Ellie’s Advent Collection
Kingsleigh Primary School student Ellie, launched a Christmas food bank
collection, with the goal of donating food to those most in need over the festive
period. The idea snowballed as staff and students from both Kingsleigh Primary
School and The Bourne Academy began to donate items to the cause. The collection
now has over 20 festive hampers ready to donate to those in need in the local
community.
Ellies mum, Mrs Luker, who works at The Bourne Academy says ‘Ellie decided to
do “Ellies Advent Collection” and donate an item a day in December to people who
are less fortunate. Ellie is passionate about helping others and she feels very proud
that so many people have supported her in collections”.
Kingsleigh Primary School Headteacher says “We are all really proud of Ellie at
KPS, for her amazing efforts with her collection and for being so proactive, kind
and caring. I know that the donations will be really appreciated in the community
and they will make a real difference to families this Christmas.”

Welcome to the January 2021 issue of The Local Eye
At the time of writing this we still didn’t know if we would
be staying in Tier 2 or changing, nor did we know if we
would be in another lockdown now. I know we have to
abide by the government directives but I sincerely hope
our lives can return to some semblance of normality soon.
However things turned out I hope you were able to enjoy
Christmas & New year with family one way or another.
Wishing you a Happy & Healthy New Year,

There is no beating the taste of truly fresh
fruit and veg, especially when it’s yours!
Hello everybody and best wishes from us all here at Cornelia Road. We wish you all a safe and
better year than last.
Thankfully gardening and tending allotments is still allowed under the Covid19 restrictions.
In fact both are a great way to indulge yourself in self-isolation, growing now, for pleasure later.
If you need some inspiration, perhaps the following points might help.
JANUARY
• You can leave the garden at home for the next couple of months apart from clearing leaf and
other litter from your beds.
• BCP Council are accepting unwanted Christmas trees at
their household re-cycling centres e,g Millhams.
*They will not be collected kerbside.
• Apply some Sulphate of Potash around the base of fruit
plants.
• If you have stored any Dahlia tubers, check that they are
not rotting and if so remove the damaged tubers.
• Get out your hand tools and machinery, clean them up,
sharpen and straighten.
• Do make sure any petrol motors are lubricated and still operate.
• If you didn’t sow Broad Beans in early winter then for a quick start you can plant them now in
pots, or directly in the ground in February.
February
Do not be fooled by an occasional warm day, we are still in the depths of Winter
• Now is the time to get your seed bed and growing areas ready.
• Buy your seed potatoes and chit them inside in a bright frost free area.
• Well if you have not sown your Broad Beans by now, you must. I said
this twice because I love them, especially fried off in the fat of and with
some smoky bacon.
• Prune Gooseberries, Currents and cut Autumn Raspberries to 1”-2”
from the ground.
It is important to warm up your muscles and increase blood flow to
avoid strain and damage during these cold damp days.
• Try to avoid continuous bending, try sitting. Especially when planting Garlic, Beans and Peas.
You can make a long handled dibber rather than using your finger. Just drop the Garlic Clove or
Pea/Bean seed in the hole. Cover with your shortened rake then wait for them to shoot.
If we are still under Government restrictions, do look after yourself and those you care for.
Do what you can but always remember. The plants will always give more back than you put in.

Independent Estate Agents & Valuers
Is there any point putting my home on the market before Christmas,
or should I wait until the New Year?
As a general rule, there is nothing to be gained by waiting before putting your home on
the market. Assuming that you are looking to sell in order to buy somewhere else, the
swings and roundabouts principle always applies – whatever the state of the market.
That said, Christmas is the one real exception. Quite frankly, there is no point rushing
to market too close to the start of the festive season. At that time, just about everybody
has other things on their minds than looking at properties – properties which, with even
the best will in the world, they won’t be able to move into before the New Year.
However…far from just sitting on your hands until the turkey carcass finally bites the
dust, you can always turn this enforced lull to your advantage by putting everything in
place, so that you can hit the ground running immediately the festive season is over.
The key thing, of course, is to do your research, select your estate agent carefully and
instruct them. Most agents are going to have quite a lot of time to spare over the two or
three weeks leading up to Christmas, so your chosen firm should be perfectly able to
get everything ready for a New Year marketing blitz – from commissioning your Energy
Performance Certificate, taking good-quality photographs and preparing marketing
materials, to advising you on any little things you can do to improve the buyer-appeal
of your home.
The net result of all this is that you will be ideally placed to take the fullest possible
advantage of the increase in market activity which invariably follows the Christmas
lull. And don’t forget, the further you are down the road to selling your current home,
the stronger position you’ll be in when it comes to striking a deal on the next one.
Our aim is to do that bit extra to ensure a trouble free
sale or purchase of your property
We would like to take this opportunity to wish
all our clients... Past, Present & Future...

