Dear Parents and Students,
Once again it is our pleasure to let you know our good news at this time of the year.
Despite the pandemic your continued resilience and strong determination have kept the Bristol School a school of
excellence. Not only has the number of students increased, but also the level of satisfaction of all those involved.
Everyone has shown a strong commitment to help our students succeed.
Thank you parents for your cooperation!
Thank you, dear students, for your enthusiasm and hard work!
Thank you, all teachers, for motivating and inspiring your students!
Thank you, all staff, for your help making it happen nicely and professionally!
And once again we have to tell you that the Bristol School keeps its record of consistent excellent results. Last
June our students were awarded outstanding results with a rate of 100% success in Cambridge Exams. It could
not have been better! We are so proud of you!
We had a nice number of almost 200 students ranging from young learners (Starters/Movers) to Proficiency (C2)
who have faced the challenge of doing an International Exam and achieved amazing results. You definitely
deserve the International English Certificate you’ve been awarded.
Another piece of good news is our online courses which have become very popular. In the academic year
2020/2021 we ran fifteen courses simultaneously with our face-to-face classes. We are continuing this modern
way of learning, as the demand continues to be high. So, we are announcing online courses for French, Spanish,
German, Mandarin and English to start in January.
The last piece of good news is our Summer Course in the UK. After a two-year break due to Covid19, we are
organising courses in July 2022.
We are offering summer camps in two fantastic places: Lincoln/Cambridge and Scotland/Edinburgh.
‘It is an unforgettable experience for life!’ - to quote one of our students who has already experienced it.
We guess all of you are already embracing this Xmas season. We wish you positive feelings and may the Xmas
spirit be alive in your hearts.
We wish you all and your families M e r ry C h r is t m a s an d a H a pp y N ew Y e a r !

A magical present
There was a girl named Jane that didn´t have friends in
school, because she moved to another city and to another
school. She felt alone.
Before
Christmas, her parents asked her a question – “what do you
want for a Christmas present?” and Jane with a sad face said
“a friend”. The parents stopped smiling immediately and the
father had an idea.
On Christmas night after
dinner Jane opened the presents and when she thought she
finished unwrapping the presents, her father came out from the
kitchen with a shaking box and when Jane opened the present she
had a huge smile on her face. She saw a dog (a beautiful white
dog). On that night, Jane was having a bad dream when she
woke up with lots of dog kisses. The dog said “don´t worry, I’m
here for you”.

Christmas: 10 Acts of kindness
This year was very complicated because of the pandemic,
so, to make our world a better place, here´s a little list so that
we can do something special:
▪ Give some gifts to orphans;
▪ Watch a feel-good film with people who feel lonely;
▪ Make some delicious Christmas-shaped cookies;
▪ Play “Secret Santa” with friends;
▪ Do some volunteer work at a Christmas kitchen;
▪ Play some board games with our family;
▪ Sing some Christmas Carols to the neighbours (socially-distanced of
course)
▪ Make fun and creative Christmas Cards;
▪ Help the elderly decorate their houses;
▪ Turn an old t-shirt into a Christmas one and give it to someone special.

A normal abnormal Christmas
It was a white Christmas night, where everyone was rocking around the Christmas tree while listening to Mariah Carey’s
playlist.
My grandmother was wearing a gingerbread dress with red shoes. And, man, she was swaying her hips like a
professional dancer. It was kind of funny to watch! Next to her was my bald, hilarious, and sarcastic uncle Joey, dancing
and prancing. My crazy grandfather, however, was just walking around with a glass of wine in his hand, waiting for the
chestnuts to roast on an open fine. And then my annoying brother, sitting on the stairs with his huge headphones on,
judging us with his stupid looking face. He was forced to be there with us because he’d rather have been in his cave
(where he belongs).
Suddenly, my mom and dad came from the kitchen announcing the opening of our gifts, singing “Present Time!”.
“I don’t care about the presents.” – I heard my brother murmuring.
“Do they know it’s Christmas time?” – my grandma commented with my uncle. I started laughing so hard but my dad
gave me that look and I had to pull myself together. Poor old lady… she has Alzheimer.
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year so quit being moody!” – said my uncle.
After that, my brother joined us with an annoyed look on his face. The first present that was given was to my mom. A
beautiful, diamond necklace with a blue shining stone on it. She freaked out when she opened it!
Then, it was my turn. My grandma slowly made her way towards me and gave me a big yellow box. I started
ripping the paper apart but then I stopped in shock. It was a Barbie on a “reindeer” open sleigh.
But when I started playing with it, my grandpa picked up my toy and ran outside with it. We were worried because
that man had a chicken brain. So, we followed him and saw him trying to sit on the sleigh.
“Baby, it’s cold outside!” – my grandma shouted.
“I’m Santa Claus! I’m driving home for Christmas! – to the North Pole” – he said, apparently holding his new Barbie.
He was definitely crazy! We all started laughing but we knew he was literally insane!
“I wish it could be Christmas everyday!” – I said, with a big smile on my face. I love my abnormal family!

