performance. As directors, we have a fiduciary responsibility to our members to evolve the club, especially as the costs to compete and to continuously improve the breed increase significantly. We must listen to the membership while also understanding the broader environment. My journey with Brittanys began shortly after my marriage to my wife, Joanne, in 1978, when we brought home our first Brittany, Missy, as a house pet. Missy was a wonderful dog, and when she passed at 16 years old, we knew there would always be another Brittany in our lives. We were hooked on the breed. Our next Brittany came from a litter in southern Delaware. The breeder told us we could have our pick and asked what we planned to do with her. I said she would be a house dog, so we chose Diamond. Before we left, I asked him what he did with his dogs. He said field trials and guiding. That single conversation changed everything and set us on a path that began with Blue Rock’s Diamond Girl, my first field trial and hunt test dog.Living on the East Coast, I started trialing in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. It didn’t take long before that expanded from Georgia to Maine, and west to Ohio and Michigan. Along the way, Joanne and I became involved in several clubs, eventually serving as officers and helping run field trials. As my involvement with the American Brittany Club grew, I served as 4th Vice President and was later elected East Coast Director. After retiring, I began traveling even farther west, including weekend trips to Nebraska for trials such as the Chicken and Pheasant. After our longtime trainer, Pete DeAngelis, passed away during the COVID period, Joanne and I felt it was time for a new chapter. In 2022, we moved from Delaware to Oklahoma. With trials and championships closer to home, my involvement only increased. I thought my days of running trials were behind me, but today I am running the Sooner and Northern Oklahoma trials.Throughout my years in the sport, I have always been willing to listen to and mentor new members, engage in thoughtful debate with longtime participants, and advocate for all the venues in which our versatile Brittanys compete. I believe Directors should represent the concerns of the membership within their region and be open to the full range of interests and involvement. As Midwest Regional Director, I am committed to listening, representing, and serving the Brittany Community.WESTCOAST:Bob WestMIDWEST:John PerryInterested In Running For The Board Of Directors Of The American Brittany Club?If you are interested in running for the Board of Directors of the American Brittany Club or know of someone who would be interested, now is the time to let that decision be known. The December quarterly meeting of the Delegates of AKC was held in Orlando in conjunction with the Royal Canine Dog Show week. There were over 5000 dogs entered each day and it was the 25th year celebration of the show. It is always a busy and exhausting week of shows, meetings and on your feet all day.We had a forum meeting prior to our regular Delegate meeting. It was a Q&A for the Board of Director Candidates for the Class of 2030. The meeting lasted an hour and half and candidates were asked questions if they were elected to serve on the BOD, what their stand would be on different issues with the AKC. The 9 candidates were introduced by Sheila Goff. THERE ARE 3 OPEN POSITIONS FOR THE CLASS OF 2030. The candidates are:Carl Ashbey - Kerry Blue Terrier Club of AmericanJason Hoke - Chain O’Lakes Kennel ClubPat Cruz - Hearts of Plains Kennel ClubLaurie Malucci - South Windsor KCKaren Burgess - Greater Clark County Kennel ClubLisa Petersen - Norwegian Elkhound Dominic Carota - Pharaoh Hound Club of AmericanTom Powers - Kennel Club of Beverly Sue Goldberg - Lewiston Auburn Kennel Club HillsAfter the Q&A, the regular meeting was started. Each candidate got to address the Delegate body. Those speeches will be available in the January edition of the AKC Gazette. If anyone has any positive or negative thoughts about these candidates, please advise me as we vote at the March 10, 2026 meeting. The Financial report showed as of September 30, 2025, registrations continue to be 3.8% down. The only proposed amendment that we voted on this month was Chapter 14, Section2 of the Field Trial Rules and Standard Procedure for Retrievers, which explains that a disqualification by a judge in hunting tests of field trials will count and a disqualification across both sports. The vote was in the affirmative and the changes will be