FOREWORD

2018 has brought in some stability to the overall Marine Industry after a difficult 2 years
marked by disappearance of some big names and new entities being formed.

While the Liner Industry is still oversized for the demand and suffering from low rates,
there is positive news from other sectors with demand and price of commodities going up and
taking off some red ink from bulk and Oil businesses.

We have won new businesses under some of our Verticals which is
showing up in our performance compared to last year. We have done
some serious work on quoting for offshore projects. While there has
been limited success so far, we are confident of winning a major bid
sooner than later and working towards that.

Our transition to GST is complete with serious work done by all
departments under the guidance of Finance team since it required a
new way of thinking with respect to billing of principals.

It is a matter of pride that our Finance and HSEQ team has
supported some of group offices in other Countries in implementing New Accounting and
Quality Processes.

In a fast-changing world, it becomes imperative that we have a long-term vision as a
company but also fine tune our approach to the business constantly in a world which is
changing rapidly.
As a group, new key persons are being added at Singapore to look at new possibilities beyond
our current bouquet of activities in the marine field.

I welcome all new joinees while wishing the best of luck to staff who have moved on to other
career options.

My best wishes to the newly married couples and to the happy parents with their new born
bundle of joy!!

As we go into a season of festivities in India, I wish everyone happiness and peace.

Mumbai-Goa cruise passenger ferry ‘Angriya’

The ship is a 20-year-old Japanese cruise vessel, previously named
“Ogasa” and now renamed “Angriya” after Kanoji Angrey, the first
admiral of the Maratha Navy.
The cruise ferry will be operated by Sea Eagle Cruises and the local
shipping agent for the vessel will be Ben Line Agencies (India) Pvt
Ltd.
The Mumbai to Goa luxury cruise ferry will have a capacity of
around 350 passengers and expected to begin from the first week of October this year. During the

monsoon, the ship will not operate along this route. Instead, it will serve as a floating hotel in Mumbai,
while in the off-season, it will be rented out for weddings and other celebrations.

The duration of the Mumbai-Goa journey will be approximately 15 hours and the cruise ferry will depart on
alternate days at around 5 pm from both destinations and arrive by 9.30 am the following day.
There are seven categories of bookings, with the minimum fare starting at Rs. 7,500 per person, which
includes two meals and brunch onboard. Apart from a swimming pool, a lounge and recreation room, the
vessel has round-the-clock restaurants and coffee shops.

Considering this is a luxury cruise for people who truly want to experience the Arabian Sea, there are high
hopes that it will again revive the busy route that was so active during the 60’s and 90’s.

CONCOR substantially increases free time for loaded & empty containers at its terminals

The Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has announced the facilitation of free warehousing for
containers to the trade at its terminals across the country. The massive increase in free time, i.e. 45 days and
90 days for loaded and empty containers, respectively, has become effective from September 1, 2018.
This is applicable to the import-export trade, shipping lines and other stakeholders.

This initiative will reduce requirement of warehousing at
separate locations and do away with the need of
secondary transportation to warehousing and empty
yards. It will also reduce multiple handling and
transportation.
It added that the measure will lead to re-examining and
re-engineering of the transportation and warehousing
needs by reducing infructuous logistics legs and
substantially reducing the cost and time of ex-im trade.

Maersk Line steps up on digitisation to enable paperless trade between India & Nepal

First shipping line to deploy ECTS to facilitate trade to Nepal transhipping from
Visakha Container Terminal (VCT) to ICD Birgunj.

P a g e | 10

Maersk, has announced the deployment of Electronic Cargo Tracking System or ECTS to enable paperless
trade between India and Nepal. It is the first liner to adopt this paperless mode of trade against the
conventional one-time bottle seal. This is also the first time it has been done at an Indian port, transhipping to
other countries such as Nepal, thus getting rid of documentation hurdles.

