News item bertujuan untuk memberikan informasi kepada pembaca atau
pendengar. Biasanya, News item memberikan informasi yang merupakan

Bagian teks yang menceritakan peristiwa yang sedang dibahas pada
teks dan biasanya berbentuk ringkasin (summary).
b. Elaboration / Background Event
Menceritakan latar belakang peristiwa yang terjadi. Bagian ini
menjelaskan apa yang terjadi, kepada siapa, dan dalam keadaan apa.
c. Source (Resource of Information)
Berisi komentar dari orang-orang yang mengalami atau ada pada
peristiwa tersebut, saksi mata, dan para ahli. Meskipun begitu, perlu dicatat
bahwa teks ini bukan berfokus pada pelakunya namun pada kejadian yang
terjadi.
4. Language features of News Item Text
a. Bahasa yang digunakan singkat namun padat dan berfokus kepada suatu
kejadian.
b. Teks ini juga mencantumkan informasi utama pada judul teksnya
(headline).
c. Biasanya menggunakan kata kerja untuk menunjukkan aktivitas (action
verbs) seperti push, hit, jump, crash, dan lain sebagainya.
d. Tenses yang biasa digunakan pada teks ini adalah Past Tenses karena
peristiwa yang diceritakan sudah terjadi. Namun tidak menutup
kemungkinan untuk bisa menggunakan Present Tense.
e. Teks ini juga menggunakan saying verb seperti said, stated, reported, dan
lain sebagainya.

Tanah Datar Minangkabau Cultural Festival, Rich in
Traditions and Attractions
The Minangkabau Cultural Enchantment Festival as one of
the annual agendas of the Tanah Datar Regency Government, West
Sumatra which will feature a variety of Minangkabau arts and
culture will begin today, November 28 2018. The activity is held
for five days or ends on December 2, 2018.
Some of the agendas that have been prepared include the
Minangkabau Cultural Parade, Arakan Bajamba, MURI record-

competition and others. Abdul Hakim added that this activity is one

and Sawahlunto International Music Festival (SIMFest).
"This year's implementation also involves several
regencies/cities in West Sumatra and neighboring provinces," said
Head of the Tanah Datar Youth and Sports Tourism Agency
(Disparpora), Abdul Hakim in Batusangkar, Tuesday (27/11).
Abdul Hakim said that the activities, which will be centered at
Istano Basa Pagaruyuang and several other places, will present

Indonesia May Cancel Christmas-New Year Collective Leave
Days If The Number of Coronavirus Cases Increased
The spokesman of COVID-19 task force, Wiku Adisasmito,
stated that there is a possibility for the government to cancel
Christmas-New Year collective leave days. Wiku, in a press
conference aired on Presidential Secretariate YouTube account on
November 19, 2020, also stated that this cancellation is the
consequence we may receive if the number of coronavirus cases
increased.
As we have known, Indonesia does not ordinarily have
public holdays between Christmas and New Year holidays.
However, this policy comes to effect this year to make up for
canceling Eid al-Fitr collective leave days due to the concern of
new coronavirus outbreak in May.
On November 13, 2020, there is an addition for 5,444 new
cases of coronavirus which as the effect of previous collective leave
days on October. Learning from this situation, the Indonesian
Medical Assiciation and some experts have recommended the
government to cancel this Christmas-New Year collective leave
days due to the same potential increase in the number of
coronavirus cases. In respond to this, Wiku claimed that the
government’s decision is actually depends on the community
compliance in following applicable health protocols.

Two state-owned lenders — Bank Mandiri and Bank BNI — will
build temporary houses for 400 families displaced by the recent
strong earthquake that hit Sigi District, Central Sulawesi ProvincE.
Second Assistant Secretary of Sigi District Government Iskandar
Nontji informed that the temporary houses for 100 families will be
constructed by Bank Mandiri in the South Sibayala area of Dolo
Sub-district. Meanwhile, Bank BNI will erect the temporary
shelters for 300 families in Jonoge Village of Sigi Biromaru Sub-
district that severely suffered from soil liquefaction during the 7.4-
magnitude earthquake that rocked the area on Sept 28, he noteD.
The temporary houses will be constructed on pieces of land, owned
by the sub-district government, village, and community members,
he stated, adding that the Sigi district government will facilitate all
related parties to sign a letter of agreement.