made in the following rule books: Beagle Field Trial Rules for Brace, Small pack Field Trials and Small Pack Option, Chapter 5, section 4Beagle Field Trial Rules for Large Pack Field Trials, Chapter 5, Section 4Pointing Breed Field Trial Rules, Chapter 14, Section 4BSpaniel Field Trial Rules, Chapter 5, Section 4In our Field Trial Meeting we continued to discuss the low number of judges that have completed the Darkness to Light course. According to Doug Lundgren, there is no extension, however, if anyone decides they want to take the course, you can contact the AKC and they will help them get on the website for the tests. We also discussed the addition of an Amateur Owner Handled Qualifying Stake in Retriever Field Trial Stakes.Bob and Doug also reminded Hunt Test judges to please check the collars on the dogs that come to the line. People are finding ways to use training collars in testing situations. It was also discussed that each of the guns the participants are using should also be checked. Some are not regulation. Also discussed with the AKC Board Liaison and AKC Staff Liaison concerns about the loss of judges due to age, retirement, lack of respect and what we can do to educate for the future. It was also discussed how to better communicate regulation and rule changes to the judges. It was discussed to form a Hunt Test/Field Trial Committee Facebook pages to convey pertinent info and best practices.Discussion was held as to what each club requires for Breeder of Merit for various clubs. As always, I enjoy representing the club as a Delegate. If there is anything you want clarified to want brought up at a Field Trial meeting, please do not hesitate to contact me.Happy New Year, TerryAKC DELEGATE REPORT SUBMITTED BY: TERRY [email protected] | 610-349-3460The American Brittany ▬ 15 ▬ February 2026

At the 2025 American Brittany Club National Specialty held in Fort Smith, Arkansas,Junior Handlers and Pee Wee participants were an energetic and heart-warming part of the weekend’s events. Beyond competing in the ring, Juniors and Pee Wees participated in activities, creating opportunities to build friendships and feel welcomed into the National community. Each person got a goodie bag filled with all sorts of treasures. This year, we kicked off the National with a luncheon featuring Subway sandwiches where our juniors and peewees could relax and connect with one another, followed by a scavenger hunt that sent them searching for the greatest minds in Brittanys. On Friday, an ice cream social following the conclusion of Winners Bitch gave everyone a chance to unwind and celebrate their hard work this year. Before the peewees took to the ring, everyone enjoyed a delicious Dunkin Donuts, juice and milk breakfast. It was a great way to kick off the last day, and camaraderie built over the weekend. These experiences were made possible through the generous support of the Texas Coastal Brittany Club, Pat and Joy Crisler, Heather Michalke, Candice and Shawn Gibson, Pinemark Brittanys, Doggit, EarthBath, and Lickimat, all of whom helped ensure these young handlers felt valued and supported as an essential part of the future of our breed and sport. 2025 AMERICAN BRITTANY CLUBNational AgilityWinnersNOVEMBER 23, 2025 | Photos by: Endellion Photography | Submitted by Sue Drazek, Trial ChairWith goodwill and hard work, our Agility committee and all exhibitors held 5 Brittany only agility trials in 3 days with the 2025 National Specialty Show in Fort Smith, AR. We had a total of 17 handlers with 25 dogs entered in 134 runs for all trials. The NSS Agility Trial takes place on Sunday and every entered dog competes for High In Trial recognition. The speed, in yards per second, for each dog in both Standard and Jumpers classes are calculated and averaged. The dog with the highest average YPS is declared the High In Trial winner and is awarded the KAZE Memorial Trophy.HIT Veteran (8 years and older): GCHB MACH9 Star Flight Madhouse On Madison SH MXS3 MJG3 by GCHP Star Flight Jumpin Jack Flash - GCH Lyric’s Shilo b: Marie Starsiak & Geri Clements o: Hali & William Jones HIT ILP/PAL: AGCH MACH10 PACH5 RACH Just Another Brit In The Wall RM6 TAE3 RC3 MXG3 PAD MJS4 MXP12 MXPC MJP11 MJPC PJDP PAX5 MXF MFPG TQXP T2B2 T2BP3 SWE SEME SCEE SBEE SHDA By Ralph - GinJac The Magic Touch b: Gina Currier o: Jan Brunner HIT Preferred: GCHB MACH9 Star Flight Madhouse On Madison SH MXS3 MJG3 by GCHP Star Flight Jumpin Jack Flash - GCH Lyric’s Shilo b: Marie Starsiak & Geri Clements o: Hali & William Jones HIT Novice: CH Suntex-Jenvy’s First