The JAS Academy presented in collaboration with the Frost School
of Music at University of Miami invites gifted students, drawn

from the US and Internationally, to an intensive training program
designed to identify and develop these artists as world-class

musicians, who are also trained in the business of music and all
its multi-faceted dimensions. With the new collaboration with

Frost School of Music, the Academy was expanded to two weeks
in 2019 with a goal of expanding to four weeks by 2021. Students
study under the direction of JAS Academy Artistic Director Christian

McBride, working in tandem with Frost Dean Shelly Berg and
Program Director Chuck Bergeron.

Twenty-three students were selected in 2019 representing
eleven of the top music schools in the US and beyond.

They spent their first week with a focus on small combo
performances as well as Frost School of Music curriculum with
topics including recording, digital rights, marketing and promotion,
etc. The second week the students worked with 6-time Grammy
winning bassist Christian McBride on a Big Band curriculum, ending
their residency in a Big Band performance with McBride at the JAS

Café upstairs at the Aspen Art Museum.

June 20-June 23, 2019
Downtown Aspen

“After nearly three decades of
entertaining the masses and hosting
some of the biggest names in music,
Jazz Aspen Snowmass went back to
its roots this weekend and reinvented

itself at the same time.”

– Aspen Times, June 24, 2019

Leading into JAS’ 29th season there was a lot of discussion
around how to reinvigorate the JAS June Experience. In recent
years JAS had struggled with finding the right acts for the venue,
artists who they knew would put on an amazing show, while also
attracting enough attendees to fill the Benedict Music Tent. Over
the same time period, JAS was experiencing great success with
the JAS Café series, presenting lesser known artists to smaller
audiences in venues like the rooftop of the Aspen Art Museum,
the downstairs conference room at The Little Nell and the Cooking
School of Aspen. It was this success that led to the decision to
completely change the June format, moving from the Benedict
Tent in the West End into the downtown core, utilizing six diverse

venues for up to ten performances per night.

The result was the ultimate experience that JAS was hoping for!
Attendees moving from venue to venue with the sounds of blues,

jazz, soul, funk, R&B and dance music filling the streets. Nearly
every venue was packed to capacity, some full of dancing, others

with guests seated. Crowds were diverse, as was the music,
attracting a wide range of ages and backgrounds.

Of the 2,000+ attendees, 78% had attended previous JAS June
Experiences, of that group 81% reported to prefer the new format.
Of all attendees 86% reported high satisfaction of the new format.

In addition to the six venues, JAS VIPs were treated to dinner,
drinks and music nightly at the VIP Tent Lounge, located on the
Aspen Ice Rink adjacent to CP Burger. The VIP tent was also the
location for an artist Listen Up! discussion and lunch on Saturday

and New Orleans Jazz Brunch on Sunday.

Three-day pass sales for the annual Labor Day Experience were
once again up from the previous year with 5,248 sold! The VIP

tent hosted a sold-out 2,000 people per night, a new record based
on the expansion of the popular Gold seating area and the return
of the JAS National Council upper deck area.

After introducing a new entrance and transportation system to
mixed reviews in 2018, JAS was able to improve transportation
initiatives, with a quicker egress and more clearly defined routes.

Other improvements in 2019 included a clearer emergency
evacuation and communication plan which fortunately wasn’t

utilized but required attention after the 2018 evacuation.

One of the most mentioned improvements in our audience
surveys included the addition of new filtered water stations,
eliminating the sell of bottled water at our bars, and ultimately

reducing the creation of the equivalent of more than
13,500 plastic bottles over the weekend. JAS partnered with

City Market to bring these two stations to the site allowing
attendees to refill reusable water at no cost.

Over 84% of attendees reported high satisfaction of the
quality of the event with highlights including the quality of the

music and sound, scenery, the more intimate feel
of the JAS venue vs. other larger festival venues and

overall vibe and friendliness of the crowds.

We conducted our audit in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of
America. Those standards require that we plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance
about whether the consolidated financial statements are free of material misstatement.

An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in

relevant to the entity’s preparation and fair presentation of the consolidated financial statements in order
to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of
expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity’s internal control. Accordingly, we express no

reasonableness of significant accounting estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the
overall presentation of the consolidated financial statements.

We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for
