It was based on a Shakespeare play. The actors played their roles very well. They spoke clearly and no one forgot their lines. They played their comedic roles well because the audience was laughing throughout the play. The plot was easy to follow. The costume department did a good job because the costumes were great. There weren’t a lot of props and the backdrop was simple. The 50-minute play was well produced and a success. I rate it 7.5 out of 10. Akmal The Drama Club staged a play based on a mystery. It was held on Saturday at 3 p.m. It was 90 minutes long but there was a 15-minute intermission. I think it was a little long and some scenes did not help move the story along. The three main characters were a stand out. They acted well and their expressions and gestures were good. The painted backdrop of different rooms in a house were beautifully done. The unexpected ending surprised the audience. It earned the actors a big applause. Even though it was a little long, I enjoyed it. I rate it 8 out of 10. Vincent The Music Club and Drama Society worked together to stage the school’s first ever musical. This production took three months to produce. It was held at the school hall on Saturday at 5 p.m. The actors sang and danced very well. It was clear that they practised long and hard. They were confident and comfortable on stage. The story flowed well. The costumes and props were simple. The musical was entertaining and 80 minutes flew by quickly. I rate the musical 8.5 out of 10. Every day, they moaned about how poor they were but they never worked to help themselves. One night, an old man came to their house. He looked tired, so the couple invited him in. He thanked them and said, “Could I have some food, please?” The woman said, “I’m sorry but we don’t have any food.” “You’re very poor indeed. Would you like to be rich?” the old man said. The couple answered at the same time, “Yes!” “See this; it’s a magic pouch,” he said. “Tomorrow, I want you to scatter what’s inside in your large field. One day, you’ll be rich.” The following morning, the man gave the pouch to the couple and left. The couple was excited and the man said, “There must be gold coins.” They looked inside but sighed and looked at each other sadly because there were only grains. But, they decided to scatter the grains anyway. After some time, the grains sprouted. As time passed, the plants grew bigger. When the husk-covered grains turned golden, they harvested the plants. After two planting seasons, they even had some money saved and lived a simple but comfortable life. One night, there was a knock on the door. The woman opened it and immediately recognised the old man. She invited him in and offered him a meal. “Thank you for the grains,” said the man. And the woman said, “You gave us the gift of hard work and it has changed our lives.” Kuasai PBD Eng Y6(U8).indd 59 04/10/2023 3:12 PM

LS 3.2.1 Do Food Adverts Tell the Truth? I don’t think they do. For example,[B3]the burger we see in an advert doesn’t look anything like what they serve us. The vegetables aren’t fresh and crisp. The burger patty isn’t juicy. It’s disappointing when I don’t get what I pay for. Lissa70 Not at all! Just look at the breakfast cereals. The food manufacturers say they are good breakfast food. When I looked at the nutritional label, I’m[B4]shocked at the amount of sugar they contain. Mikey96 To be honest, they can’t tell the whole truth. No one will buy their products. They don’t give the exact amount of fat in the food item. For instance, one yogurt brand said it was low-fat but when I looked at the tiny food label, it had over 11 g of fat. That’s a lot! Kamil03 Food manufacturers use catchy phrases such as ‘Everyone’s favourite snack’, ‘Best school lunch’ or ‘Wholesome meal’ and we believe them because they look good. But these food items have a lot of sugar, salt and even fat. How are these healthy food choices? Ajay99 The adverts don’t portray the actual portions either.[B2]They promise big portions but that’s not what we get. You’d expect a box of cereal or packet of crisps to be nearly full but they aren’t. Omar21 [B1] [B5] Kuasai PBD Eng Y6(U9).indd 66 04/10/2023 3:12 PM

I think it’s important that students have access to the latest technology in classrooms to make learning fun. Kuasai PBD Eng Y6(U9).indd 71 04/10/2023 3:12 PM

There are many reasons that support this motion. To begin, when you explain a topic to group members, you actually recall facts and understand the topic even better . Second, pupils can refer to other members if they don’t understand a topic. Sometimes it’s easier to learn from a peer. Third, group members can share tasks to make study aids such as mind maps or flashcards. They save time and make good study notes when they work together and share ideas. . For all the reasons stated, I believe that study groups are the best way to revise. When some members aren’t serious about studying, they can disrupt the study session. If members don’t come prepared, they can rely on other members. If there isn’t a good group leader, the rules and agenda of the group can’t be fulfilled. When group members are close friends or classmates, they can get distracted. Study groups are the best way to revise 3 3 3 Audio PdPc Audio Kuasai PBD Eng Y6(U9).indd 73 04/10/2023 3:12 PM

