WELCOME

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change
the world" Nelson Mandela

Education is uniquely and powerfully transformative, can drive
communities, economies and industries to great heights .... yet many
young people are denied access due to lack of funding.  The British
American Foundation of Texas (BAFTX) seeks to level this playing field so
that young, gifted and ambitious people from underprivileged
backgrounds may receive the education they need to achieve their
potential, for the good of us all.

BAFTX was founded in 2006 by Susan Howard, Julie Harris and Tim Horner,
then Vice President and subsequently President of British American
Business Council of Houston.  Susan then led BAFTX for 9 years with
dedication and passion, shaping the organization and making it a great
success.

We are proud to build on Susan's work and as we do, our students are a
constant inspiration to us and a reminder of the epic work still to be done
in access to higher education.  None of our scholarships would be possible
without our generous benefactors, supporting our events and capital
campaigns, believing in the value of our work and the achievements of
BAFTX scholars.  We are infinitely grateful, not only for donations, but also
the trust our donors place in us to ensure scholarships are awarded to the
most deserving.

2017 was a great year for BAFTX and ended with a very successful Starry
Knight gala. We kicked off 2018 with our annual Wine Women and Song
event, followed by a Royal Wedding party for 200 guests on May 19 at
Royal Oaks Country Club, which created quite a stir, including live TV
coverage. Donors were invited to our 11th annual Awards Ceremony in
April 2018 to meet with their scholars and present awards as well as hear
an inspiring speech by Jesús Terrones of Cameron.

Looking to 2019, BAFTX is hosting another Wine Women and Song, which
gets bigger and better each year, and another gala, which will take
place at the brand new and super glamorous Post Oak Hotel in Houston.

We are looking forward to another year of great events and impressive
scholarship applications, supported by our donors and volunteers, helping
our scholars access education, fulfill their potential and change the world.

Kay Thomson, Executive Director

MISSION

The Foundation was established by the British American Business
Council of Houston as a beacon going forward into the future, to light
an awareness of the opportunities available culturally and to affirm a
commitment to the academically gifted, yet financially disadvantaged
youth of today, encouraging them to become our global leaders of
tomorrow.

The scholarships will be awarded at various increments and programs
to finance aspiring middle school, high school, undergraduate and
postgraduate students. We will also be focusing on funding young
adults who may require re-education, post traumatic recovery or
provide aid to continue education during long term illness.

BAFTX will provide opportunities to excel here in Texas, or to attain
global education, with exchanges between the UK and USA
educational institutions of excellence. For many, travel broadens their
minds and horizons and solidifies the existence of a world that is
waiting for them beyond the realms of the school bus perimeter.

The primary focus will be in the field of Science and Technology and
International Business.

With the generous support of people like you and the BABC, BAFTX will
strive to finance these bright, hard-working students that are hindered
in reaching their potential through lack of funding, supporting them in
their endeavors and attaining their goals without the added worry of
financial constraints.
