Component 1 (30%)
INTENT Aim: how to project plan the design and development of a user interface

Assessment: internally assessed assignments

Students will plan, design and create an effective user interface for a
given scenario. For example they will be given a range of different
devices, e.g. mobile phones, tablets, robots, and will then investigate the
type of user interface used and how the user interacts with them.

Component 2 (30%)
Aim: process and interpret data and draw conclusions
Assessment: internally assessed assignments


Students will understand the characteristics of data and information and
how they help organisations in decision making. Furthermore developing
their analytical skills in using spreadsheet and data manipulation
software such as database.


For component 1 and 2 - students will receive feedback from the teacher
on their assignments, this will allow students to improve their
assignments for a final submission and grade.

Component 3 (40%)
Aim: explore how organisations use digital systems and the wider
implications associated with their use
Assessment: scenario-based external 1hr 30 min written exam where
students demonstrate their knowledge to propose digital solutions to
realistic situations.
Students will develop their knowledge of cyber security, including threats
to data, prevention and management to data, security policies,
responsible use of data and legal and ethical working practices, cloud
systems and cloud security, infrastructure – web based, modern
technologies to include working from home, impact of working at home
on mental health.

Drama GCSE

GCSE Drama is a challenging and rewarding course
that teaches students how to develop their

performance skills through a range of projects
exploring different dramatic techniques and theatre
styles. It is a very practical subject and students will
need to be motivated and independent. They will also
have the opportunity to explore and analyse a range

of production elements such as lighting, set design
and costume. As part of the course students will be
required to attend a theatre performance with the
school, which they will then write about in the written
examination. As a student of Drama, every student will

also receive an 'Ignite' card, entitling them to a free
ticket to every Sheffield Theatres in-house production,
as well as discounts for touring shows.

There will be other opportunities outside school to get
involved in performances or to take part in workshops,
all of which will enhance your understanding of Drama.


GCSE Drama is also a great foundation for going on to
study the subject at A Level and beyond.


Drama is not just for students that want to become
actors. The transferable skills that we develop will be
useful in whichever field students wish to go into in the
future. The creative industries provide thousands of
different career options from lighting technicians to set
designers to drama therapists, and many more.

CURRICULUM


Students will practically explore a range of different styles of theatre,
INTENT
from naturalistic to abstract. They will learn to structure a piece of
drama and how to use a variety of performance skills to engage an
audience. Students will also need to be able to analyse, evaluate and

write about drama.


Alongside the specific dramatic skills studied, students will also be
developing a range of discreet transferable skills, e.g. confidence,

teamwork, independence and creative thinking, to name but a few.


To get a brief idea of some of the content covered, BBC Bitesize is a
good place to start. Although not focused on any specific exam board,
it provides some useful information in a friendly format.


A good idea might be to ask the current Year 10 students, as they will
give an honest opinion of what the course is like.

Devising - 40%
Students devise an original piece of theatre from a
stimulus and will also submit an accompanying
portfolio.



Performance from text - 20%
Students are required to perform two extracts from
a published play in front of a visiting examiner.
They can perform monologues, duologues or in

This course goes well with the Health & Social Studies course. If you
INTENT
are interested in early lifestage development 0-8 years, then this
course will give you the knowledge and understanding you need to
become a Paediatric nurse, Doctor, Teacher or a career relating to the
learning and development of the early life stages. This course may

also include a visit and interaction within an early years setting.


You will study 3 components:



Patterns of Child Development (Exam-25%)
You will learn about 5 different areas of development; physical,
cognitive, communication and language, emotional and social – and
how these are linked. You will learn about the 'normal' milestones as
well as the abnormalities during the early stages of development.



Promoting Children's Development through play (Coursework) You
will look into how early years settings use play to promote children's
learning and development at different ages and stages. You will be
able to assess the effect on the child's development based on the

type of play.


The Principles of Early Years Practice (Coursework)
You will learn about the principles that underpin work in early years
settings. These principles shape the way the settings are run as well

meeting the legal requirements. You will explore why it is important to
empower children so that they become independent with a strong
self-image.

This course develops students’ performance, creativity
and practical skills as well as building knowledge and

personal confidence through team work and
leadership opportunities.


What are the entry requirements?
You will need to be able to sing or play an instrument

to a reasonable standard (grade 2) and be able to
read music. You should be having lessons (either
privately or in school) on your chosen instrument (15
minutes per week minimum).



Music Theory Requirements:
When starting the course we advise students who
have not achieved Grade V Theory to come along to
the extra curricular class provided in school. The
theory helps further develop composition work and

helps with the general listening content. This class is
voluntary, but it is very useful.
We would expect candidates to be involved in the
music department extra curricular timetable
(orchestra, choir, jazz band etc). We hold a number of

concerts throughout the year as well as a school
musical every two years.
