Soledad Hurst FROM OUR BOARD CHAIR from our board chair & producing director

Welcome to the 2019 Theatre Aspen Season and the first in which I have the
honor of serving as Chair of the Board of Theatre Aspen.
Now in our 36th year, Theatre Aspen has consistently brought “world
class theatre” to the Roaring Fork Valley in an intimate way. We get the
rare privilege of watching seasoned Broadway actors work alongside
aspiring college performers and local talent. This season’s Equity and youth
productions promise to be exciting and entertaining, and we hope that you
will have the opportunity to attend all of them.
When our family moved from NYC to Aspen twelve years ago, I knew that I
wanted to be part of the Theatre Aspen community. Over the years I have
watched my children perform, become close friends with fellow board
members and spent my summers getting to know the cast and crew while
being continually awed by what they are able to do in a short time period
and in a small space.
Theatre Aspen’s devotion to the highest quality shows is matched by a wide ranging and impactful arts
education program that is celebrating its 25th anniversary. A vibrant and inspiring theatre is crucial to our
community, and by being here today, you are providing us with tangible support in maintaining that mission.
Thank you so much for your commitment and your enthusiasm.
With heartfelt gratitude,

Soledad Hurst
Theatre Aspen Board Chair

Jed Bernstein FROM OUR PRODUCING DIRECTOR

36th and Second.
No, this is not the location of my favorite New York City deli, but the way
I think about our 2019 Season—Theatre Aspen’s 36th, and my second
summer as Producing Director, for which I feel incredibly lucky.
Lucky because…
Once again, we are welcoming an amazing company of performers,
directors, designers, crew members, apprentices, and summer staff, to
present three main-stage productions: Guys and Dolls, Little Shop of
Horrors, and God of Carnage.
Lucky because…
Our Education Program is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a full summer
of classes, as well as presenting The Wizard of Oz at the Hurst Theatre.
Lucky because…
We are introducing additional programming this summer with an expanded cabaret series and a one-night-only
presentation of Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s South Pacific: In Concert, a collaboration with our partners at the
Aspen Music Festival. And launching “Solo Flights,” our brand new festival of one-person shows, this September.
And luckiest of all…
For the opportunity to collaborate with an extraordinary group of theatre artists, educators, and administrators.
Thank you for joining us as we all share “World class theatre. Dramatically closer.”
Curtain going up…