The Night I met Santa
It was Christmas eve and John was sleeping in his bed, but he woke up
because he heard a strange noise from the living room, so he went to see.
When he got there, he saw that the cookies and the milk were gone, and
someone was running up the chimney. So, John turned on the lights to see who
it was. It was Santa! So, he went to talk to him. After they spoke, Santa Claus
told him that if he didn’t tell anyone about the conversation, he would give
him a gift.
So, the next morning John went to the Christmas tree and saw that the present
from Santa was there. He was surprised because when he opened it, he saw
the thing he wanted most. A dog!

Your Excellency Mr. President
My name is Catarina Almeida, I'm 14 years old, I'm in the 9th year grade and I have a Catholic education.
I hesitated for several days about if I should contact you, but today I feel I must carry out this mission - save Christmas!
We are living in an absolutely catastrophic pandemic situation! Despite the vaccination, the numbers have increased, the
national health service is getting critical, and we cannot forget what happened last year, after Christmas. I understand that
your intention is to protect the citizens of our country. However, we cannot cancel Christmas. Christmas is Jesus' birthday!
Can you imagine canceling your own birthday? How could you do that? Does not another year count? I know this is not a
very objective argument, but I am very concerned about this possibility. And that is why I appeal to your generosity and
compassion, as the highest representative of our country.
In general opinion, Christmas is a very important holiday. Bonds are strengthened and unique family memories are created.
I know Mr. President misses cooking with his grandmother and singing Christmas songs by the Christmas tree!
It is a time marked by helping others, through campaigns with the purpose of donating clothes, toys, and food to the
neediest, in order to make them happy, because everyone deserves a happy Christmas. And what about the homeless and
the poor children who, at this magical time, forget their miserable lives and enjoy wonderful meals prepared by angels and
symbolic gifts that fill their hearts? Do you want to ruin the only happy day for these poor people?
This celebration is also essential for the economy, due to the radical increase in demand for products of all specialties,
which thus gives the possibility to improve the lives of each one of us, enabling the growth of small and large businesses,
maintaining employment.
This is the real Christmas spirit, and no one is able to live without it anymore.
This is the best gift the President can give to its citizens!
If you, Mr. President, answer my call, I, who are not yet of voting age, will urge everyone around me to do so, when it's
time to re-elect you!
God bless the President!

Christmas – the best time of the year
When most people think about Christmas, they immediatly thinka bout unity because this time of the year
is full of happiness and joy.
In most of the country. people usually love it because you can celebrate life and all the good things that
happened to you during the year.People get really in the mood when they are decorating the tree and
the house because they have so much fun and when people live in places where it´s cold in this part of the
year they turn on the fireplace and it is very cozy. Once you find the perfect Christmas tree you start
putting up lights and decorating it with ornaments that will instantly bring loads of holiday cheer to your
home. Plus, it smells delightful. A traditional thing that people usually do all over the world is to watch tv,
more especifically , Christmas films while they are drinking hot chocolate.
Furthermore, people also enjoy it because they are on holiday. It is very good for students and people
who work because they are very tired and it is a time when they can rest and be with all their family
together , having a great time. One of the good parts is when they are giving presents , however, the
purpose of Christmas is not that but if the presents have a funny meaning behind them or they remind the
person of a memory the two had together, it is so adorable. Ugly Christmas sweaters are some of the
holiday season's best accessories.Go to your local store and find the brightest sweater and you will be the
hit of every Christmas party. One of my favourite inspirations which also gives me motivation and it´s
amazing is when the whole town has beautiful Christmas lights. I love it! The best gift that I can give you is
to make you realize how much you have already because life is short and we have to appreciate every
moment of it or we will regret it.This season will make sure that you understand the purpose of Christmas
and life.

