Selecting Your Genre BISAC Codes
BISAC stands for Book Industry Standards and Communications and the subject codes are a publishing industry approved list of nine-character alphanumeric codes that represent broad descriptors of genre or subject matter. There are thousands of BISAC Codes, and they allow retailers, libraries, and online retail stores to accurately catalogue and "place" your book among their millions of other offerings. But accurate categorization only occurs if your book has the proper BISAC Codes.
