Learning Target: I can compare and contrast two or more
characters, settings, or events in a story, drawing on specific
details in the text.

Background of this Story:
In some countries around the world the government is

called a dictatorship. In a dictatorship, one person or a small
group of people have complete control of the country. In
many cases the military enforces the control. If a person does
not follow the rules, they may be arrested, threatened,
scared, or tortured. The citizens of that country are not
allowed to talk or act against the dictatorship. A person can
be rewarded if they tell the dictatorship about other people
who are against the government.

characters, settings, or events in a story, drawing on specific
details in the text.

Background of this Story:
“For centuries, the Star of David was a symbol of Jewish

pride. But during World War II, Nazis used the Star to
segregate and terrorize the Jewish people. Except in
Denmark. When Nazi soldiers occupied his country, King
Christian X of Denmark committed himself to keeping all
Danes safe from harm. The bravery of the Danes and their
king has inspired many legends. The most enduring is the
legend of the yellow star, which symbolizes the loyalty and
fearless spirit of the king and his people.”

World War II and
the Holocaust

Learning Target: I can provide a summary of the text that
includes the main ideas and key details, as well as other
important information.

Summary of the article:
The article “World War II and the Holocaust” Shows

how Adolf Hitler set out to rule the world. He came into power
in 1933 and began to encourage persecution of jews.
Starting in 1941, Jewish people were sent to concentration
camps. In these camps over 6 million jews died. He joined
forces with japan and Italy. When bombed pearl harbor on

Chapter 2

How does this picture relate to the chapter?

My Thoughts:

This relates to the chapter because it shows the king greeting a
person and it says that the king would greet them without bodyguards
and was very happy.

including how characters in a story respond to challenges.

not use them for bad usage.

Chapter 12-13

How does this text relate to Number the stars and
particularly Annemarie in chapter 13?

My Thoughts:

This picture relates when anmarie went to help mama and because she was
injured. Anmarie had help mama come back to the house by getting next to here
then she could kinda walk to get to the home. Also when anmarie has to run it looks
like in the picture that he is telling them to run in the book mama told anmarie to run

as fast as you can and was very serious as if it is a life death situation.

Learning Target: I can quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text

Chapter 16-17 and
Afterword

Why does the author include the “Afterword?” Why
is it important to read the afterword, especially in

historical fiction books?

In the book Number the
stars, it is important that the
author included the
afterword because if she
didn’t I would not know
what was really real and
what was fake. This was also
a historical fiction so I could
have thought that annmarie
was a real person and that
the numbing handkerchief
was fake but since there was
a afterword it talk about
what was fake and what was
real and why she made the
book. This is why it was
important to include a
afterword and why it's
important to read especially
in a historical fiction.

Learning Target: I can analyze how visual and multimedia elements contribute to the
meaning, tone, or beauty of a text.

A difference is in the
movie miriale in midnight
that the family had a job
and they wanted to hide the
jews in number the stars it
did not say the dad had a
job.Since in the movie the
dad had a job this would
make it harder to hide the
jews so he hid them in the
beds and made them look
like patients. To conclude
in the movie the dad took a
lot more risks to help the
jews than in the book.
