FC Trax Phantom Menace, CGC
"Luther"
Sire: Trax Chilli Thom Sawyer
Dam: Trax Moonstruck
Breeder: Cindilla Trent
Owners: Shirley Nilsson & Marilyn Black
Luther’s path to a Field Championship was one highlight after another. As a juvenile he won
all breed puppy and derby stakes as well as the Western Regional Classic Open Derby and
Field Futurity stakes. He won his first broke stake as a yearling and finished his FC title with
3 and 5 point all breed horseback stake major wins as a 3 year old. Luther was trained and
handled to his field trial wins by Todd Yamamoto and Shirley Nilsson and he subsequently
went on to achieve a bench championship to become a Dual Champion. Hearty thanks to the
many folks that assisted with Luther’s development and success.
FC AFC Jaas N Silverthorn's Gleaming Spur
"Spur"
Sire: FC Jaas Gambel Quail Of Harwil
Dam: Silverthorn's Legend Of The Grey Ghost
Breeder: Garth White
Owner: Wayne Cowles
2021 was a terrific year for Spur!
In January, Spur won a three point major Amateur Gun Dog stake at the Greater Phoenix
Brittany Club trial in Sonoita, Az, finishing his Amateur Field Championship. Spring found
us concentrating on open stakes with points and retrieving credits slowly adding up. Fall
saw improvement at every trial culminating with Spur winning the Open Gun Dog stake, a
three point major, at the WCA Mid-America Classic in Hubbard, TX, completing his Field
Championship. Very proud of this boy!

Breeders: Brandon Sims & Meredith Wadsworth
Owner: Brandon Sims
We wanted to keep a puppy from Bailee when we bred her, but we didn’t choose Hallie; she
chose us. Evaluating as a puppy she seemed like a very sweet tempered, spirited & stylish
puppy, with a lot of bird drive, which never changed as she matured. She broke out easily, kept
her style, and had zippy ground speed. She isn’t a tough dog but not soft either. She is the type
you just always enjoy working. She has a nose to go with those qualities and loves to hit brush
which is why we nick named her Bush Bunny. Missing a full season breaking her we came to
trialing with her, and within one season running broke dog stakes, she finished both her AFC &
FC. We couldn’t be more proud of what she’s done so far.

WCA Breeder Referral
Expecting Puppies?
by Billie Thompson
A new litter of puppies fills us with excitement, hopes and dreams. It’s a perfect time to
take advantage of your WCA Breeder Referral service.
A few things you might like to know about this service.
• I do not screen inquiries. Instead, that is up to each individual breeder. Breeders
have individual preferences for selecting potential homes for their puppies.
• The greater number of inquiries comes from people wanting a well-bred puppy and
some have also done a little research on the breed.
• The majority of inquiries are from people that do not want to travel far for a pup,
though I encourage them to consider greater distances.
• The majority of inquiries indicate they want to obtain a puppy from a
reputable breeder.
• If no one has listed a litter in an area preferred by an inquiry, I give out contacts for
any local clubs nearby as well.
This service is available to all WCA members. Futurity litters are automatically placed on
the list. If your litter is not nominated, simply email your information to me to be placed
on the list.
Everyone is welcome to notify me as early as pregnancy is confirmed!
Your information should include - sire and dam, approximate due date, your city, state,
email and phone number.
Please send this information to [email protected].
Thank you, and best of luck with your litters!

