There are a few beaches we could go to. However, I feel the best beach to go to is Rainbow Beach. It is not too far from town. We could take a bus to the beach. We can go swimming, jetskiing, snorkelling and do some kite-flying at the beach. There are also many stalls near the beach. My favourite is the stall that sells seafood. As to what to bring, I suggest you bring a towel, an extra pair of clothes and some sunscreen. Bye! Practice 2 To: [email protected] Subject: Plans for tomorrow Hi, That’s a splendid idea! I suggest we play football. This is because all our neighbours enjoy playing football. Most of them are very good at the game too. We can learn from them on how to improve our game. We can play the game at the field in our neighbourhood. The field is big and it has goalposts. The goalposts however do not have nets. I will bring the nets. Can you bring the football? I have lent my football to a school friend. Bye! Practice 3 To: [email protected] Subject: Sunday plans Hi, What a coincidence! I was about to ask you the same thing. We could go to Sunshine Shopping Mall. We can either take a bus or a taxi there. We could do a lot of things at the mall such as shop, watch a movie, get our hair done or other fun activities. We could also have our lunch at the food court. There are many local and western food stalls there. I think we should invite our classmates, Fiona and Lily. They would love to come. Bye! Practice 4 To: [email protected] Subject: Birthday plans Hi, I cannot wait to celebrate your birthday. We could celebrate it at Malina Restaurant. It is located in town. The food is delicious and they will also provide a free birthday cake. The servers will sing the birthday song for you. They will also do a little dance. Furthermore, there is a karaoke machine at the restaurant. So after our meal, we can sing karaoke. I think a theme is a great idea! We could either have a colour theme or something more fun like a retro or anime theme. Bye! Practice 5 To: [email protected] Subject: Let’s go camping! Hi, Sure, that would be wonderful! The best place to go camping would be by Cinnamon River. We could go there by bus and then hike to the river. I have camped there a few times and it is really enjoyable. We could fish and swim in the river. We could also go jungle trekking and walk up the nearby hill. The view up the hill is breathtaking. At night we can sit by the campfire and tell ghost stories. A few things to bring are tents, mosquito repellent, compass, tinned food and bottled water. Bye! Practice 6 To: [email protected] Subject: Community service Hi, Yes, we should definitely do that. We could go to the Caring Hearts Orphanage. I heard from our Welfare Club advisor, Mr Guna that the orphanage needs help. We could do some simple repair works such as fixing the leaking pipes and patching up the holes in the walls. We could also paint the orphanage and do some gardening. I was thinking we could plant some trees and flowers. We could also bring some preloved books, clothes, food and other needed items to the orphanage. Bye! 01 TEXT BI F5 3P.indd 2 24/2/2023 9:10:41 AM PENERBIT ILMU BAKTI SDN. BHD.
A3 Praktis Topikal SPM English (CEFR) Form 5 KSSM- Answers UNIT 7 Guided Writing Suggested answers Practice 1 My mother will be celebrating her birthday soon. I have been thinking about what to get her and I have finally made my decision. I will get her a branded black leather handbag. Although a leather handbag would be costly, I do not mind buying it as my mother deserves it. She has sacrificed a lot for me and so it is time I did something nice for her. A leather handbag would last long and would look elegant. It is also ecofriendly. It is made of natural material and is biodegradable. At first I wanted to buy the handbag from an online shop. I later found out that a shop in my neighbourhood’s shopping centre was having a sale on leather handbags. I decided to buy from there instead. Apart from selling at a cheaper price, they also have a one-year warranty for the handbag. I hope my mother loves her birthday gift. Practice 2 I have recently been thinking of getting a part-time job as I want to ease my parents’ burden. I think a part-time job that would be suitable for me is working as a sales assistant at a clothes shop. I think I would be good at this job because I have always enjoyed checking out clothes. I am also good at suggesting what clothes are suitable for people. I have often helped my mother and sister with their outfits. Futhermore, I have a pleasant personality and am very patient. Therefore, I think I would be able to handle customers easily. One of my mother’s friends owns a clothes shop in town. She has told me that if I was interested, she would hire me. Although the salary would not be much, she has promised me a good commission. The clothes in her shop are gorgeous so I do not think I will have trouble selling them. Being a shop assistant at a clothes shop would really suit me as I would earn some money and enjoy working there too. Practice 3 The holidays are coming and I would like to go for a trip with my family. My dream destination would be Sabah, the land below the wind. One of the main reasons I would like to visit Sabah is because it is home to Mount Kinabalu. I really would like to see it at least once in my lifetime. It will take two days to hike up the mountain and along the way my family and I will be able to enjoy seeing the flora and fauna. I’m sure the view at the top is breathtaking. We could also spend a few days at any of the islands at Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. We could go snorkelling, diving and ziplining. The Kota Kinabalu town has its own attractions. We could visit the Gaya Street morning market. I heard that we could get all sorts of things there such as batik sarongs, footwear, fruits and flowers, local snack, cakes and others. My family and I could stay in Sabah for a week. I’m sure we would have a wonderful time there. Practice 4 Lately I have been thinking of getting a pet. At first I thought getting a dog as a pet would be a good idea but now I think I would prefer to get a cat. One of the reasons I would like to get a cat is because it is easier to take care of a cat. I do not have to walk it, but it will still keep me company as I’m often alone at home. Cats are also independent creatures and they do not require my attention on them all the time compared to a dog. However, I still get to play with it which would help me destress after a long day. Food, care and treatment for cats are also considerably cheaper. A place I would go to get a cat would be the animal shelter. I feel sorry for the abandoned cats and want to give one of the cats a good home. Practice 5 It is good to play a sport as it can keep one fit and healthy. I think a sport that I would like to take up is swimming. There are many benefits to swimming. One of the benefits is that it works the whole body. Swimming can increase the heart rate without stressing the body, tone the muscles, as well as build strength and endurance. Swimming also strengthens the heart and lungs. Another benefit of swimming is that it will help burn calories and help me lose weight. I often have trouble sleeping at night, therefore it would be good to go swimming. It is a vigorous activity that will tire me out and hopefully help me sleep better. Yet another reason to go swimming is, it will boost my mood and help me to destress. I can go swimming at the swimming pool in the recreation centre not too far from my house. I can go there in the evenings. Practice 6 My school will be organising a talent competition. I plan to take part in the competition and showcase my singing abilities. I have been going for singing classes since I was eight years old. My family and friends say I have quite a good voice. I do have dreams of becoming a professional singer and therefore entering this talent competition will give me the experience of singing in front of an audience. Apart from that, I like to entertain people with my singing. When I see the audience enjoying themselves, it makes me happy. It does not matter if I don’t win as long as I enjoy myself and the audience likes my performance too. I will prepare for the competition by training with my vocal coach, Mrs Jessie. I am sure she will help me choose a suitable song for my voice. I will also have to get a pretty dress. I am really looking forward to the competition. UNIT 8 Extended Writing Suggested answers Practice 1 Question 3 Introduction In your opinion, the community recreation centre is meeting the expectations of the community as a whole.
