20 years ago, teacher Natthapach returned to the very
school, she studied at, to become a new teacher at
Suwannaphumphitthayapaisarn School.

She felt excited to be going back to her old school, where
there are about 3,360 students enrolled. She had hoped that she
would be teaching students that were highly motivated and eager
to learn.

One day, in one of her lessons, she taught about shopping
and the stores or markets associated with these items, such as
milk, cheese, books, magazines, apples and oranges. As well as
the functional language related to the topic. For example…

- How many I help you?
- What would you like to buy?
- How much does this cost?
- How many do you need ? etc.
Followed by a homework assignment.

“First you must write down a list of a variety of goods that
you would like to buy at a market or store, and then write up a
conversation about shopping at these places.

I need you to complete this assignment by the next time
you come to class.” she explained. The students all replied ‘yes’
and the class ended. Standing up and thanking the teacher, the
students all left.

After school, two of the students, Duandao and Kaewta,
come across their classmate Toomtam while walking home.
He was playing basketball with his friends.

Duandao said to him, “You should be doing your homework
assignment that the teacher gave us.”

Toomtam replied, “Don’t worry, I’ll be able to complete it
and hand it in on time!”

Kaewta remaked, “Well, we’ve warned you, so if you don’t
complete it, then once again you will be in trouble.”

After their first encounter, Duandao and Kaewta noticed that
every day, leading up to the day the class needed to hand in
their assignments, Toomtam was always playing basketball.

On the day before class, Duandao asked Toomtam if he
had done his homework. He replied no, but that he would get it
completed on time.

When the time came for the students to hand in their
homework. Toomtam had not completed it. Noticing
Toomtam at the back of the class, teacher Natthapach asked
him to hard in his assignment. Toomtam replied, “Sorry teacher,
but I have not done it yet.”

Teacher Natthapach asked him why and Toomtam replied
that he was playing basketball all the time and forgot to
complete it.

Teacher Natthapach, was aware that he was playing
basketball all the time, which left him no time to complete his
assignment, said, “It is very important to do what is necessary for
you do. You have not done your homework and need to be
punished. However I will give you until tomorrow to have it
completed.”

Toomtam couldn’t play basketball that evening and had to work
all night to have his homework completed on time.

Toomtam learned his lesson and from that day onwards he
always complete his homework as required by his teacher.

The moral of this story is;

“Don’t neglect your responsibilities as they will create
