Welcome to the April 2021 issue of The Local Eye

A year on from our first lockdown, who would have
thought it would have turned out the way it has. However,
the news is beginning to look positive, the vaccine rollout
is continuing fast and there is good news that the current

restrictions will be eased over the coming weeks.
It’s not over yet though so we need to remain careful.

Please stay safe, stay well!

There is no beating the taste of truly fresh
fruit and veg, especially when it’s yours!

April, and Easter Sunday is the 4th. It’s not the start of summer but we could have a warm spell.
Sow outdoors for beetroot, carrots, Swiss chard, summer cauliflower, lettuce, leeks, radish, turnip, spring and
pickling onions, peas and perpetual spinach in well-prepared soil. Dwarf French Beans and Sweet Corn under
cloches later in month. Sow indoors for marrows, courgettes, pumpkins, squash, sweet peppers, tomatoes,
cucumbers, aubergines, celery, celeriac and salads. Sow a seedbed of sprouting broccoli, cauliflowers and
cabbages for planting out in June or July.
Well that is enough of vegetables, what about a flower border that will be your joy and the envy of your
neighbours? Whether it is foliage or flowers, there are hundreds of flowers you can set from seed in April.
It is probably best to sow your seeds indoors in modules or trays as per the seed supplier’s instructions.
Whilst these are germinating you should prepare the ground you intend to plant them.
Consider the colour and height combinations for your borders. Some years ago I found a great wall chart on
line. It is still available by copying the link below into your internet search.
hub.suttons.co.uk/featured/cut-flower-wall-chart-and-growing-guide
If you are planning a new bed it is best to take a bit of time and effort in the
preparation. You would be disappointed later on to have a weed infested border, so
dig them out by hand now. At this point cover the ground with some black plastic. In
doing this any remaining weeds will seek out the light and after a short time you can
peel back the plastic to uncover the white roots. You should clear them thoroughly.
Flowers do not require much fertilizer but a dressing of Blood, Fish & Bone together
with a little Growmore will get your new plants going.

Independent Estate Agents & Valuers

Covid 19 and our commitment to you.

At the time of writing this we were still under lockdown, but the latest news is
of the ‘road map’ to take us back to something resembling a normal life.
Also, at this time, Estate Agents were among those businesses permitted to
remain open, and although we may not be fully confident that this was the
right decision we have to bear in mind our clients. The Stamp Duty holiday
period has been extended to 30th June there but there is still the desire to get
sales completed as soon as possible.

We wish to reassure you that we take all necessary precautions when
conducting viewings, valuations and instructions to minimise any risk to
vendors and prospective purchasers alike and yes.. ourselves.

Bearing this in mind please note that will only arrange, or consent to,
viewings of properties, whether they be occupied or vacant, if you are in a
strong position to proceed with a purchase. In other words, a first time buyer
with a mortgage agreed, cash buyer or that you have accepted an offer on the
sale of your own property.

Before requesting to view any of our properties please take time to look at the
full details available on the websites, make good use of the internet to look at
the location, use Google earth to get an overhead view and the street view to
get a proper understanding of where and what it is you are actually enquiring
about. This does sound obvious but you wouldn’t believe the number of times
we meet someone at a property only to be told “We didn’t realise it was here!”

Whatever the circumstances we will continue to maintain a commitment to
all our clients, current and new, to provide the best support and advice to
make the sale or purchase of your property as trouble free as we can.

Please stay safe & well!

Moving Tentatively Forward...
By Mags Addison
*Everything up to date at the time of writing, but please be aware it is a fluid situation.

At the time of writing – it’s still not clear when International Travel
for UK Citizens will be possible. Signs are hopeful, partly because
of the huge roll out of Covid-19 vaccines in this country, that so
many of us have now received – approx. 27 million as I write.

So as far as the United Kingdom goes – we are tentatively moving
towards that light at the end of the tunnel. I say tentatively
because as we know the situation can still change swiftly.

