"To light an awareness of the opportunities available culturally and to affirm a
commitment to the academically gifted, yet financially disadvantaged youth of

today, encouraging them to become our global leaders of tomorrow."

MISSION

The Foundation was established by the British American Business Council of
Texas as a beacon going forward into the future, to light an awareness of the
opportunities available culturally and to affirm a commitment to the
academically gifted, yet financially disadvantaged youth of today, encouraging
them to become our global leaders of tomorrow.

The scholarships are awarded at various increments and programs to finance
aspiring middle school, high school, undergraduate and postgraduate students.
We also focus on funding young adults who may require re-education, post
traumatic recovery or provide aid to continue education during long term
illness.

BAFTX will provide opportunities to excel here in Texas or to attain global
education, with exchanges between UK and USA educational institutions of
excellence. For many, travel broadens their mind and horizons and solidifies
the existence of a world that is waiting for them beyond the realms of the
school bus perimeter.

The primary focus will be in the fields of STEM and Business.

With the generous support of people like you, BAFTX strives to finance these
bright, hard-working students who are hindered in reaching their potential
through lack of funding, supporting them in their endeavors and attaining their
goals without the added worry of financial constraints.

WELCOME

Founded in 2006 by the British American Business Council of Houston and
subsequently built up with determination and passion by Susan Howard for 9
years until 2016, the British American Foundation of Texas 501(c)(3) has, to this
day, supported nearly 700 young people in fulfilling their potential, awarding
nearly $1.2 million in scholarships.

Each year at BAFTX, the main focus is on fundraising, without which we are
unable to function. But equally important is raising awareness of our scholarship
opportunities among students in Texas. We owe it to our benefactors to ensure
that their funds are distributed to those who need them most. We spent more
time this year speaking with students, counsellors, teachers and advisors to
spread the word about BAFTX. And the results of our efforts are telling. This year,
we received 98 valid applications for just 6 places on our Junior Achiever program
in the UK, making the acceptance rate 6.1%. Yale accepts 6.3% of applicants and
MIT 7.9%. Just as revealing were application levels for STEM and business
undergraduate scholarships. We funded 30 undergraduate scholarships from a
total of 111 valid applications this year.

Our statistics show the vast unmet need for funding of STEM and business
students in Texas. These are our future engineers, scientists, researchers and
leaders in a position where they cannot access education due to their financial
situation. We need to continue to ensure that the next generation is educated,
able to fulfill their potential and help push forward our industries and economies.

To this end, we are looking forward to our black tie gala on November 16th 2019
and another brilliant Wine Women and Song in March 2020. The proceeds from
these events will support more students like those featured in this brochure.

BAFTX also launched its Global Leaders of Tomorrow campaign this year, with
the aim of accelerating our growth and raising a minimum of $300,000 over 5
years to fund extra places on our Junior Achiever program and a new Women in
STEM scholarship. Response has been very positive and we will reach our target.

Thank you to all our benefactors, board members, supporters, alumni and friends,
without whom none of this would be possible. You are making a difference.

Kay Thomson, Executive Director

OUR JUNIOR ACHIEVER PROGRAM

Life changing, horizon widening,
ambition expanding, this program

shows students what they are
capable of ... and pushes them to

rise to the challenge of top
colleges and beyond.

"Before the trip, I didn't believe I had that in me. And before the

trip, I was even scared that my dreams of going to a college
out of state, out there alone, I would fail to survive.

Yet, this trip proved me wrong.

That I can be totally self-sustainable, be totally
confident and engage other souls around me."
Ngoc, Junior Achiever 2018, Smith College, Class of 2023

"I have learned that I have the ability
to conquer and achieve anything I want.

I learned that limitations are figments of our
own insecurities, that I can go above and beyond to

achieve the impossible ."
Diana, Junior Achiever 2018, Brown University, Class of 2023