Nine traditional Balinese dances have been recognized as part of
the world’s intangible cultural heritage following a UNESCO
session in Namibia on Wednesday.
Balinese dances included on the list were the Barong Ket, Joged
Bumbung, Legong Keraton, Topeng Sidhakarya, Baris Upacara,
Sanghyang Dedari and Rejang dances, as well as the Wayang
Wong and Gambuh dance dramas.
“We are very pleased with the recognition; it enables Bali to
receive protection in terms of traditional dance preservation as well
as economic benefits in the future,” said Bali Cultural Agency head
Dewa Putu Beratha on Wednesday night as quoted by Antara news
agency.
During the UNESCO session, Indonesia’s proposal regarding the
dances reportedly ranked 18th among a total of 35 countries. “The
nine dances represent Balinese dance as a whole based on their
historical concept, function and style,” said Dewa.
According to Dewa, the Rejang, Sanghyang Dedari and Baris
Upacara dances represented the Wali dance, which is usually
performed during processions. Meanwhile, the Topeng Sidhakarya
dance and Gambuh and Wayang Wong dance dramas are part of
the Bebali dance, known as a semi-sacred and ceremonial dancE.
The Legong Keraton, Joged Bumbung and Barong Ket dances are a
representation of the Balih-Balihan dance that serves social and
entertainment purposes.
The Wali dance is said to have originated between the eighth and
14th centuries. The Bebali dance and Balih-Balihan dances are
believed to have come from the 14th-19th century and 19th
centuries, respectively.
“The community has actively played an important role in
preserving these traditional dances, especially the Wali dancE.
Meanwhile, the Bali provincial administration and its city and
regency administrations should increase their role in preserving the
Bebali and Balih-Balihan dances during tourist events,” said Dewa.

Two state-owned lenders — Bank Mandiri and Bank BNI — will build
temporary houses for 400 families displaced by the recent strong earthquake
that hit Sigi District, Central Sulawesi ProvincE.
Second Assistant Secretary of Sigi District Government Iskandar Nontji
informed that the temporary houses for 100 families will be constructed by
Bank Mandiri in the South Sibayala area of Dolo Sub-district. Meanwhile,
Bank BNI will erect the temporary shelters for 300 families in Jonoge Village
of Sigi Biromaru Sub-district that severely suffered from soil liquefaction
during the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that rocked the area on Sept 28, he noteD.
The temporary houses will be constructed on pieces of land, owned by the sub-
district government, village, and community members, he stated, adding that
the Sigi district government will facilitate all related parties to sign a letter of
agreement.
“We are going to provide a letter of agreement that will be signed by all related
parties to avoid any unexpected eventuality in the future,” he explaineD.

Nine traditional Balinese dances have been recognized as part of the world’s
intangible cultural heritage following a UNESCO session in Namibia on
Wednesday.
Balinese dances included on the list were the Barong Ket, Joged Bumbung,
Legong Keraton, Topeng Sidhakarya, Baris Upacara, Sanghyang Dedari and
Rejang dances, as well as the Wayang Wong and Gambuh dance dramas.
“We are very pleased with the recognition; it enables Bali to receive protection
in terms of traditional dance preservation as well as economic benefits in the
future,” said Bali Cultural Agency head Dewa Putu Beratha on Wednesday
night as quoted by Antara news agency.
During the UNESCO session, Indonesia’s proposal regarding the dances
reportedly ranked 18th among a total of 35 countries. “The nine dances
represent Balinese dance as a whole based on their historical concept, function
and style,” said Dewa.
According to Dewa, the Rejang, Sanghyang Dedari and Baris Upacara dances
represented the Wali dance, which is usually performed during processions.
Meanwhile, the Topeng Sidhakarya dance and Gambuh and Wayang Wong
dance dramas are part of the Bebali dance, known as a semi-sacred and
ceremonial dancE. The Legong Keraton, Joged Bumbung and Barong Ket
dances are a representation of the Balih-Balihan dance that serves social and
entertainment purposes.
The Wali dance is said to have originated between the eighth and 14th
centuries. The Bebali dance and Balih-Balihan dances are believed to have
come from the 14th-19th century and 19th centuries, respectively.
“The community has actively played an important role in preserving these
traditional dances, especially the Wali dancE. Meanwhile, the Bali provincial
administration and its city and regency administrations should increase their
role in preserving the Bebali and Balih-Balihan dances during tourist events,”
said Dewa.
