It provides education through performing arts, various forms of learning activities initiated by children and youth, changing and permanent exhibitions and a cultural library.

3 ประวัติความเป็นมา ESTABLISHMENT On 19 July 1983 the Cabinet passed a resolution giving authority to the Ministry of Education to establish a cultural centre as an activity to celebrate the sixtieth birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great. The government of Japan contributed grant for 6,385 millions Yen for construction and equipment. Thai government was responsible for the construction site, infrastructure and operational budgeting. คณะรัฐมนตรีมีมติเมื่อวันที่ ๑๙ กรกฎาคม ๒๕๒๖ ให้กระทรวงศึกษาธิการรับผิดชอบในการด�ำเนินการ จัดตั้งศูนย์วัฒนธรรมแห่งประเทศไทย เพื่อร่วม เฉลิมฉลองในวโรกาสที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระบรม ชนกาธิเบศรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดชมหาราช บรมนาถบพิตร ทรงเจริญพระชนมายุครบ ๕ รอบ ในปีพุทธศักราช ๒๕๓๐ โดยรัฐบาลญี่ปุ่นเป็นผู้ให้ความช่วยเหลือในรูป ของการให้เปล่า ในด้านการก่อสร้างและการจัดหา อุปกรณ์ คิดเป็นมูลค่าประมาณ ๖๓๘ ล้านบาท รัฐบาลไทยรับผิดชอบในเรื่องจัดเตรียมที่ดิน ส�ำหรับ การก่อสร้าง จัดสาธารณูปโภค และงบประมาณ ในการด�ำเนินงานต่อไป ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมแห่งประเทศไทย • Thailand Cultural Centre Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously laid the Foundation Stone of the Centre on 1 April 1985 and bestowed the name Thailand Cultural Centre on this new cultural institution. On October 9, 1987 His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great graciously presided over the grand opening ceremony of the Thailand Cultural Centre. Major stage consists of 2 elevated minor stages with the sizes of 12.00 meters x 3.60 meters and 2.70 meters x 1.80 meters respectively. Equipment: The Main Hall stage is equipped with hand operated and motorized curtains, tabs, borders and a system of sound reflecting panels for the concert shell. The modular stage lighting system is reprogrammable under microprocessor control. A 2,000 square meters multi-function hall designed for maximum flexibility. Both the stage and audience seating may be arranged in several configurations for drama and recitals, or may be removed entirely for exhibitions and banquets. Wireless transmission equipment also enables this hall to be used in multi-lingual presentations. Seating: Main seating is in the form of a roll-back stand which extends in two stages of 240 seats. With 192 additional chairs for a total of 432 seats. Proscenium: The fixed proscenium size is 12.00 meters in width x 6.00 meters in height x 6.00 meters in depth. Equipment: The small Hall is well equipped with lighting, sound and projection equipment similar to, and interchangeable with the Main Hall. เวทีและลานกลางแจ้ง • Multi-purpose Plaza Located mid-way between Small and Main auditorium, it has an area of 2,000 square meters.
