KID’S RULES FOR ONLINE SAFETY
1. I will not give out personal information such as my address, telephone
number, parent’s work address/telephone number without my parents’
permission.
2. I will tell my parents right away if I come across something that makes me
feel uncomfortable.
3. I will never agree to get together with someone I “meet” online without first
checking with my parents. If my parents agree to the meeting, I will be sure
that it is in a public place and bring a parent along.
4. I will talk with my parent’s about posting pictures of myself or others online
and not post any pictures that my parents consider to be inappropriate.
5. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel
uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will
tell my parents right away.
6. I will talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for going online and
using a mobile phone. We will decide upon the time of that day that I can be
online, the length of time I can be online and appropriate areas for me to
visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules without their
permission.
7. I will not give out my passwords to anyone (even my best friend) other than
my parents.
8. I will check with my parents before downloading or installing software or
doing anything that could possibly hurt our computer or mobile device or
jeopardize my family’s privacy.
9. I will be a good online citizen and not do anything that hurts other people or
is against the law.
10. I will help my parents understand how to have fun and learn things online
and teach them things about the Internet, computers, and other technology.

RULES OF NETIQUETTE
• Introduction
Netiquette: To me Netiquette is online manners and the word Netiquette is the mix of Net or
Internet and the word etiquette.
• Rule 1: Remember the Human
For this rule Remember the Human it is basically stating that when you are online and talking
to others you have to remember that they too are humans. For this rule you have to
remember the famous rule “Do what you would want people to do to you,” so when you are
online you should be nice and vice versa. Also you have to remember that people have
feelings too and you are talking to a real person.
• Rule 2: Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life
This next rule Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life
means that you should use and follow the same manners that you do in real life online. For
example is someone does something for you and you are texting them you say thank
you. Another example is pirating movies or stealing someone's work just because you are
online does not mean you can steal and in real life you are never supposed to steal.
• Rule 3: Know where you are in cyberspace
The next rule Know where you are in cyberspace states that you should know what kind of
environment you are in before you do anything. There are famous words look before you
leap and that is very important when you are in cyberspace. If there is a spoiler free TV
discussion chat you should not spoil anything because you would very unpopular.
• Rule 4: Respect other people’s time and bandwidth
For this next rule Respect other people's time and bandwidth it is saying that the posts that
you put online should not waste peoples time. For example you should not spam a chat with
the same idea or opinion. This also comes into play when you are in a group chat and you
are spamming because people find that annoying.

• Rule 5: Make yourself look good online
Another thing that you should do when you are online is make yourself look online. This
means that you should use proper grammar and not portrait yourself as a dumb or stupid
person to others. Also before handing in something into a digital newspaper or something of
the sorts you should proof read your paper.
• Rule 6: Share expert knowledge
If you are online you should share your knowledge and post things that help educate other
people about things that you are good at or know a lot about. You should do this because the
internet was made for sharing ideas and educating others.
• Rule 7: Help keep flaming wars to a minimum
Another rule that you should follow is that you should keep flaming wars under control. To
keep them under control you should hold your strongly held opinion to yourself or post it
where it is welcome. If you do post it to a place where it is not welcome you are probably
will get into a flame war and that is not good.
• Rule 8: Respect other people’s privacy
This rule applies in real life as well as online because no matter what you should never snoop
around in people’s business. For example you should not read other peoples email or
patients files because it is not your business.
• Rule 9: Don’t abuse your power
If you are a computer whiz don’t abuse your power and read e-mails without permission.
You should also not use your computer knowledge to hack o beak into something that does
not belong to you.
• Rule 10: Be forgiving of other peoples mistakes
Lastly you have to forgive people for breaking these rules because they may have of had
access to this book. So if it is a major mistake don’t make a scene quietly tell them not to do
them next me
