ANNUAL REPORT w w w.b a f t x.o r g [email protected] 202 3
Education To help facilitate a college education for academically excellent, but financially challenged students through scholarships to ultimately benefit themselves, their families and their communities. Opportunity To provide unique and impactful educational and cultural learning opportunities that are life-changing for underserved students. Partnership To work together with industry leaders, academic partners, donors, non-profits and students to create a sustainable and positive cycle of momentum through education. VALUES BAFTX enables financially challenged, Texas-based students who excel academically to fulfil their exceptional potential by supporting their US college education. We also provide a unique student learning experience in the UK, giving an early opportunity to broaden perspective and personal vision. Together these support their aspirations to become leaders in their chosen fields, changing their lives and communities by increasing access to education and meeting the needs of tomorrow’s STEM and business workforce. MISSION BAFTX principles "As a first-generation student, it’s hard to think that you are worth it, thank you for telling me that I am worth it." Alexandra Deras Diaz, Spindletop Women in stem scholar 2023, neuroscience at Texas A&M University 2
Most of our fundraising comes from events including our annual gala, which raised a record-breaking $590,000 net in 2022. We also hosted a Coronation Watch Party and Brunch in May 2022 and welcomed new corporate partners to BAFTX. We are looking forward to more growth, more scholarships, more fundraising and more investment in this essential cause and have nothing but admiration for our scholars and gratitude for our benefactors. Together we are transforming lives and changing the world. Kay Thomson, Executive Director WELCOME The British American Foundation of Texas was founded in 2006 with the mission of offering college scholarships and academic opportunities to academically strong young people from low-income households in Texas and the UK. To date, we have awarded $2.16M in funding to over 1,000 scholars who are breaking barriers across the board. Our scholars are impressive and inspiring, truly the next generation of talent in STEM and business. They are our future engineers, analysts, technologists, entrepreneurs and leaders who will drive forward our industries and economy. It's thanks to our benefactors that we can invest in these brilliant young people, enabling them to fulfil their potential. 3
