The United States Pharmacopeia General Chapter <800> provides .
standards to protect personnel and the environment when handling .
hazardous drugs. This chapter describes practice and quality .
standards for handling hazardous drugs (HDs) to promote patient .
safety, worker safety, and environmental protection. Handling HDs .
includes, but is not limited to, the receipt, storage, compounding, .
dispensing, administration, and disposal of sterile and nonsterile .
products and preparations. This chapter applies to all healthcare .
personnel who handle HD preparations and all entities which store, .
prepare, transport, or administer HDs (e.g., pharmacies, hospitals and .
other healthcare institutions, patient treatment clinics, physicians' .
practice facilities, or veterinarians' offices). Personnel who may .
potentially be exposed to HDs include, but are not limited to: .
pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses, physicians, physician .
assistants, home healthcare workers, veterinarians, and veterinary .
technicians. .