Looking Forward To 2021... By Mags Addison
*Everything up to date at the time of writing, but please be aware it is a fluid situation.
As we look back and reflect on 2020, the Coronavirus
Pandemic will be the topic that mainly dominates our
thoughts. It was a chaotic and life changing year. But
it was also a year of three big issues that dominated
the news: Covid 19, Brexit and Black Lives Matter. All
brought their own challenges. In the travel world it was
Covid 19 that had the biggest impact during 2020, as
it did in all other areas of our lives, and it devastated the travel industry for most of the year. Brexit could
be set to dominate and carry that forward into 2021 with changes to traveling to Europe.
As I write the Coronavirus Vaccines have started being rolled out in the UK. Which gives hope for moving
into 2021 and all our lives dramatically Improving (fingers crossed). Several of my elderly clients have
thankfully had theirs. The outcome and changes that will bring, of course, will be for the New Year
onwards.
We still have daily challenges this winter – travel rules and regulations are changing all the time. Entry
requirements are still in place for many countries – and most now require a Covid test before travel. More
rapid testing is becoming available at various UK airports (at a price mind you) which will help.
Travellers this winter will have to accept that regulations can change swiftly, even after booking. Also
changes of flight schedules may happen at times, as the airline industry adjust to situations. But hopefully
as we go into 2021, and spring, things will start to improve and settle down.
The same applies to Brexit, we keep abreast of information as it comes out, and are always ready to
advise- but of course we can’t do anything about changes made at Government level, nor always second
guess them. But we are there to check, to help – and if necessary – to re-book the travel.
Many of our clients moved their 2020 trips to 2021 and 2022, which is heartening. And the trend as
we go into the traditional booking season In the New Year and beyond, could be towards last minute
bookings, and those that offer flexibility. Other clients are looking further ahead to book something for
late 2021 and onwards. 2022 is doing well. Let’s face it, we all like something to look forward too,
particularly a holiday.
On the positive side, travel will survive – maybe with changes. Clients are now realising their money and
precious holidays are now better in the hands of a trusted agent, rather than risking putting it together
themselves via a website, or an impersonal Call Centre.
For those of us down here in the South, things are moving more positively for 2021. British Airways have
announced they will be flying out of Southampton airport to Europe. And Jet 2 Holidays, a favourite of
my northern clients, has announced they will be flying from Bristol. Many more cruise ships than normal
plan to cruise nearer to us in 2021, from Southampton or Europe – before they deploy once more back to
further flung destinations in 2022. So, we have many things to look forward too.
I finish by saying: stay safe – and to wish you a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.
Beach holidays, City breaks, Honeymoons, Weddings abroad, Adventure holidays, Ski,
Cruise, Tailormade trips, Flight only, Car hire, Airport hotels and parking and much more...

Brain Power
1: Once, there was a shoplifter that started stealing small items, but over time,
gradually stole bigger items. A lot of the people at the store knew the person, but no one
knew what was going on. After a period of nine months, however, the shoplifter had to
stop. Why?
2: A rather nasty criminal developed a seemingly foolproof way of extracting money
from bereaved families. He would scan the obituary columns in order to choose
the name of a wealthy man who had recently died. Then, he sent an invoice for
pornographic books addressed to the man and claimed payment for goods previously
dispatched. To avoid any scandal the family would eventually pay. How was he
eventually caught?
3: What do all these words have in common?
Assess, Banana, Dresser, Grammar, Potato, Revive, Uneven, Voodoo
4: You’re rummaging around your great grandmother’s attic when you find five short
chains each made of four gold links. It occurs to you that if you combined them all into
one big loop of 20 links, you’d have a lovely necklace. So you take it into a jeweller, who
tells you the cost of making the necklace will be £5 for each gold link that she has to
break and then reseal. How much will it cost?
5: Which is the correct logo,
left or right?
Answers on page 30
A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous.
The two were always getting into trouble and their parents could be assured that if any
mischief occurred in their town their two young sons were in some way involved. The
parents were at their wits end as to what to do about their sons’ behavior.
The mother had heard that a vicar in town had been successful in disciplining children
in the past, so she asked her husband if he thought they should send the boys to speak
with the vicar. The husband said, “We might as well. We need to do something before I
really lose my temper!” The vicar agreed to speak with the boys, but asked to see them
individually. The 8 year old went to meet with him first. The vicar sat the boy down
and asked him sternly, “Where is God?” The boy made no response, so the clergyman
repeated the question in an even sterner tone, “Where is God?”Again the boy made no
attempt to answer, so the vicar raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the
boy’s face, “WHERE IS GOD?”
At that the boy bolted from the room and ran directly home, into his room, hiding
himself in the wardrobe. His older brother followed him in and said, “What happened?”
“We are in BIG trouble this time. God is missing and they think we did it!”
The boys never did cause any more trouble.