Saturday In May CGC TKN by GCHG Dogwood Hollow Point Of No Return BCAT - GCHS Crosscreek Bama Jama’s Adalida Sweet Dixie Flower b: Barb Deike & Rose Leale. o: Addie HellmersHIT Open: CH Astra Born Among The Ashes BCAT CGC TKN by DC Sunnyvale Point Of Interest JH - GCH TC AFC Firestarter Born Among The Stars MXB MJS OF b: Amanda McGavin & Shawn Macleod. o: Erin and Jamin Sneed & Amanda McGavinHIT Excellent: K Star’s Porter Of The Cricklewood CD BN NAP OJP By CH Stillhunter’s Red Solo Cup - CH K Star Hope Pour Belle JH b: Mary Kat Shannon o: Addie HellmersHIT Master: MACH6 Johnny Be A Good Boy Mulligan MXS2 PAD MJG2 PJD MFS TQX T2B4 BCAT SWE SCM TKI By Cooter Of Wright - Heel Creeks Satin Spark b: Tom Wright o: Colleen Mulligan Overall HIT Winner/Kaze Memorial Trophy: MACH6 Johnny Be A Good Boy Mulligan MXS2 PAD MJG2 PJD MFS TQX T2B4 BCAT SWE SCM TKI By Cooter Of Wright - Heel Creeks Satin Spark b: Tom Wright o: Colleen MulliganJudge’s Choice Awards (2): The most exciting handlers.• Hali Jones• Terry SantelliHIT Winner/Kaze Memorial Trophy: MACH6 Johnny Be A Good Boy Mulligan MXS2 PAD MJG2 PJD MFS TQX T2B4 BCAT SWE SCM TKIHIT Excellent: K Star’s Porter Of The Cricklewood CD BN NAP OJPHIT Open: CH Astra Born Among The Ashes BCAT CGC TKNThe American Brittany ▬ 22 ▬ February 2026

Passing Along PositivityIf you attended the 2025 National you may have noticed a little addition to your grooming area. When we’ve been running around, grooming multiple dogs, and just generally are at the end of our ropes by the end of the week….the feeling was we all needed a pick me up. LeslieAnn borrowed this idea from some of the all-breed shows that have either ducked or passed along positivity. Hopefully everyone found their positive pet being a welcome addition to your National experience, and that it changed your mindset to being a bit more positive. Just remember at the end of the day it’s just a dog show and stay positive.Norman the GnomeIf you attended the 2025 National, you may have noticed a familiar little face making the rounds once again...Norman returned! After spreading smiles and national cheer last year, our favorite traveling gnome was back in action, roaming the grooming area, ringside, cars, and fairgrounds to reconnect Brittany people and spark a little extra joy. Whether he landed on your grooming table, joined you ringside, or showed up unexpectedly to say hello, Norman served as a lighthearted reminder to slow down, smile, and enjoy the experience. Thank you to everyone who welcomed Norman back, shared him along, snapped photos, and embraced the fun.Wall of Fame & MemorialThe American Brittany National Specialty is built on tradition and at its heart are the dogs and people who have shaped our breed and our community. The Wall of Fame and Memorial served as a meaningful space to honor both excellence and remembrance.THE WALL OF FAMEThe Wall of Fame continues to celebrate the legacy of our Best of Breed winners, featuring photographs and brief bios of past champions who have left a lasting mark. These dogs represent generations of dedication and passion for the breed. For longtime members, it was a walk down memory lane; for newer exhibitors, it offered a glimpse into the history and excellence that continue to define our Nationals. Thank you to the members who have compiled this tradition over the years!IN MEMORIAMNearby, the Memorial provided a space to honor members we have lost in recent years. These individuals were mentors, friends, breeders, handlers, volunteers, and supporters who helped build the American Brittany Club into what it is today. The Memorial was a reminder that while dogs may come and go through our lives, the people behind them leave an imprint that lasts far beyond the show ring. Thank you to the members who did the work behind the scenes to make this possible. The American Brittany ▬ 33 ▬ February 2026