Christmas in Colombia
In Colombia, Christmas celebrations and preparations start on the evening of the 7th December which is known
as “Día de las Velitas” or “Day of the little Candles”. Houses and streets are decorated with candles, lanterns
and lots of lights. There are also big firework displays and music to dance to and food like “buñuelos” and
“empanadas”. This day is celebrated by Catholics around the world as The Feast of the Immaculate Conception
but is especially popular in Colombia.
From December 16th until Christmas Eve, many Colombians take part in “novenas”. These are special times when
family, friends and neighbors come together to pray in the days leading up to Christmas. They are known as the
“Novena de Aguinaldos” (Christmas Novena) and often a different house hosts the meeting every night. As well
as the prayers, people sing carols and eat lots of yummy foods!
People like to decorate their homes with Christmas Trees and other decorations. It's very common to have
candles (normally red and white) and other lights displayed in windows or on balconies. Another very important
Christmas decoration in Colombia is a nativity scene or “el pesebre” (Christmas crib). In early December,
children write a “Carta al Niño Dios” (letter to baby Jesus) asking for what presents they would like. The letter is
placed in the “pesebre”. They hope that Jesus will bring them presents on Christmas Eve.
The main Christmas meal is eaten on Christmas Eve night and it's called “Cena de Navidad”. The dishes often
include “lechona” (pork stuffed with rice and peas), ham, turkey or a chicken soup called “Ajiaco Bogotano”.
Other popular foods around Christmas are “Buñuelos” (cheesy fries), arepas (a thick dish made from corn) and
“hojuelas” (a fried pastry with sugar and jam). A very popular Christmas dessert is “Natilla” which is a set
custard.
After the Christmas Meal, many people will go to a Midnight mass Church Service. Some people stay up all
night, so Christmas Day is a day for relaxing and eating leftovers!
On the 28th December people celebrate Innocents Day, which is like April Fools Day, with lots of jokes and fun.
TV stations often show bloopers and funny mistakes people have made during the previous year.

The evil twins have other Christmas plans this year!
It was the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas and the evil twins
Gonçalo and Tomás were planning something that would change the history of
Bristol school forever…
On this silent night, all was calm, all was bright. Tomás was working away
in his cave, trying to conjure up a plan to rob Bristol school and change their test
marks, while Gonçalo, being the lazy guy that he was, was roasting chestnuts on
an open fire and foolishly burnt his finger.
When Tomás had finally found the perfect plan, Gonçalo leaped up and
let out a loud scream “Santa baby!”. Tomás hurried to check on Gonçalo and tell
him the amazing idea he had just come up with.
Gonçalo agreed with the plan and on Christmas eve they executed it.
First the twins jumped over the gate, climbing to the top of the window that was
unexpectedly open so they went inside. Tomás went immediately to the computer
to hack into the system while Gonçalo was exploring the room and singing let it
snow, let it snow, let it snow. Tomás was getting frustrated because of
Gonçalo’s annoying voice so he slapped his brother and told him to keep a look
out for any people. Gonçalo started sulking and accidently broke a jar of water
to which the alarm went off. Tomás started shouting at Gonçalo instead of
running away. When the police appeared, they were still fighting and inevitably
got caught.
As a result, Tomás and Gonçalo were expelled from the school and spent
a different sort of Christmas in prison, listening tirelessly to the other prisoners
sing Christmas carols.
To This day we don’t know what happened to Tomás but Gonçalo is now a clown
for kid’s parties and an all-round entertainer with the exception of singing any
songs to do with Christmas.