Chiropody / Podiatry
** WE ARE NOW OPEN AGAIN! **
AH Parfiit Chiropdy provides professional foot treatments for all the family
Chiropody / podiatry is the assessment, diagnosis
and treatment of the foot, ankle and lower leg
conditions, and there is no difference between a
chiropodist or a podiatrist. Chiropody is the old term
for treatment by a foot health professional but the
term podiatry is becoming increasingly used as it is
a common term, used all over the world,
for treatment by a foot health professional.
The team at AH Parfitt Chiropodry are registered with the Health Care
Professions Council and are members of the Society of Chiropodists and
Podiatrists, with extended scope of practice for ‘Foot Mobilisation’ and local
anaesthetic to carry out nail surgery.
There are many ailments and conditions that can be successfully treated by a
qualified chiropodist, these include: Aching and/or tired feet, Musckuloskeletal
problems, Biomechanical abnormalities of the foot and ankle, Flat feet and
fallen arches, Skin conditions, Corns and Callus, Verrucae and warts, Fungal
infections of the skin and nails, Diabetic foot health, Sports Injuries and
Paediatric (children’s) feet.
Common Problems
Athletes Foot - Verrucaes - Heel Pain - Corns and Calluses - Bunions
Ingowing Toenails - Plantar Fasciitis - Diabetic Foot Conditions
Hammer Toes - Fungal Nail Infections - Arthritis in the Feet
People with diabetes may be at risk of developing foot problems.
Therefore it is beneficial to be screened, at least annually, to
detect the presence of neuropathy, ischaemia
and/or foot deformities.

WEIGH TO GO BOURNEMOUTH! SLIMMERS
COME BACK TOGETHER AND LOSE 673 STONE!
A weight has been lifted for slimmers from Bournemouth as they’re
an incredible 673 stone lighter since returning to their real-life
Slimming World groups in August.
Sadie Kerslake-Smith, the East Bournemouth Team Developer
e slim for l esays, “Local Slimming World Consultants are delighted to be back
helping members to lose weight and improve their health in person,
withand the results on the scales show just how much members are
Slimmingloving being back together too.”
WorldBeckie Roberjot, who has lost 13 stone as a member herself, says:
“I reopened my groups at the Moose Hall in Charminster in August,
after I’d been supporting members virtually in online weekly groups since March, when the national lockdown
first closed our community groups*.
“We’ve put measures in place to comply fully with local and Government guidance, of course, to ensure
members are safe, happy and comfortable being back at our group. It’s been absolutely amazing to come
back together again, it’s proven that there really is no better feeling than the magic of a real-life Slimming
World group – and the amazing results speak for themselves – a combined 169 st lost between them since
10th August!
“Members told me they’d really missed being together in-person – that feeling of community, swapping
recipes and sharing ideas, and being there for each other through the highs and the lows of their journey.
Plus, we know that there’s something powerful about stepping on the scales each week and having that
regular check-in on your progress.
“This year has been far from easy for all of us, with some people struggling more than others, but for lots
of my members all of the challenges and anxieties have actually made them more determined than ever
to achieve their goals and improve their health. They’ve proved anyone wanting to lose weight and feel
healthier – which research shows could protect against disease – doesn’t have to give up on their dreams!”
If you’re worrying about your weight and feeling alone and desperate, don’t give up. Don’t put it off. Our
Slimming World group is here and getting together every week. We’d love to be celebrating another huge
weight loss milestone by the New Year, so if you’re thinking of joining, come and be part of that success –
you’ll be welcomed by every one of us.