TopThe 2025 Top Twenty Event was a celebration of the very best Brittanys in the breed and the dedication, sportsmanship, and passion of the people who make this sport so special. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who supported the event by attending, entering, volunteering, donating, purchasing tables, or participating in the raffles. Your continued support is what allows this event to grow and evolve year after year. This event would not be possible without the leadership and commitment of an outstanding team of volunteers. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Third Vice-President Joy Crisler and Top Twenty committee members Hailey Gould, Rebecca Hulstein, and Sara Taylor. Their time, organization, and dedication ensured a seamless and memorable event. We would also like to thank our stewards, led by Chief Ring Steward Maurya Ord, with Karen Pillion Schramm and Roxanne Bashor serving as stewards. This year brought several exciting updates that continued to build momentum for the Top Twenty. One of the most notable changes was a new schedule, with judging taking place earlier in the day and the banquet held that same evening. We were also delighted to have our judges join us at the banquet as we officially kicked off the 2025 American Brittany Club National Specialty. Electronic voting was once again utilized, allowing us to announce the People’s Choice winner live. For the first time ever, all winners were revealed the same evening, adding to the excitement and celebration of the night. We extend our sincere gratitude to our judges, Rebecca Heimann, Danelle Brown, and Helen Riggle, for dedicating their time and expertise and for joining us in Fort Smith, Arkansas.A special thank you goes to Louise Griffin for hosting this year’s hospitality happy hour as we honored Marshall, our 2024 Top Twenty winner. We were also proud to introduce a new addition to the event, the NOHS Spotlight, recognizing the Top 15 Owner-Handled Brittanys of 2024. While these dogs were not eligible for awards, they were absolutely deserving of their moment in the spotlight. Congratulations to this year’s Top Twenty winner, GCHG CH TrioSchoenhund’s Young, Scrappy, and Hungry, “Hamilton.” Award of Merit honors were presented to GCHP CH Sovereign’s Legendary Disciple JH BCAT CGC TKN, “Titus,” and GCH CH Fernhill’s Rocket To The Sun JH, “Elton.” The People’s Choice award was also presented to GCH CH Fernhill’s Rocket To The Sun JH, “Elton.”We would also like to thank Chuck Lawrence for once again serving as our master of ceremonies and guiding us through an unforgettable evening. As we reflect on another successful Top Twenty Event, we are excited to see this tradition continue to grow and evolve. AMANDA PETTINATO (SHOW)I started as a junior handler in 2001 at 9 years old. My first junior showmanship dogs were German Shorthaired Pointers. Starting in 2004, I was mentored by Robert and Joyce Wire of RJ Brittanys and co-owned dogs with them. I showed them in junior showmanship, qualified for Eukanuba (that was what Royal Canin was called then) and finished a few of their dogs. I co-owned Tyler, Ben and Katie with them and was fortunate to participate in several west coast specialties. I was able to watch the Wires as they bred litters and helped them to evaluate dogs and socialize them a bit. My family is not active breeders, but they are locally active with their GSP club and nationally with their parent club. Both have held many offices and subsequently worked and chaired many events. I have been involved with hunt tests, walking field trials and conformation events from a local club level for 20 years or so. I have also participated in National events as a junior and as an adult. All of my German Shorthaired Pointers and Brittanys have had hunt test titles and field trial experience. Most all of my dogs have been field trial pointed or have placements, including my current GSP who is finishing her juvenile points currently. My father is an AKC judge for hunt tests and field trials so I have experience with trained dogs and watching the training process from litter evaluation to field work. I have watched and worked my dogs with my father.I find it very important that a hunting breed is bred and built to do their job. Front assemblies and proper proportions and balance are imperative for a functioning bird dog. Movement is a great indicator of all of the parts fitting in place.Thank you for your consideration.GINA BOSIO (FIELD) Hello fellow field trialers. My name is Gina Bosio and I have had hunting dogs all my life. Our first family hunting dog was a Weimarner which turned out to be my breed of choice for my first Field trial dog as well as my hunting partner for decades. I now run German Shorthair Pointers in the field trial circuit. I have been blessed and successful with both breeds as an Amateur owner/handler and trainer.Honestly any breed of our pointing dogs that carries itself naturally (drive and style), reaches and finishes strong puts a smile on my face!!Thank you for asking me to judge your Field Futurity.Best of luck to all!JEFF SINGEWALD (FIELD)My name is Jeff Singewald and I am honored to be judging your American Brittany Club Western Futurity this year. My