Home Alone – Review
Yesterday I saw Home alone with my whole family, a typical 90s film
directed by Chris Columbus that every people usually watch
at Christmas.
Home Alone is the story of 8-year-old Kevin (Macauley Culkin),
a mischievous middle child who feels largely ignored by his large extend
ed family. While preparing for a Christmas vacation in Paris,
Kevin gets in trouble, is banished to the attic overnight, and wishes his fa
mily would just disappear.
Kevin gets his wish the next morning when his family mistakenly leaves hi
m behind. Meanwhile, a pair of bumbling burglars (Joe
Pesci and Daniel Stern) takes advantage of the situation by pillaging the
neighborhood. It's up to Kevin
to defend his home, using every prank in his well-stocked arsenal.
This film has a lot of funny jokes and it is very soft because it is for whole
family. Also, this film was very important to launch Macauley’s career.
In conclusion, Home Alone it is a perfect film for Christmas and I think ther
e is a really good experience watching that movie in Christmas time.

A Christmas Carol – Charles Dickens
The last film I watched was “Disney’s A Christmas Carol”, a movie
adaption of the timeless book written by Charles Dickens.
It is the story of a greedy old man named Scrooge that gets visited by
three Christmas spirits that will show him his past, present and possible future.
There are multiple moments in this movie especially when Scrooge comes
across the harsh reality that no one would be sad if he passed away.
This film is all about Scrooge’s redemption, as he realizes his neglect
of others was doing more harm than good to him. The animation in this movie
is decent, but some of the characters appearances and looks might be a little
outdated by today’s standards.
All in all, I would recommend this film to anyone who loves redemption
stories and that there is always something good in all of us. It can be quite
inspiring to see such a grumpy and heartless person learn his lesson and
become a better person.

The great story about Chris(tmas)
It was Christmas Eve, the fire was burning bright, everyone was enjoying their hot chocolate.
Out of nowhere, one of the kids said:
“- Hey grandpa Chris, can you tell us a story to go with these delicious drinks?”
“- Of course, I can!” “Have I ever told you the story about a little boy named Christmas?”
“-It was a silent night, all was calm and all was bright, it was winter the most wonderful time of the year…”
according to Christmas.
Christmas, also known as Chris, a 13-year-old boy, who loved seeing the snow fall and cover up the floor, the
trees, the houses and everything else, felt like he was navigating through the clouds, every time winter came.
One day, he decided to go into town to see his friends. When he arrived, there was a big crowd surrounding Ms.
Star’s house. She was a really nice person who loved children and around this time of year she would give them all
presents and on December 25th they would all sing a song that now was very familiar to them and would always
make everyone smile because of that.
Unfortunately, the town received the news, Ms. Star had died! Everyone had a sad look on their faces, the
children were crying. Chris tried to cheer them up but they said that if Ms. Star was no longer with them,
celebrating winter would be pointless. Chris was shocked to hear that, “for goodness sake” he thought. He knew that
he needed to do something.
Chris decided to fill Ms. Star’s shoes and give presents to everyone who didn’t have the money to afford them.
He decided to try and make the gifts himself.
Christmas worked every day after school to get them done as soon as possible.
December 25th was the date chosen by Christmas to finally give the presents, the mood was right, he gathered
everyone in town and announced that he had something to give them. The boy distributed little boxes that
contained snow globes, he was extremely nervous but when he looked around, everyone had a smile on their face.
At that moment, snow started to fall, a beautiful sight they were happy that night, the people thanked Christmas
and from that day on they started celebrating Christmas day, every year on December 25th, giving each other
presents and giving joy to the world.
“- Wow, grandpa that was an amazing story. But what happened to that boy?”- one of the grandchildren asked.
“-We’ll never know…” he replied. “One more thing, can I teach you a song that is very special to me?”
All of them agreed and answered with a big “YES”.
Music started to play followed by the special lyrics.

Xmas is known for being the happiest time of the year but this time it brought a bad crime
to town.
It was 1990, in a small town, there were no phones, no TV only family to talk to and a lot
of cool games. Everyone was sitting around the table playing cards, when they heard a
loud noise, it sounded like someone or something falling from the window, so Caroline of,
Ms.Polly’s the owner of the house, decided to go look out of the window and see if the big
Santa clause that was holding onto the window house had fallen. It hadn´t so she went
back to her cards game with her family, thinking everything was fine but it wasn´t. What
they didn´t know was that a serial killer had just escaped prison and everyone was
looking for him. He killed both his parents in 1980 on Xmas eve. Ms. Polly decided to turn
on the radio and it was when they all found out that the man had escaped prison,
everyone was worried but it was almost midnight and time to open the presents when they
heard a similar sound again. It is past midnight and Ms.Polly screamed,, turns out there
was a rat eating the chocolates that her neighbour had left at the door with a lovely note.
More time had passed when Caroline looked at the corner and saw the rat was dead.
Everyone thought it was weird but they went home anyway.
It was the day after and they turned on the radio again to hear the news. Turns out 20
people had died the night before. The man had been poisoning chocolates and giving
them to people. Everyone was devastated to hear that so many people had died but at
the same time relieved that they hadn´t eaten the chocolates.

