In the nascent days of cinema, during the silent film era, makeup was quite simple and rudimentary. Max Factor, who is often referred to as the father of makeup, began his career in the film industry during this period. Originally, his makeup kits were designed for stage actors, but they found a new purpose in the burgeoning film industry. These kits were instrumental in helping actors' features stand out in the grainy, black-and-white films of the time. This marked the first major step in the evolution of movie makeup, setting the stage for more sophisticated makeup techniques to come. The Technicolor Revolution
The introduction of Technicolor in the 1930s brought about a significant change in the makeup industry. He invented a new type of makeup, which he aptly named "Pan-Cake". This makeup was thicker and had a high pigment concentration, which helped the actors' skin to appear more natural on camera.
