Junior Achievers
This scholarship awards underserved High School Juniors a 2 week program in the
UK before their Senior year. While this British Studies Summer Program provided by
ACS International Schools offers first hand learning about British culture, history,
society, art and politics, the advantages run much deeper.
Our Junior Achievers are often first generation college students. With no precedent
or blueprint to follow, these Ivy-League material students often aim to attend a state
college or university. They don’t realize that they are capable of so much more, that
they should dream bigger. This program gives students a chance to re-examine their
own sense of purpose, become more self-confident, more independent, develop
greater self-esteem and have greater trust in their skills and abilities. Following two
weeks in the UK, our High School Juniors return to the United States more confident
and willing to step out of their comfort zones by applying for and being accepted into
Harvard, Brown, Smith, Georgetown and more.
The Junior Achiever program did not operate in 2021 due to COVID-19 so the 10
students awarded that year traveled in 2022, along with 10 scholars selected in
2022, a total of 20 scholars traveling together.
This is all possible thanks to our generous benefactors - ACS International Schools,
Jennifer & Benjamin Fink, H-E-B, Tim Horner, Kevin Howard MBE in memory of
Susan Howard, Martin Hunt, Pat and Kevin Mitchell and Dawn Schierer Yeung.
"[This program] allowed me to acknowledge and seize every
opportunity that’s opened up to me and as for my ambitions, it’s
taught me to work hard for everything I strive for and to
appreciate the journey."