Christmas Revenge
- Just one more, daddy!
- Okay! “Once upon a time, in a very far away village, the Christmas spirit was starting to appear
everywhere. People were happier, kids were getting more excited every day and the streets were all
smelling like a bakery’s kitchen full of wonderful and colorful lights.
On Christmas Eve, everyone was having the time of their lives, enjoying all the great food that they had and
saying everything they were grateful for.
Everyone was so excited for the next morning that when the clock struck 11 pm, the silence took over that
village and all the grown-ups and children were asleep. But they had no idea of what was coming next.
- Tell me, dad, tell me!
- Be patience, Stuart. This story is about to start… “In the beginning of the night, the real, good Santa was
getting ready to leave his enormous house and go make some kids happy, when, all of a sudden, this big,
young guy emerged from nowhere and put Santa in a closet. Because of that Christmas seemed ruined, but
the trouble was yet to come.
It took a while for bad Santa to put on real Santa’s clothes, but when he managed to work that out, he was
ready to destroy Christmas. He started by removing all the real gifts and presents and replaced them with
some burnt toys. Then, when he was figuring out how to communicate with Rudolph, sadness took over him.
A few years before that, bad Santa’s dad had left him in a church on Christmas Eve and since that day, the
poor little guy promised that he would take revenge on what he called “the stupid holiday”.
As soon as he realized that those kids were just as innocent as him back when he was a little kid, bad Santa
came to the conclusion that the revenge he wanted wouldn´t bring back his father. So, he talked to Santa and
apologized and the real, good Santa promised Roberto that if he helped him to deliver all the presents,
Santa would also help him find his father.
That Christmas ended up being a success and a night with a lot of growth. The kids were over the moon with
all their presents and Roberto was one step closer to finding his father. The End!
- Did Roberto find his father, dad?
- I will tell you that story next time, buddy! Now it´s time to go to sleep, because Santa is coming and you’re
not supposed to be awake when he arrives.
- Good night, dad!
- Sleep well, Stuart! Matilde Castro, B2.2E
Christmas, the best part of the year
Christmas is always a symbol of being with family, spending time
with the ones you love most and sharing presents with them.
Holidays are always the best time of the year for everyone
because it is a time when you can relax and forget about your problems
and drink a cup of hot chocolate in front of the TV while watching movies
all night.
The magic that Christmas gives is just huge, the streets are full of
people, the special events like the circus and firework shows, this magic is
what Christmas means to the younger generations and it is that magic that
will make them want to continue the legacy of Christmas.
Christmas is a very beautiful season not just in terms of the people
that make it magical but in decorative terms, the streets full of lights, the
houses all decorated, Christmas makes every city colorful, happy place.
Christmas is all about being with family and living the magic that is
why it is the best part of the year.

The worst and the best Christmas ever
Yesterday, was a very difficult day, yet it somehow felt good too. I had a car accident and so I arrived
late to work. As soon as I got there my boss gave me a lecture about my lateness, and it really got to
me.
I instantly drove back home for Christmas, and Baby it was cold outside. I looked outside the window
and Frosty, the snowman scared me.
When it was midnight the bells jingled and I saw my mom kissing Santa Claus. I instantly went to my
room and closed my door. It was a silent night, I sat there quiet for a while and then I played my old
ps3 for almost 5 hours hoping that one day I could buy a gaming PC.
I was very sad, because I thought I would be lonely this Christmas. But then I received a message from
the girl that I liked. She sent me a link to the song - All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey.
She also said she liked me, and that really made my day.
Today we all woke up and we opened our gifts. I got what I´d asked for! I still can´t believe my
parents gave me what I wanted.
Now, we are all having lunch and I want them all to finish eating, so that I can play on my new gaming
PC.