LS 3.2.2 Agatha Christie was an English author who wrote 66 detective novels and 11 short story collections. She wrote many murder mysteries and detective stories. In 3 December 1926, Agatha was part of a mystery of her own.She left her home at 9.30 p.m. in her car and drove off. The next morning, her car was found several miles away, partly stuck in some bushes. The headlights were switched on and a suitcase and coat were still in the backseat. ButAgatha was missing. Her disappearance became big news. Thousands of police officers and volunteers helped to look for her. Planes flew over rural parts of the search area and even a large reward was offered. But there weren’t any news about her whereabouts. Ten days later, a head waiter from a hotel in Harrogate, Yorkshire called the police and said that a hotel guest could be the missing author. After 11 days, she was found at the Swan Hydropathic Hotel, now known as the Old Swan. There were several explanations; she had amnesia or suffered a breakdown. But many people believed it was a publicity stunt to promote her books. Agatha never gave an explanation about her disappearance. All the people involved never talked about it either. Agatha also never wrote about her disappearance in her autobiography. 3 December • Agatha drives away from her home at (1) 9.30 p.m. 4 December • Agatha’s (2) car is found abandoned several miles away from her home • The (3) headlights are turned on • Agatha’s (4) suitcase and coat are in the backseat • Agatha is (5) missing 5 – 12 December • There is a (6) search • (7) Police officers and volunteers look for her • (8) Planes search for her from the air • A large (9) reward is offered 13 December • A (10) head waiter at a hotel calls the police 14 December • Agatha is found at the (11) Swan Hydropathic Hotel after missing for (12) 11 days Kuasai PBD Eng Y6(U10).indd 74 04/10/2023 3:11 PM

LS 2.1.1 Possible explanation Clue One lighthouse keeper left his coat behind. Two lighthouse keepers were out for a long time and when they didn’t return, the third lighthouse keeper rushed out to look for them. 4 The clock stopped and none of the lighthouse keepers were around for several days to get it working again. 2 Strong winds or a storm may have slammed the gate and door shut. 1 The three lighthouse keepers were about to or sitting down to have their meal when they had to leave suddenly. 5 One of the keepers must have knocked it down as he rushed out of the lighthouse. The others might have been in a hurry, so they didn’t stop to put it up. 3 On 26 December 1900, a boat called Hesperus sailed to the island of Eilean Mor of the Flannan Isles, off the coast of northwestern Scotland. The captain and his crew were taking the replacement lighthouse keeper to the island. When the captain and everyone on the boat arrived at the landing dock, none of the three lighthouse keepers were there to meet them. The replacement lighthouse keeper, Joseph Moore, climbed up the hill to the lighthouse. He was the first to look around the lighthouse and this was what he found: a shut gate and door a clock that has stopped working an overturned kitchen chair two of the three oilskin coats of the lighthouse keepers were gone a large plate of chicken, potatoes and vegetables on the kitchen table 1 2 3 4 5 Kuasai PBD Eng Y6(U10).indd 76 04/10/2023 3:12 PM

A strange thing happened in a small, quiet town. One day, letters began arriving for the townsfolk. They contained secrets about their neighbours. The letters were postmarked from a nearby town. . As weeks passed, most of the people had received the letters. The police chief began to investigate the case. He interviewed the townsfolk. The residents looked at each other with suspicion. They stopped talking to each other because they were afraid of what might appear in the letters. Then guess what, the police arrested a man and he was sent to prison. The people were relieved . You won’t believe it but later the prisoner received a letter himself. He was then released from prison. Some townsfolk still believed he was guilty but he always claimed he was innocent. The letters continued to arrive and then, one day it stopped suddenly. Who sent the letters? B Now, do you know of an interesting mystery story? Tell it to the class. In 1932, she became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1935, she was the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to the United States mainland. [1] On 1 June 1937, she set off to fly around the world. She was accompanied by Fred Noonan, her navigator. They took off from Oakland and went to Miami. Next, they went to South America, across the Atlantic and then, to Africa. After that, they flew to India and Southeast Asia.[2]They arrived in Lae, New Guinea on 29 June. They had flown over 22,000 miles and had 7,000 miles left to Oakland. They left Lae and headed to Howland Island, where they were supposed to land to refuel. Along the way, they lost contact with the US Coast Guards and disappeared. There was a two-week search but they were never found. On 19 July 1937, they were declared lost at sea. There were several theories explaining what had happened to them. The official reason was that[3]they crashed into the Pacific Ocean. Another theory was their plane ran out of fuel while Earhart was looking for the island and then, crashed. One more explanation was that she went off course and landed on an[4]uninhabited island. It is believed Earhart and maybe Noonan survived for a few days or weeks and then died. Since 1988, expeditions to the island have found artefacts such as 1930s woman’s shoes and cosmetic jar. But later expeditions in 2017 and 2019 found no human remains or the plane wreckage. 1 When did Amelia and her navigator set off on their flight around the world? 1 June 1937 2 Where was Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan last seen? Lae, New Guinea 3 What was the formal explanation about Amelia and Fred’s disappearance? They crashed into the ocean. 4 Which word in the text means ‘lonely and without any people’? ‘uninhabited’ Kuasai PBD Eng Y6(U10).indd 80 04/10/2023 3:12 PM