Last year, Maersk Line moved the first-ever container shipment from Visakhapatnam to an Inland Container
Depot (ICD) at Birgunj in Southern Nepal via the ‘Kathmandu Express’, an exclusive block train service with a
guaranteed fixed transit time. Customers then had dependency on physical document and confirmation post-
discharge, increasing the transit time and laden ground rent.

This system will effectively be replaced by the ECTS. The new system will be documentation-free, doing away
with complex letter of credit verification process and replaced with a replica of SMTP process followed for
ICD movements inside India. Additionally, the electronic seals shall be allotted to shipping lines to manage the
storage at Visakhapatnam and reverse logistics from international borders.

Currently, 99 per cent of Maersk Line’s bookings are done online, while 97 per cent of the shipping
instructions are issued online. This transhipment modality will be powered by GPS-enabled sealing with a one-
time seal, which shall report real-time location backed by alarms upon tampering. Only Customs officials will
have the authority to seal and unseal it.

The process has thus been made easier with Maersk Line’s direct product at Visakhapatnam powered by ECTS.

COCHIN TO BUILD NEW CRUISE TERMINAL
Cochin Port Trust has issued a work order for the construction of a new cruise terminal, which will be
operational at Ernakulum Wharf by February 2020.
The terminal, which will cover an area of more than 2,250m2, will include passenger and crew lounges,

immigration and customs clearance facilities, security
check counters, a tourist information facility, duty
free shopping and a cafeteria.
Cochin Cruise Port
In recent years the Ministry of Shipping and Ministry
of Tourism have jointly taken a number of initiatives
to promote cruise tourism in India. This includes the
rationalisation of tariffs for cruise vessels entering
India’s ports and introducing easier visa requirements.
As one of the prime cruise tourism destinations in
India, Cochin has been getting around 40 cruise ship
calls every year, bringing tens of thousands of high net worth international tourists to Kerala. It is estimated
that every cruise tourist spends on an average US$ 400 per day during local visits. Building the new
terminal is expected to further strengthen this fast-growing business, generating economic benefits for the
region.

P a g e | 13

Currently cruise vessels up to 260m in length are handled at the BTP berth and Samudrika, the cruise
passenger facilitation centre. However, vessels over 260m are handled at Ernakulum Wharf, and this is the
reason that the new cruise terminal will be built here, the Trust says.

ONGC finds oil, gas reserves in MP, WB; to open 2 new basins in India

ONGC has made oil and gas discoveries in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal that may potentially open two
new sedimentary basins in the country, the firm's director for exploration has said. ONGC had previously
opened six out of India's seven producing basins for commercial production. It is in the process of adding
the eighth by putting Kutch offshore on the oil and gas map of India. "The seventh basin was opened way
back in 1985. We are looking at adding three more basins in next five years’ time," ONGC Director
(Exploration) Ajay Kumar Dwivedi said.

Now, the firm would go for appraisal of the find, only after which commercially exploitable reserves could
be established. Dwivedi said the company is on the way to putting the Kutch offshore discovery to
production. This would make Kutch India's eighth sedimentary basin. Cauvery was the last Category-I
producing basin which was discovered in 1985. ONGC had made a significant natural gas discovery in the
Gulf of Kutch off the west coast a few months back, which it plans to bring to production in 2-3 years, he
said.

India has 26 sedimentary basins, of which only seven have commercial production of oil and gas. Except for
the Assam shelf, ONGC opened for commercial production all the other six basins, including Cambay,
Mumbai Offshore, Rajasthan, Krishna Godavari, Cauvery, and Assam-Arakan Fold Belt. The discovery in
Kutch offshore may hold about one trillion cubic feet of gas reserves. The spread of Kutch offshore basin
covers an area of 28,000 square kilometres in water depth of up to 200 meters and will become eighth
producing basin of the country. He, however, said in order to monetise the discoveries in the three new
basins, "a favourable fiscal regime and concessions" are needed.