Spinal Disease and Weimaraners
Submitted by: Debra Konkol

The Shark Twins are a set of Weimaraner siblings that are living with Spinal Dysraphism. They would
like to share their story and remind everyone of the importance of genetic testing. The twins were
lucky to find their forever home with their foster family. With lots of love, intense work and some special
considerations and acclimations, they are thriving !!
Please read the Shark Twins story, watch the video and remember to always test and breed responsibly !!
Thank you very much for taking the time to
read about The Shark Twins & a big thanks
to The Weimaraner Club of America for the
opportunity to share their story.
Aralyn Jane and Jerome Jedi (A.J. & J.J.)
were born on 6/1/2018 in Las Vegas, NV. A
litter of 5 total pups, they were born in the
same amniotic sack making them rare male/
female twins. Immediately their breeder
noticed that something wasn’t right with the
way they walked. Their back legs appeared
weak, they hopped when they walked, and
in Jerome’s case his hind quarters were
noticeably atrophied. The breeder reached
out to a local advocate for Tickled Pink
Weimaraner Rescue & after a vet visit the twins were diagnosed Spinal Dysraphism,
commonly known as Hopper’s Disease in
Weimaraners.
Spinal Dysraphisms refer to a broad group
of malformations affecting the spine and/
or surrounding structures in the dorsum of
the embryo. They are a form of neural tube
defect.
The neural tube is formed by the lengthwise
closure of the neural plate, in the dorsum
of the embryo. The upper part of the neural
tube forms the forebrain, midbrain and
hindbrain. The lower part of the neural
tube forms
the spinal
canal. Dysraphism results when the neural plate does not
fuse completely in its lower section (Imran, M., Goel,
A. Neural tube defects. Reference article, Radiopaedia.
org. https://doi.org/10.53347/rID-7736). The condition
presents itself at birth and is characterized by an abnormal
gait, general weakness, and lack of motor function in the
back legs.
Since this was the breeders first litter they were unaware
how important it is to do genetic testing for these types
of defects before any siring occurs. Reaching out to
rescue was the best decision they could have made for
the twins & after fostering for a few weeks we fell in
love and decided to adopt. Having extensive experience
Page 12
with weims and rescue we wanted to give them the best chance to live the healthiest
and fullest lives they could. We worked with them every day to strengthen their
legs including treadmill time, swimming, running, and massage. Slowly and with a
lot of encouragement they began to become much
stronger, balanced, and more confident in their general
movement. Jerome especially, who also suffers from
scoliosis, could barely use his hind legs at first. Even
when he could get himself upright he’d have to propel
himself forward by hopping almost horizontally. We
set up and encouraged him to go through narrow
passageways in an effort to get him to straighten
himself out when running or moving forward. And you
know what? It worked! At first he’d stand there and
think about how to do it, straighten out, and go for it.
Even though he still hops and has a curve to his spine
it’s now become second nature for him to move in a
more “normal” fashion.
Caring for Aralyn and Jerome and seeing them
develop into happy, outgoing, and inquisitive dogs has
been extremely rewarding & the deep bond they share
is apparent to anyone who meets them. They clearly
love and support each other and have always been
together from the very start to where they are now…
most likely asleep on the couch covered in plush
blankets. Thanks again for reading their story and

Spring 2022 Specialty Shows
April 30 & May 1, 2022
Bear, DE
Submitted by: Sue Ramspacher
The Delaware Valley Weimaraner Club held a specialty show and supported entry on
April 30th and May 1st in conjunction with the Wilmington and Penn Treaty Kennel
Clubs’ all-breed shows at Lums Pond State Park, Bear, DE. We’ve enjoyed holding our
specialties at this lovely campground location for quite a few years and, once again,
this year didn’t disappoint.
Saturday’s Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes kicked things off with entries judged by
Mr. Todd Clyde and Ms. Kimberly Ann Meredith presided over the impressive Regular
and Best of Breed classes. Being the first outdoor show of the year for most and a
somewhat breezy and chilly day, it was quite fun watching the dogs’ antics as they tried
to take in all the fresh and enticing smells.
Sunday’s weather remained cool and clear for sweepstakes judge Ms. Dani Rosenberry
and specialty judge Mr. Larry Berg to select their winners from nice fields of entrants.
Congratulations to all ribbon recipients, winners, and new title earners! Thanks to
DVWC members and all the exhibitors who contributed to the success of the shows.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our Fall Specialty which will be held on
September 11th in conjunction with the Westchester Kennel Club all-breed show in
Bridgewater, NJ.

A Rescue Story
Submitted by: Becky Weimer
On August 26, 2021, the SPCA in Dallas contacted Weimaraner Rescue Texas to ask for
assistance in placing 46 Weimaraners that a breeder had surrendered. Several rescue groups
took in the dogs for placement: Weimaraner Rescue Texas, Arkansas Weimaraner Rescue, Mile
High Weimaraner Rescue, Grey Ghost Weimaraner Rescue and Oregon Weimaraner Rescue. The
Weimaraner Foundation Fund was glad to be able to assist with the large expenditures needed
for veterinary care. The following is the story of one Weimaraner who was cared for by the
Weimaraner Rescue community.

