PR advice for local

Getting your message right post Covid-19

It remains a worrying time for businesses as the fight times of crisis – by massively increasing the price of a

strategy is essential in times of crisis. PR consultants loyal to them when normality resumes.
Melanie Hill, of Gravity PR, from Brighouse, and Alex
Mason, of Alex D Mason PR, have put together their
five top tips to help local businesses navigate their
way through the situation from a communications
point of view.

1.   Always be honest. People understand that things
are difficult at the moment because everyone is in
the same boat, so don’t try to sugar-coat things and
claim that everything is fine and it’s business as usual
because odds on, it isn’t. The majority of businesses
will have had to make at least some amendments
to how they generally operate, and customers
understand this.

2.   Keep regular lines of communication open with
your staff. If you are a business owner or managing
director, then you should be the one delivering
messages to your team as its leader. Video calls
have become a great way for teams to get together
virtually and that face to face contact can really help
to stem feelings of isolation. Besides, people like
hearing important news, good or bad, while looking
at someone’s face rather than via an email, which can
sometimes appear cold.

3.    If you can’t get your usual stock or products/
components that you need for your business, then be
open and honest about it with your customers. Explain
the situation and how you are adapting operations to
mitigate the impact.

4.    Keep in touch with other businesses. This can You can find Mel and Alex on social media - Twitter

Creating One Community

FTOOUWNNDAHTAILOLN The Town Hall Foundation is the charitable arm of Town Hall Dental, focused
BRIGHOUSE on the mission of providing oral healthcare treatments and oral health
education for those who need it the most.

Our oral healthcare is predominantly focused on the homeless, ex-homeless and
isolated. Poor dental hygiene is one of the greatest issues affecting these groups,
and our treatments help to build confidence and mental wellbeing, increasing
their ability to find employment.

Focus4Hope is a local community group founded in September 2016.
Our work involves fundraising events for the local homeless, elderly and
isolated in West Yorkshire.

Whilst combating isolation and loneliness is the focus of many of our local events,
we also provide outreach to help the homeless in Leeds city centre, collect
donations for the refugee crisis and volunteer in Northern France alongside
Care4Calais, Help Refugees and Refugee Community Kitchen.

Focus4Success offers various services for individuals looking for work.
These individuals may be referred to us by a number of different partners,
including the job centre, or our sister non-profit organisations.

Our work takes an holistic approach to combat isolation and loneliness
within our community, encompassing numerous specialities, education and
skill developments all geared towards ensuring our clients are capable of
being employed.

The Shah Walayat Foundation is a inter-faith community organisation
based in Halifax, providing a centre for everyone in Calderdale.

Our work includes helping those in poverty, providing a safe space for young
members of the community and a cultural and religious centre, opening in
early 2021.
Working together to build a vision, to tackle inequality, develop a positive
community spirit and to support diversity.

Blooming Boundary
Many roses can be grown as hedging and look stunning,

Hurdles
Hazel hurdles are popular for a rustic look. They can be
bought as ready-made panels or a hurdle maker can
construct the fence in situ. They usually have one pale
face where the hazel stems have been split to reveal
their woody insides, whilst the other face is darker and
still bark-covered. A good filter for wind in a gusty site,
their disadvantage is that they are not long lasting.

Dry Stone Walls
A truly classic look, dry stone walling is a specialist skill

perhaps around the edge of a raised bed or to create

Sempervivums or houseleeks can be grown in gaps
between the stones.
