Powtoon Instruction Manual
1. To get started, click “Sign Up” on the Powtoon home page. You will receive an email to validate
your account. If you already have an account with Powtoon, click “Login”.
2. Once you have entered your account information, select “Create” to start a new presentation.
3. Next, you can choose one of many templates for your presentation, or you can modify a presentation
that has already been created. For this tutorial, we will create a presentation from scratch with the
“Picto” template. Please be patient, as the application may take a while to load.
4. If this is your first time creating a presentation, you will immediately be prompted to follow the
tutorial. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to create your first animation.
5. Once you have completed the short tutorial, you will be redirected to this screen.

appear in the middle
of the slide.
8. Now that you have added a figure to your presentation, you can change its pose, replace it with
another figure, modify the animation settings, and flip the figure vertically by using the buttons to the
left of the figure.
9. To prepare your figure for animation, click the blue bubble containing your figure below the time bar
at the bottom of the window (the animation settings will disappear every time you preview your
presentation).
10. You can change the direction from which your figure enters and exits the screen. Select the arrow in
the time bar and choose a direction.
11. You can also change how long your figure stays in the slide. As of now, the figure enters 2 seconds
after the presentation starts. Drag the bar next to the arrow to modify the figure's entrance time. Use the
red slider to change your viewing position in the slide.
12. Next, refer to the right-hand toolbar to add a shape. If you are looking for something specific, you
can type it into the search bar. Click on the shape you wish to use. You can resize and move your shape
wherever you would like.
If you want to delete any shapes or figures in your slide, right-click on the object and select “Delete” or
press the “Delete” key on your keyboard. Accidentally deleted the wrong thing? Press the “Undo”
button at the top of the screen. Decided you actually liked your change? Press the “Redo” button. Don't
forget to save regularly!
13. Now add some text to your presentation from the right-hand bar. You can insert a title, a sub-title, or
regular text. For now, select “Further information”.
14. A text box will appear in the middle of the slide. You can move your text wherever you'd like. To
edit the text, click on it so it is highlighted in blue. You can then change the text size, colour, font, and
more.
15. Note that you can also change when your figure and text appear in your slide. Right now, the
speech bubble appears 3 seconds in, and the text appears 4 seconds in. This can be modified by
selecting the blue speech bubble button below the time bar at the bottom of your screen and then
dragging the four arrows to a different position, much as you did with the figure in step #11. The same
can be done with the text by clicking the blue text bubble beneath the time bar.
16. Now that you're more Powtoon-savvy, it's time to add more slides. Press the “+” button in the left-
hand toolbar to add more slides, and the “-” button to delete them. To duplicate a slide, right-click on
the slide in the left toolbar and press “Duplicate slide”, or press the “Duplicate slide” button in the
upper-left-hand corner. Duplicating a slide will copy everything, including figures and animations, to a
new slide.
16.1 Select “Clone Objects to new slide” to carry over all your shapes, text, and figures into a
new slide. However, animations will be reset, but they can be modified easily. After you clone your
slide, go to slide #2 and select the blue bubble containing the number “3” beneath the time bar at the
bottom of the screen – this is a group of objects. A green folder icon will appear in the bar.
16.2 Hovering over the blue speech bubble group beneath the time bar will expand a new menu
containing all of the objects in your slide. Select the stick figure.
16.3 Now you can change the duration of the figure's presence in the slide. Similarly to step #11, drag
the bar to a different position.
The same can be done with the other shapes and text. You can delete any of the objects, if you wish.
The text will not be necessary – in slide #2, select the text box and press “Delete” on your keyboard.
Again, you can always click the “undo” button if you make a mistake. And don't forget to save!
17. Now it's time to add another figure to your presentation. Select one from the right-hand toolbar and
it will appear in the slide.
18. It's time to change the words in your first figure's speech bubble. Since you deleted the first text box
in step #16.4, insert new text from the right-hand toolbar and move it into the speech bubble.
19. You can modify the duration of the text's presence in the time bar at the bottom.
20. Let your second figure interact with the first. Add another speech bubble and text.
21. To preview your presentation, click the “Preview” button at the top of the screen. If you are
satisfied with your presentation, press “Export”. You will then have the option to download your
presentation or upload it to a number of video-sharing sites.