Love actually, a Christmas classic
“Love Actually” shows the lives of several families at Christmas time. Where a little bit of everything happens:
Love stories and betrayals that in the end are all connected.
In this film, the new Prime Minister of England falls in love with one of his employees, Natalie. In an attempt to
heal his heart, a writer who had recently been betrayed leaves for the south of France and ends up falling in
love with a Portuguese cleaning lady. Karen suspects that her husband Harry is cheating on her with his
secretary. Juliet, who recently got married, is suspicious about intentions of Mark, her husband's best friend.
Sam is a young boy who wants to get the attention of the most difficult and beautiful little girl in his school.
Sarah finally has a great chance to go out with Karl her co-worker who she has a silent crush. Billy a musician
from the past wants his career as a rock star back. This plot may seem confusing but all these stories are linked
by something, love.
I liked this movie because it shows not only a couple or a family but the connection that these people have and
how their lives are connected.
I would definitely recommend this film, because it is family- oriented and it shows us the importance of always
having someone by our side who loves us, be it family, friends or partners.

The importance of Christmas
Among all the holidays, I think that we can all agree that Christmas is the most famous one.
When this time of the year arrives, joy fills the air and people seem to be more enthusiastic. This
is because in late November, the city lights are put on, the streets and shopping centers are
decorated and as people start to get into the Christmas spirit which is based on compassion and
kindness, they get happier.
This being said, Christmas is a highly important holiday because it not only brings people
together, but it also gives families that live far from each other the opportunity to reunite, catch
up and have a wonderful time together.
The gift tradition may be something that also puts compassion and kindness into this season
because if like me, you are someone that loves buying gifts for others, it is a way to demonstrate
your affection towards that person.
I see Christmas as a very important occasion because its spirit makes people happier, brings
them together and is a way of doing beautiful gestures for others.

AN EMOTIONAL DAY FOR BOB
It´s Christmas time! It´s the happiest season for all, except for Bob. He never
had anyone come around to his house at Christmas time. For him, it was
always a silent night, always calm, never bright.
With Joe, it was the complete opposite. For him, it was the most wonderful
time of the year!
One day, Joe was walking to school, but decided to take a shortcut and
it was then when he passed Bob´s house.
It was a very old house and from the outside he could see that the
person´s living room was covered in ashes. Joe curiously decided to
inspect the gloomy place, but before he could get anywhere near it, he
heard a girl shout out: “If you set a single foot in that house, you´ll die!”
Joe turned around and it was Maria, one of his classmates. She told him
about the rumours about Bob kidnapping children. Joe, as curious as he
was, asked his parents about the rumours later that day.
They told him that 25 years ago, Bob´s house burnt down like chestnuts
roasting on an open fire and his daughter had died in this fire.
Joe was very sad to hear that, so he decided to go back to Bob´s house
with Maria. When they arrived, the kids knocked on the front door and
Bob opened it. They chatted for a bit and, in some way, Maria reminded
Bob of his daughter.
After two weeks of spending time together, it was almost time for Santa
Claus to come to town. Joe and Maria had the idea of talking to the
whole village and organise a big Christmas party for Bob. In order to
persuade him to come to the party, Joe and Maria told Bob that there
was a big sale going on at the local supermarket which intrigued him.
When they arrived, everyone was waiting for them. Bob had never been
so happy in the last 25 years as he was that day.
- “Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?” – the kids asked Bob
- “Yes, joy has finally arrived in my world” – Bob answered, with tears
running down his face.

´Tis the season to be jolly! ´ and let´s make it a different one this year by creating a
new uniform for Bristol School.
For the girls, we´ve chosen a sweater that has Christmas colours on it. It is green with red spots to
symbolise the baubles.
It also has a beautiful image of Lilo, from Disney to make it magical.
The trousers are red and we wanted to add the
Bristol School logo on the sweater and the white socks.
For the boys, we wanted to have the same theme. We chose the opposite colours. The
jumper is red with green spots and it has an image of stitch from Disney too. The

The trousers are green and the trainers are red and white.
The trainers and the jumper have the Bristol School logo.
