Newfield School Achievement Leads to Opportunity and Choice

Newfield School is a happy, thriving and rapidly improving school providing high quality education both in the classroom and throughout a wide range of extra-curricular activities. We are very proud of our recent rapid improvement and put much more of our success down to being an inclusive school at the heart of the community we serve. At Newfield School, the student is at the centre of everything that we do. We have high aspirations for all our students and our goal is to improve the life chances of every learner irrespective of their starting point. We take the business of teaching and learning extremely seriously. Students are valued as individuals and we are passionately committed to their achievement, personal growth and excellence in everything we do. Students are encouraged to thrive in all areas of learning, in the classroom and beyond. Newfield School is part of Mercia Learning Trust, a successful multi-academy trust partnership of schools in the south of Sheffield. One of the benefits of our partnership is that all Newfield students are guaranteed a place in the Sixth Form at King Ecgbert School, if they wish, providing they meet the entry requirements for their chosen courses. Our many visitors are impressed by the purposeful atmosphere and they remark upon the friendliness of our school community - students and adults alike. We value positive relationships at all levels. Good behaviour, hard work, pupil participation and a real desire to learn and improve are central to achievement and this has been acknowledged in our recent Ofsted Report. Newfield School was judged to be ‘Good’ in all areas in March 2022. The report highlights that personal development, high expectations, curriculum, and reading are priorities and strengths at Newfield. Pupils feel safe, there is a strong safeguarding culture, behaviour is very good, pupils are polite, and they take pride in their work. Our expectations for every Newfield student are high; excellence and enjoyment are at the heart of all we seek to do. We believe in the potential of every student, providing opportunities and enabling them to thrive in our caring environment. This is an inclusive school with a diverse and happy community. Effective teaching of the curriculum ensures that pupils achieve highly. Ofsted, 2022

Reading for pleasure is an essential part of school life. Sixth Form Choices Leaders help to shape pupils’ character through a well-planned personal development curriculum. Ofsted, 2022 Whilst Newfield School does not have a sixth form on site, we are proud to be part of the Mercia Learning Trust which includes two sixth form options for our students; King Ecgbert School Sixth Form and Mercia Collegiate Sixth Form. Our schools work closely together, and students benefit from taster experiences, additional induction opportunities and a thorough understanding of their options for Further Education. At Newfield School, we are committed to all students being successful in life beyond secondary school and our collaboration with two exceptional Sixth Forms certainly allows us to prepare students for those next steps.

Newfield School is part of Mercia Learning Trust, a successful and collaborative multi-academy trust in Sheffield. Working as individual schools, and in partnership, our singular intention is to ensure every pupil, whatever their background, will attend an exceptional school. We believe pupils should enjoy school, feel safe and fully supported, be inspired to learn, develop character and aspiration, and realise their full potential. We are so committed to pupil success and wellbeing that we choose to think of every pupil we serve as if they are our own, and to measure our actions and impact against this.