Hosted by the Weimaraner Club of the
Washington, DC Area
April 19 – 21, 2022
Slate River Farm, Dillwyn, VA
Chair: Becky Fockler Secretary: Mary Brown
The Weimaraner Club of the Washington DC Area held the Eastern Classic in Dillwyn, VA
on the Slate River Farm grounds beginning Tuesday, April 19 and concluding Thursday,
April 21, 2022. The weather was warm but overall excellent! For some of us, it was the
first field trial of the spring that did not include rain, ice, snow or sleet! The event was
small with 39 entries. We had 5 fantastic judges who were always on time and kept the
show going! We appreciate attendance from professionals, Diane Vater and Chuck Cooper.
Thanks to Mary Brown for handling field trial secretary activities and coordinating items
such as photographs, trophies and courses. Thanks to Danny Gooch for gunning and bird
planting. Tim Carwile helped with gunning and Grace Anne Mengel planted birds for the
call backs. Horses were outstanding and provided by Al Underwood. We had lots of help
from participants and the committee with the dog wagon.
We want to thank Purina for continuing to sponsor the Classic!
Jewel’s Thief UnCaged “Robber” finished his Field Championship at the Classic by
winning the Open Gun Dog Stake. Congratulations to Robber, the Browns and Diane Vater!

10 Signs Your Dog is Stressed
By: Stacy Painter | Healthypaws.com
There are certain things all responsible dog owners should know, including how to groom
them, basic training, and proper feeding. Another important one is being in tune with your
dog’s body language and behaviors to be able to recognize when something’s not right, so
you can get them the care or relief they need as soon as possible.
Stress can be caused by a number of reasons, such as a medical issue, changes in the
environment, or perceived threats. Here are the common signs of stress in dogs.
Simple body language cues
Ears back: Dogs are very expressive with
their facial cues. When they pin their ears
back against their head, it is a sign of unease.
Tucked tail: A tail tucked between the legs
can be a sign of fear, anxiety, or aggression.
Hiding: Especially if your dog is newly
adopted, seeking a safe place to hide is a
common behavior for a stressed or anxious
pup. If your dog is usually relaxed and
comfortable and you notice he has gone into
hiding, it’s likely due to stress. (Did someone
say “bath time”?)
dog with destroyed toy
Reactions and responses
Yawning: When a dog is in an awkward or uncomfortable situation, they may yawn as a
way of distracting themselves from the discomfort in an effort to alleviate these feelings.
If you see yawning and you know your dog isn’t sleepy, it’s likely that he’s feeling a little
uncomfortable.
Excessive drooling, panting: In the same way humans can get flushed, hot and sweaty
during stressful situations, dogs can also experience a rise in body temperature caused by
stress. You might see panting and possibly extra drooling.
Excessive shedding: If your dog is fearful
of vet visits, you may have noticed extra
shedding at your annual appointments.
Destructive behavior: Highly stressed dogs,
such as those experiencing separation anxiety
while home alone, may engage in destructive
behaviors like scratching at the door, digging
at the carpet, or chewing on furniture (or even
their own paws).
Aggression: Rather than hiding, some dogs
react to stressful situations (like going to
Page 36
the vet or groomer) with aggressive behaviors. This can include growling, snarling, and
snapping.
Accidents in the house: For a dog that has been reliably potty trained, accidents in
the house are signs of either being left home too long without a potty break, a medical
condition, or stress.
Tummy troubles: Stressful situations can
cause vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation.
However, don’t always assume these
problems are due to stress because they are
often signs of other medical issues as well.
Relieving your dog’s stress
What’s stressing your dog may be obvious,
such as fireworks or loud neighbors, going to
the vet, or riding in the car. If you know what
is stressing your dog, try your best to make
him as comfortable as you can by reducing/
removing the stressor or creating a safe space.
If you’re not sure what is causing your dog to be stressed, it’s a good idea to see your
veterinarian as soon as you can, in case of an underlying medical condition. Your vet may
also have good advice on how to alleviate your dog’s stress, such as medication for specific
situations like the Fourth of July.
Being able to recognize signs of stress will help you quickly relieve your dog’s discomfort
as soon as possible.