wife and I currently live in Penn Valley, California where we raise our gun dogs and horses on our small ranch. I grew up in rural Northern California and hunted wild pheasant and mountain quail over both German Shorthaired Pointers and Brittany Spaniels. I acquired my first field-bred Shorthair in 1998 and soon became hooked on the sport of field trialing. I have been blessed and fortunate to be successful both locally and at the national level as an Amateur owner/handler and trainer.I have judged many local and regional trials in California, Oregon and Nevada as I thoroughly enjoy watching dogs compete in the field. I thoroughly enjoy watching both juvenile and adult pointing dogs, regardless of breed, exhibit their style, drive and endurance through the entire time they are under my watch.I look forward to good sportsmanship with the competitors in the field and meeting you and watching your young dogs. Last but not least, don’t forget to have fun and enjoy the time afield. Thanks,JeffMeet the 2026 Western Futurity Judges:The American Brittany ▬ 37 ▬ February 2026

This issue highlights one of our National events, our National Specialty Show. It is always exciting to see our breed come together, supported by dedicated owners, breeders, handlers, and volunteers. Alongside the conformation competition, we are proud to celebrate the Brittanys who excelled in agility, obedience, and rally, presenting our breed in multiple venues. As always, it is exciting to see our young handlers in the ring as well. These Juniors and Peewees did an amazing job and brought smiles and cheers from the crowd all week. Congratulations to all who participated and showcased their dogs at the National. Thank you to everyone who submitted photos, results, and write-ups to help us celebrate the winners and highlight the events of the National Specialty. Your contributions ensure that this issue reflects the excitement and excellence of the week!As we move forward, please remember to send in your show, field, and performance results and photos. They help us recognize accomplishments across the country and keep our Brittany community connected. We are looking forward to highlighting our National field events in the next few issues to continue reporting on the wonderful National month. Just a reminder, as you submit pictures to the magazine, it is helpful to rename the file with your dog’s name. Again this year, we appreciate your patience around the holiday months on the timeliness of the arrival of your magazine. Periodical mail is not always the priority at this time of year. If you have any address change, please be sure to update your profile on the website so that your magazine is delivered to the correct location. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact membership.Enjoy this issue celebrating our National Specialty! The versatility, instinct, enthusiasm, conformation, and companionship are just a few of the qualities that I love about this breed!Looking ahead to an exciting year with the Brittanys we love,From theMagazineChairColleen WalshAMERICAN BRITTANY CLUB 2026Futurity Host Clubs, Dates & Locations:WESTERN FUTURITY HOST CLUB: California, San Diego and Northern California Brittany ClubsWHEN / WHERE / WHAT:Thursday, February 12, 2026 Show: All About Dogs Training Center, Grass Valley, CaliforniaFriday, February 13, 2026field trial: Jones Corral, Spenceville California Wildlife RefugeSECTION MANAGER: Michelle Millette, [email protected] SECRETARY: Yvonne Shanto, [email protected] FUTURITY HOST CLUB: Anthracite Brittany ClubWHEN / WHERE / WHAT:Wednesday, April 15, 2026show at English Setter Club of Medford, New JerseyThursday/Friday April 16-17, 2026 field trial at English Setter Club of Medford, New JerseySECTION MANAGER: Terry Hilliard, [email protected] SECRETARY: Barbara Dunkling, [email protected] FUTURITY HOST CLUB: Minnesota Brittany ClubWHEN / WHERE / WHAT:Thursday, April 30, 2026, show at Bird Dog Ranch, Thayer, IowaMay (Friday)1, 2026, field trial at Bird Dog Ranch, Thayer, IowaSECTION MANAGER: Doug Ziegler, [email protected] SECRETARY: Jake Droel, [email protected] Brittany club futurity chairman: Leslee Masolotte [email protected] 303-791-1813Futurity nomination /final forfeit secretary: Sue Lehosky, [email protected] 412-303-7719 Eligibility editor and event section coordinator:Jacqui Campbell [email protected] 425-308-0750Committee members: Darlene Dow, Leslie Andreas, Diane Hedstrom, Amanda McGavin, Michelle Millette, Joy Ory, Colleen WalshColleenThe American Brittany ▬ 38 ▬ February 2026
