Welcome to the tribe

Campfire Academy is a FGASA and CATHSSETA accredited training provider located in Olifants West Nature Reserve, part of the
larger Balule Nature Reserve and the Greater Kruger National Park. Our training programmes and mentorship assist students in
pursuing a career in environmental conservation, tourism or the lodge industry. Campfire’s passionate and knowledgeable
graduates obtain employment in various positions throughout Southern Africa.

We accept NQF2 and NQF4 self-study students who require preparation for their practical assessment. We are also accredited to
conduct practical assessments onsite. Students interested in practical preparation will enjoy personalised attention to ensure
that they are comfortable in the knowledge and skills they must exhibit in order to complete their final assessment successfully.

Practical Preparation

We understand that self-study students come from diverse walks of life. Whether you
grew up in the bush or the concrete jungle, already work in the ecotourism sector or
have a full-time job in another industry, we can prepare you to complete your practical
assessment with confidence and competence.

In preparation for your final assessment, we make a baseline assessment of your current
knowledge and skills and help you identify areas for improvement. We take you out on
twice-daily practice drives or walks during which you will be introduced to the area, have
the opportunity to solidify your knowledge and practice key skills. Should there be any
aspect that you wish to concentrate on during your preparation, please discuss this with
us so that we can provide you with adequate support.

In addition to our principal trainer, Campfire is home to a friendly group of staff and
residents who are qualified guides and conservation workers. Their collective knowledge
and experience is vast and they are always happy to share. You are encouraged to reach
out to them during your stay and to incorporate their feedback into your learning.

MEET YOUR ASSESSOR

Laetitia Cronjé

Laetitia is the founder, chairperson and principal trainer of
Campfire Academy. She has been guiding people from all walks
of life towards reconnecting with nature for 13 years.

Laetitia is a Professional First Rifle Trails Guide and FGASA
accredited instructor. She also holds a BSc (Zoology & Botany),
BSc (Hons) in Environmental Management and a PGCE (Natural
Sciences). Laetitia is fascinated by the infinite intricacy of
Mother Nature's creation and absolutely loves sharing these
wonders with her students.

FGASA Practicals

The following periods have been earmarked for receiving NQF2 and
NQF4 students for practical prep and assessments:

01 APR - 30 MAY
28 JUN - 01 OCT
04 OCT - 17 DEC

During this time we will have students on various qualification
pathways in camp – self-study students completing practical prep
and assessments, online theory course students enrolled for long-
stay practical training and Apprentice Field Guide students on a 90-
day course. You are sure to slot in with an energetic tribe of nature
lovers. You can book a training stint of any duration within these
periods but please consider making your booking as soon as possible
as space is limited within each period.

SAME-DAY ASSESSMENT

Students arrive and complete their final assessments on the same day. Rate does not include training, meals or accommodation.
FACILITY FEE: R150 ONCE-OFF

PRACTICAL PREP | SELF-CATERING

Rates include daily training and accommodation. Students supply and prepare their own meals in our fully equipped camp kitchen.

PRACTICAL PREP | FULL MEAL PLAN

Rates include daily training, accommodation and three meals per day. Breakfast and lunch items are supplied but self-served and dinner is
catered according to a set menu.

Please note

The assessment cost is charged separately and in addition to the relevant facility or daily/weekly training fee. The assessment cost includes all
the relevant FGASA and CATHSSETA fees. Please note that you do not have to book a preparation stay in order to complete your final
assessment with us but it is recommended. The assessment costs will remain fixed throughout 2021 at the following rates unless increases
in FGASA or CATHSSETA fees necessitate us to increase our rates:

NQF2 ASSESSMENT COST: R1200.00
NQF4 ASSESSMENT COST: R2000.00

We do NOT train on Saturdays or Sundays. The weekly rates (arrive Monday, depart next Monday) include weekend accommodation and meals (if
the full meal plan option is selected) but does NOT include weekend training. The weekly rates (arrive Monday, depart Monday) are applicable to
students who want to book several weeks of practical prep or students who wish to spend the weekend in the bush after their practical
assessment.

If a student wishes to book only 1-3 days of practical prep AND weekend accommodation, e.g. arrive Wednesday and depart the following
Monday, they will be charged according to the following rates:

R900 (self-catering) OR R1070 (full meal plan) per training day
R500 (self-catering) OR R670 (full meal plan) per weekend day

All students must pay a once-off conservation levy upon entering the Reserve. The charges are as follows:
R85 per vehicle (only applicable if the student enters the Reserve with their own transport)
R200 per occupant/person (students who make use of public or commercial transport, and are collected by Campfire, will only pay this fee)
