Exploring the question of volume in all its aspects: the
relationships between volume and surface, fullness and
emptiness, mass and colour, depth and contour. using found
or natural forms, Pascal Kern elevated the everyday to an
almost iconic status; fascinated with the space created and
occupied by the subject, and the purity of its form.

The enigma of Kern‘s artwork lies in his questioning of the boundaries of
sculpture, photography, fiction and function. His unique artistic language

defies categorization, placing both the artist and his creations within an
alternative art history. His work does not refer solely to the past nor to the
present, rather it is an insight into the journey realised by the artist and his

chosen object. The reinforcement through theme and scale of the former
utility of these objects underscores Kern‘s fascination with a history of
purpose and the means of recounting that history through art.

“Connections and rhizomatic fluency fascinate us. The trees’
natural hierarchy is collapsed when the trees are silhouetted,

creating rhizome-like connections everywhere.
It is representative of thought and creativity and the invisible

architecture of societies and how we all move through life.”

“Garry Fabian Miller’s series grow out of one
another from the subtle refining of a motif,
working method or idea. In this way, his practice
is allied to that of scientific exploration:
the process of experiment, observation and
intuition…”

‘The painting of Ian McKeever is renowned for its diversely realised
integration of a generously conceived, palpable surface and the sort of
subtly diffused translucency which would seem to emanate from somewhere

deep within what is – paradoxically - most often a relatively shallow
picture plane or visual field. Ostensibly abstract in both intention and
effect, the variously luminous work often contains echoes , or intentions, of
some kind of transmuted human presence: one might speak of a flattened,

or sublimated, ‘architecture’ projecting an abstracted yet painterly
embodiment of that presence.

“ The nature of visual perception intrigues me: how the eye continually
tries to resolve these images, but is unable to do so, and how that is

unsettling. And I am drawn to the idea that we can believe something is
real, while at the same time knowing it is illusory; that the experience of
visual confusion, when the psyche is momentarily derailed, is what frees
us to respond emotionally. At the same time, the subject of these collages

is color; extreme de-focusing enables me to blend and distill hues,
creating rhapsodies of color that are meditative pieces - glimpses into a

space of pure color, beyond our focus, beyond our ken.”

Objects that have passed through different hands, perhaps over
generations, metamorphose into symbols. The everyday paraphernalia

that surrounded us in childhood becomes antique and quaint over
time, yet takes on a mythical significance in the stories we tell ourselves

about where we have come from.
Long-forgotten memories and feelings re-invoke scenarios buried
deep in our psyches. Like dream symbols, such objects carry multiple
meanings and have a powerful emotional resonance. Technology
has become disposable and un-inheritable, but the structure of our
relationship to objects that once held such significance for us remains.