The 1 ton bagged cargo is re-bagged into 5 kg bags as per the customer requirement. With the help of

skilled labour, machines and expertise the cargo is stuffed into 5 kg bags and then the stitching is done

effectively at the CFS premises itself. To handle such cargo without any pilferage along with meeting the

timelines is quite challenging. However, VCT CFS which has the expertise to handle such cargo along with

bagging and re-bagging, is able to meet the customer needs from time to time efficiently. Once again, VCT

CFS proves to be the “One Stop Shop for all Logistics Solutions” to the trade. Mr. SriramaMurthy,

A very successful partner in a big firm had a peculiar habit. He would go to his desk every day,
open a locked drawer, look inside, lock the drawer again, and start his work. This continued for
many days.
His subordinates knew that he hid the secret of his success in the drawer, they waited for the

opportunity.

Then, one day when he had gone out of the city, the juniors decided to
make a break.

They broke into the drawer, breathlessly, and looked inside. There was one
small piece of paper inside - it said - "Left is debit and right is credit."

How to avoid Android malware

Android is the most popular mobile operating system, which explains why Android-specific malware is
the most common.
On the one hand, this gives Android users a wider selection of apps. On the other hand, it compromises
security because anybody can write an app and distribute it over all sorts of channels, be they app stores,
ads, or discussion boards — you name it. Getting an Android device infected is the easiest thing in the
world. Yet there are also ways to minimize the risk. Here are five basic rules you should follow to avoid

problems.
1. Download apps from Google Play only
Google has an entire department specifically tasked with
checking apps that end up in Google Play. Admittedly,
malware still manages to find its way into the store. Yet
the risk of downloading a malicious app from the official
Google store is much lower compared with any other
source; Google reps filter out the bulk of malware before
it reaches users.
2. Choose apps from trusted developers
A large company with a famous brand takes care not to
distribute malware and tarnish its reputation, which is why it’s safer to download apps from well-known
developers. You can look up the developer’s full name, list of published apps, and contact details in the
extended app description in Google Play Store.
3. Check the rating and read user reviews
A high app rating in the store is a hallmark of a good, helpful, and safe app. You should still adopt a
cautious approach, however: Sometimes fraudsters use Trojans to boost app ratings and publish fake user
reviews.
That’s why a high app rating is not enough. User reviews are another important element. See if they have
been written by real people, not bots. Trojan-generated reviews are most often favourable and simply
worded.
4. Pay attention to permissions the app requests during installation
The system of permissions is an Android protection mechanism that controls how much freedom apps
get. Permissions are used by apps to access specific functions and data (apps can do very little if
permission has not been granted).
Most common dangers involve an app’s ability to collect your data (location, contacts, personal files) and
perform certain operations such as taking photos or recording audio, sending messages, and so forth.
Before installing an app, carefully review the specific permissions it is requesting and evaluate these
requests reasonably, you can also review, grant, or revoke permissions in device settings.

P a g e | 25

5. Use a reliable security solution
Whatever you intend to download, make sure that your device has a reliable security solution.
Before installing an app, ask yourself: Do you really need it? Do you trust its source? Do its permission
requests seem reasonable? If you approach app choice with good common sense and some education on
security issues, you will not have to worry about usability and digital safety.

General Signs of a Malware Infection

There are several signs or symptoms indicating that
your computer is infected. If you have started to
notice weird things happening on your PC, such as:

• Unusual messages, images, or sound signals;
• CD-ROM tray opens and closes voluntary;
• Programs start running without your

command;
• Messages are displayed informing that one of

your programs is attempting to access
Internet without your command.
• Your friends or colleagues tell you about having received emails sent from your email box which
you did not send;
• A lot of messages without a sender address and subject in your mailbox.
• It must be admitted that such signs are not always explained by presence of malware. They may
have some other explanation. For example, the issue with weird emails may be the result of
somebody sending infected emails with your sender address from some other computer, not
necessarily yours.
then it is likely that your computer is infected with malware.

