The extent of wind flow is manually controlled by operable glass louvers at the base of the shaft. Provide comfort cooling and natural ventilation. Cross Ventilation In addition to the innovative wind flue chimney, the art house maximizes cross ventilation by having openings at both sides of the gallery, at both the ground and first floor levels. Partial stack ventilation is incorporated at these spaces via low and high openings in the external walls inlets, designed to be as low as possible to provide airflow at occupant levels. Sun Shading All openings and glass windows are shaded using a combination of horizontal and vertical sun shades and concrete hoods. These shading features also serve to reduce glare to the internal space. SECTION X GALLERY 2 BALCONY BEDROOM 3 BEDROOM 2 BEDROOM 1 BATH 1 BATH 2 FIRST FLOOR PLAN Flexible Open Plan Layout The building essentially functions as a multi-purpose gallery space for showing artworks in which the primary gallery areas have open plan layouts as flexible exhibition spaces. Landscape The building’s footprint is kept to a minimum to provide greater land area for planting. The greenery generally reduces the heat island effect on the site and maximizes the potential for shading of the site. The building’s vertical landscape design also creates a direct connection between the internal spaces to the external landscaping .

This area also serves as a connector-space between the building’s internal spaces and the external landscaped areas. The courtyard is shaded from the sun in the afternoon and provides a comfortable microclimate zone within the site. Large Opening The large opening eases sunlight to penetrate into the indoor space so no artificial lights are needed during the day 3 Windows & Shading Despite the amount of windows in the east, they are mere openings; only with the frames without glasses that allow more wind to enter the indoor space. Windows & Shading The small glass window on the west opened to certain angle to allow circle ventilation to happen Wind Chimney The main features in the design which is wind chimney : works to catch wind from all direction and direct them down the shaft to create a proper wind circulation at the indoor space. Sun Shade The sun shade works to block tropical sunlight to reduce radiation and direct heat. Plain Facade Because the win flows from north to south, there are nearly 0 opening on the viewed side so most of the wind can be reflected up and be caught by the wind chimney. 1 2 3 5 4 7 6

Transformation create an innovative, dynamic space in which users have more opportunities to effectively make use of changes in their surrounding environment. It also opens a way to meet environmental needs and even to generate unexpected situations. The element of the art house is horizontal line. Lines applied horizontally often evoke feelings of stability, grounding, emphasis and direction of the art house It also has a connection to the earth. The organization of the art house is grid organization. A grid is usually created by creating by establishing a regular pattern of points that define the intersection of two parallel lines. Projected into the third dimension, the grid can be transformed into a set of repetitive, modular units of space. The ceiling of the art house uses gypsum. It is heat resistance. It has a non-combustible core filled with chemically mixed water The external door of the art house is sliding door. The floor of the art house is using laminated cement. It reduce the brittle properties of the geopolymer concrete is by using lamination method. Sliding door benefits is its better use of space and optimized traffic flow Ganendra art house display is hanging their art to the wall. Hanging the art to the wall. Most of these methods are used in this gallery. It delivers a focal point. When the visitors walk into a room, their eye is automatically drawn to a specific spots

DCA 40115 I DESIGN STUDIO 4 I CASE STUDY TASK 1 : DESKTOP STUDIES 1. SOLAR PANEL SUSTAINABILITY: 2. RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEM Rainwater harvesting system help with storm water retention. This is especially important within an urban landscape, where water that can be captured and held on site will significantly reduce the volume of water discharged to the main drainage system, thus reducing flood risk. Rainwater harvesting systems are energy efficient and environmentally friendly, requiring no chemicals for water treatment. Treatment is done by filtration, as will be explained later in this document. 3. MOVEMENT SENSOR LIGHT They represent a significant energy saving because they only turn on when needed and turn off by themselves when there is no movement. This is especially useful in common areas where too much attention is not paid to turning off lights when not in use. Turning on the lights will be as easy as walking inside the room. No need to search for the switch on the wall. The lighting system will automatically turn off the lights when it does not sense any movement for a certain period of time. 4. SKYLIGHT Skylight at the rooftop landscape brings natural daylight into the gallery. Opening up the skylight allows fresh air to come from all angles, preventing overheating and freshening up the space. An opening skylight also allows you to release any unwanted hot air. A skylight can actually be more effective than a window in reducing room temperature due to the way heat disperses through a space. SABAH ART GALERY FOUNDED BY: DATUK MOHD. YAMAN HJ. AHMAD MUS LOCATION: MILE 2, JALAN PENAMPANG, KOTA KINABALU, SABAH AWARD: SILVER CLASSIFICATION FROM THE GREEN BUILDING INDEX ASSESSMENT PANEL IN 2012 DESIGN CONCEPT The octagonal building plan was inspired by Datuk Yaman’s deep interest in geometric shapes in general as evident in many of his artworks. The geometry also makes for a more user-friendly centralized circulation pattern as requested by Datuk Yaman himself. Even more striking than the building’s plan is its form with the walls that taper outward from the base at an angle of 30 degrees giving the Gallery a most distinctive appearance. By using solar panels, it can reduce the carbon footprint and contribute to mitigating climate change. Solar energy production produces no greenhouse gas emissions, air pollutants, or harmful by-products. 5. GLASS WINDOW Low-E glass has an invisible coating that reflects long-wave infra-red radiations towards the interior of the building. This is the reason why low-E glass can reflect away most of the heat. Thus, low-E glass windows have high energy-efficiency and are capable of good solar control. Generating electricity from solar panels produce no harmful emissions.
