A Diagramatic Guide to Writing SPM

47 Sample Article 1 Advantages and Disadvantages of Computers Computers have become a basic necessity for us. We need a computer to do various things and I found it is especially beneficial for students. I feel that it has helped me a lot in doing my assignments. Computer has its own advantages but at the same time, it also has disadvantages. The first advantage is it would help students complete their assignments easier. This is because students can easily do research for their assignments. Not only that, students can also come up with attractive presentations. They can use graphs and illustrations in their presentations by using any software available such as Microsoft PowerPoint and Prezi. Next, computer is a great tool for students to gain new knowledge. By surfing the Internet, students get to increase their knowledge in a lot of topics. They can search for related subjects that are taught in school so that they would have a better understanding in these subjects. They can choose whether to learn by reading or watching educational videos. However, computer also has its drawbacks. Sometimes, when students are surfing the web, pop-ups of X-rated videos and clickbait might appear. This might risk students to be exposed to pornography and their computers can be infected by viruses. They might also get addicted to online games and thus neglect their studies. In conclusion, computer is useful for students in many ways. It is a privilege for the students. So hopefully, they would be careful in using computers and never misuse them. ❶ ❷ ❸ ❹ drawback – a disadvantage clickbait – articles, photographs, etc. on the Internet that are intended to attract attention and encourage people to click on links to particular websites Vocabulary A Diag Writing SPM(Part 3).indd 47 PENERBIT 17/03/2023 4:59 PM ILMU BAKTI SDN. 49 Sample Article 2 Night Market in My Area Night market is very much part of Malaysian life. You will find night markets in every part of the country. The night market near my home is located in Taman Berjaya. It is held in an open area twice a week. Pasar Malam Berjaya usually starts at 4 p.m. and the first people to arrive are the vendors. They come in vans, cars, trucks and even motorcycles to unload their goods. They will then put up and set their stalls, sort their wares and arrange them neatly on makeshift tables. You will be amazed to find the variety of colourful things sold at the night market with reasonable and affordable prices. There are fresh produce at the vegetable and fruit stalls. Fresh fish shimmers on their bed of ice along with fresh meat and chicken. The textile stalls offer trendy and fashionable clothes in every colour. There are also dazzling and shiny beads as well as cute hair accessories available. You will be spoilt for choice. And if you are hungry, there are mouth-watering dishes for you to try such as satay, roasted chicken and cakes. The night market is always crowded with all levels of people. The whole area is illuminated with bright lights and loud music. It is noisy with people either haggling or selling products. It is indeed a carnival atmosphere. After 10 p.m., the crowd starts to dwindle. Slowly makeshift stalls are dismantled and the area which was bustling with activities is now back to normal. ❶ ❷ ❸ ❹ spoilt for choice – have so many options to the point it is difficult to choose mouth-watering – smelling and looking delicious haggle – bargain persistently Vocabulary A Diag Writing SPM(Part 3).indd 49 PENERBIT 17/03/2023 4:59 PM ILMU BAKTI SDN. 51 Sample Article 3 Dirty Eateries People eating at dirty eateries are putting their health at risk. Let us examine what a dirty eatery is, the ill-effects of eating in such places and how we can help improve the situation. Dirty eateries are places where food is cooked and served in unhygienic conditions such as dirty floor, unkempt waiters and dirty sinks. Disease carriers like rats, cockroaches and flies flourish in such filthy surroundings where excess food is also thrown away indiscriminately. While the conditions of the eateries may be less than perfect, people still eat in such places mostly because the food is palatable and cheap. They fail to realise the danger which it can lead to severe food poisoning or gut crunching diseases when they consume contaminated food. Contracting rat urine disease or leptospirosis for example can ultimately lead to death. Despite constant reminders from the authorities to maintain cleanliness, some eatery operators remain ignorant or worst, nonchalant when it comes to hygiene. As long as there are people patronising their eateries, they feel they do not need to worry too much about hygiene and cleanliness. Therefore, authorities should come down hard on such places and issue close orders. This is the best way to handle such irresponsible eatery operators as a hit to the pocket is often a good wake-up call. Patrons also should not tolerate dirty eateries. In conclusion, if both the relevant authorities and patrons play their part well, itshould be a good wake-up call to these irresponsible eatery operators. ❶ ❷ ❸ ❹ palatable – pleasant taste nonchalant – indifferent, no display of interest a hit to the pocket – losing money Vocabulary A Diag Writing SPM(Part 3).indd 51 PENERBIT 17/03/2023 4:59 PM ILMU BAKTI SDN.