There are also indirect signs of a malware infection on your computer:

• your PC frequently crashes or hangs;
• everything slows down when starting a program;
• operating system does not boot;
• missing or corrupt files and folders;
• excessive hard drive activity (the light on the front of the case flashes frequently);
• something is wrong with Microsoft Internet Explorer (it freezes or does not respond to commands)
In 90% of cases, these indirect signs are caused by incorrect functioning of some hardware or software.
Still, such signs have a little chance of being caused by an infection.

If you experience any signs of this type, it is recommended to:

Install Anti-virus software, update Antivirus Databases and Run the Full Scan Task to eliminate risk.

Taking preventative action now will protect your identity, data, and devices.

Study Shows Plant Protein and Nuts Lower Cholesterol, Improve Blood Pressure!

A new meta-analysis published in the journal Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases finds that a diet that includes
plant protein, fiber, nuts, and plant sterols lowers cholesterol, improves blood pressure, and improves other
markers for cardiovascular disease risk.

The diet is based on the “Portfolio Diet,” which is a plant-based dietary pattern that emphasizes a portfolio of
four proven cholesterol-lowering foods:

✓ 42 grams of nuts (tree nuts or peanuts) per day
✓ 50 grams of plant protein per day from soy products or dietary
pulses (beans, peas, chickpeas, or lentils) per day
✓ 20 grams of viscous soluble fiber per day from oats, barley,
psyllium, eggplant, okra, apples, oranges, or berries
✓ 2 grams of plant sterols per day from supplements or plant-
sterol enriched products

The meta-analysis found that following the dietary pattern reduced
LDL-cholesterol by 17 percent, while also reducing total cholesterol, triglcyerides, systolic blood pressure,
diastolic blood pressure, and C-reactive protein. It also helps reduce 10-year coronary heart disease risk by 13
percent.
“Previous clinical trials and observational studies have found strong evidence that a plant-based diet can
improve heart health,” says study author Hana Kahleova, M.D., Ph.D., director of clinical research for the
Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

ATM SKIMMING

ATM skimming?
ATM skimming is a theft of card information, where a small device, known as a skimmer,
is used to steal the information during a legitimate ATM transaction. As the card is
swiped at the machine, the skimmer device captures the information stored on the card's
magnetic strip.

How is it done?
Thieves place the skimmer on the ATM card swiping mechanism. However, only a skimmer is not enough.
The crooks trying to dupe the people, either place a camera inside the ATM or hack the bank camera to get
to know the ATM pin of the card user. Once the pin is recorded and the card details are stored on the
skimmer, the thieves use it to purchase things online or create cloned cards.
How to spot a skimmer?
Spotting a skimmer is easy. All you need to do is check the ATM machine prior to using it.

The card reader section might be extended than usual on a machine that has been
tampered. If a keypad on the ATM seems to protrude oddly, check the keypad for it
might be a fake.
If the card reader on the machine is loose then try avoiding the machine.
How to avoid being duped?
Cover you ATM keypad whenever you enter the ATM pin.
Register for SMS updates to stay up-to-date with your bank transactions. This will help you get an alert when
a suspicious transaction is done using your card.
What should be done if your ATM details get stolen?

P a g e | 33
The fraud needs to be reported as soon as possible.
For example if you have an account with Bank A and have used the card to withdraw money
from an ATM of Bank B, a complaint should be lodged at Bank A at the earliest possible.
According to the RBI, "longer the time taken to notify the bank, the higher will be the risk
of loss.
Upgrade to Chip Card
A chip card is a standard-size plastic debit or credit card that contains an embedded microchip as well as a
traditional magnetic stripe. The chip encrypts information to help increase data security when making

transactions at terminals or ATMs.
With a magnetic stripe, all your information is coded on it. If a counterfeiter
steals it and copies it, he can use your information over and over. However, the
chip doesn't store your information. Instead, the computer chip creates a unique
transaction ID each time you use it. It uses encryption to securely hide your
personal information, so even if hackers get the ID, it's worthless to them.
If your Card doesn’t have, immediately request your bank to re-issue a New Card with Chip.
