Gallery Picture this: on September 18, 2023, the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) hosted a down-to-earth CSR event that’s still making waves. Together with local buddies, they put smiles on the faces of Myanmar refugee kids, and boy, was it a blast! The highlight? A splashing good time at the pool, where the kids let loose, played like there was no tomorrow, and had us all grinning ear to ear. For most of them, this was pure gold, a simple joy. Then came the grub – a scrumptious charity lunch. The young ones dug into meals made with love, filling not just their tummies but their hearts too. And to top it all off, they had some epic post-lunch games. KLGCC’s devotion to doing good shone bright, reminding us all of the magic that happens when kindness and community come together. Despite the unexpected rain, the Alliance Durian Party at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club proved to be an unforgettable evening of joy and camaraderie. The weather may have dampened the ground, but it couldn’t dampen the spirits of the guests who gathered for this unique celebration. As the raindrops gently fell, attendees huddled under the grand canopy, sharing laughter and stories, making new friends, and savouring the distinct aroma of fresh durians. The KLGCC team played their part beautifully, offering a sumptuous buffet at the poolside that perfectly complemented the durian feast. The Alliance Durian Party at KLGCC proved that a little rain can’t extinguish the warmth of community and the love for durians. The poolside venue, paired with the delectable buffet, highlighted KLGCC as an exceptional event destination that truly shines even on a rainy night. YOGA FOR GOLFERS What do Rory McIlroy, Natalie Gulbis, Dustin Johnson and Christina Stockton have in common? Each of these professional golfers have a yoga practice to help enhance their golf performance Yoga is a very versatile practice that can be adjusted to offer benefits to everyone. Especially for golfers it can improve their practice. In one study which looked into the effect yoga has for golfers it was found that pelvic rotation increased for those in the group practicing yoga compared to the control group who doesn’t, making the swing more powerful for these golfers (Graeme, et al) Why should golfers do yoga again? Basically yoga will help build your endurance. Yoga requires that you sustain certain positions for a period of time. This practice will build your endurance. Better endurance will allow you to perform better over a longer period of time on the course. Practicing yoga will also help you gain a better range of movement in your joints. If you have been practicing yoga you would already know we do a lot of spinal twists and hip opening which helps with your hip rotation. Here are just some of the awesome benefits you can gain by practicing yoga Increased flexibility As you practice your asanas (poses) your tight muscles will loosen up. Better flexibility will allow for a better full range of movement which in turn will give you a more powerful swing. The more you practice yoga to improve mobility and rotation of the hips, the better and more controlled your swings will be (Capouya, 2003) Increased mobility Mobility and flexibility are very important when golfing. When you swing a golf club the particular movement is important so you have enough force behind your swing without hurting yourself. Therefore having flexibility in the torso and upper back is very helpful here. Improved focus Yoga teaches you breathing exercises which can improve your concentration and let you focus on your game. As with any other games you play and personally for me, even just participating in a fitness class like Pilates I find that if you focus on it, you’ll get the maximum benefit it should bring Increased stability Balance is very important when golfing. Yoga includes several exercises which will help you improve your stability like the tree pose, dancer’s pose and warrior III for example. Since stability and balance go hand in hand in yoga practice, it will help you to have a better centre of gravity which will help you with your golf swing Improved strength Yoga can improve your strength needed to hit that ball far across the fairway. It’s almost like resistance training with a weight lifting exercise without using weights. It develops your core strength which will improve your golf swing in the long run If these benefits are not convincing enough for you to take up yoga to improve your golf swings and ultimately your golf game, just think of GOAT Tiger Woods who credited his impressive golf swings and ability to perform under pressure to incorporating yoga into one of his routines When is the best time to do yoga for golfers? It is safe to practice yoga right before playing to warm up the muscles. For recovery or cool down if you are sore after a game you can also do yoga right after playing to allow the body time to rest and recover while releasing sore muscles Alternatively you are always welcomed to join any of our yoga classes at Drink Hut1, East Course on your non-golfing days Just remember yoga improves a person’s golf game by optimizing their physical and mental performances. Try it to give you a greater overall fitness and for you to enjoy your game more Datin Dr Norazlin Mokhtar G&A Fitness,KLGCC