However, the situation within certain countries in Europe may be a different matter. Smaller numbers of the
population have so far been vaccinated, compared to the UK, plus there seems to be a certain resistance
to having and trusting the vaccine, and distribution problems. All add up to it being uncertain about their
recovery.
For us in the UK, there are two significant dates during our road map out of lockdown. On the 12th April,
a Global Task Force organized by Grant Shapps, the Transport Minister, will be publishing their report.
Hopefully, the government will then outlay its recommendations to the public and the travel industry about
the opening of all/some International Travel. And 5 weeks later, on the 17th May, we are all hoping that
will start to happen. In what form this will take – will be announced later.

The good news is that the cruising industry have been given the go ahead for domestic departures this
summer. Already many are now offering their programmes – mainly from June to September. With P&O
Cruises, Fred Olsen, Princess Cruises, Viking Ocean Cruises, and Solo Cruising – offering very attractive
options for their 2021 UK Cruises.
These UK Cruises have been shown significant interest by clients. And is already a welcome move forward,
for a sector of the Travel Industry that has been hit hard by the pandemic – but which has worked willingly
with their travel partners and public alike. They have been instrumental in moving bookings, issuing
refunds, and readily issuing increased value Future Credits for passengers.
These UK Cruises are a hugely positive move. The demand for cruising is always there, and clients feel they
are a good alternative to UK land-based holidays for 2021.

The confidence, however tentative, is welcome after a tough year for all of us. We will get through this
eventually. And whether we book holidays this summer in the UK, within UK waters, to further afield and
long-haul destinations this winter, or booking ahead to 2022 and 2023 – the travel public are showing
their support and desire to travel again.
For us in the South, we no longer will have the cruise ships languishing out in the bay in both Bournemouth
and Weymouth – a sight we have grown used to the last twelve months. Instead they will hopefully be soon
resuming their Worldwide operations. And we in the travel industry will be delighted to assist clients book
them. And we can’t wait.

Beach holidays, City breaks, Honeymoons, Weddings abroad, Adventure holidays, Ski,
Cruise, Tailormade trips, Flight only, Car hire, Airport hotels and parking and much more...

Chiropody / Podiatry

** WE ARE NOW OPEN AGAIN! **

AH Parfiit Chiropdy provides professional foot treatments for all the family

Chiropody / podiatry is the assessment, diagnosis
and treatment of the foot, ankle and lower leg
conditions, and there is no difference between a
chiropodist or a podiatrist. Chiropody is the old term
for treatment by a foot health professional but the
term podiatry is becoming increasingly used as it is
a common term, used all over the world,
for treatment by a foot health professional.

The team at AH Parfitt Chiropodry are registered with the Health Care
Professions Council and are members of the Society of Chiropodists and
Podiatrists, with extended scope of practice for ‘Foot Mobilisation’ and local
anaesthetic to carry out nail surgery.

There are many ailments and conditions that can be successfully treated by a
qualified chiropodist, these include: Aching and/or tired feet, Musckuloskeletal
problems, Biomechanical abnormalities of the foot and ankle, Flat feet and
fallen arches, Skin conditions, Corns and Callus, Verrucae and warts, Fungal
infections of the skin and nails, Diabetic foot health, Sports Injuries and
Paediatric (children’s) feet.

Common Problems

Athletes Foot - Verrucaes - Heel Pain - Corns and Calluses - Bunions
Ingowing Toenails - Plantar Fasciitis - Diabetic Foot Conditions
Hammer Toes - Fungal Nail Infections - Arthritis in the Feet

People with diabetes may be at risk of developing foot problems.
Therefore it is beneficial to be screened, at least annually, to
detect the presence of neuropathy, ischaemia
and/or foot deformities.

Bournemouth keyworker drove his weight
down and lost 4st in a year!

e At the beginning of last year, ambulance driver Craig Ballard was
struggling to transport patients on a stretcher, or from a wheelchair,
to their appointments and knew that losing weight would make it
easier.

slim for l eSo, in April 2020, the 26-year-old, from Bournemouth, decided to
join his local Slimming World group. Stepping on the scales after
withthe first week, Craig couldn’t believe he’d lost a staggering 10lb:
Slimming“I was chuffed to bits, I didn’t think I’d be able to eat so much food
including burgers, lasagne and all-day breakfasts and still lose
Worldweight, especially during the first lockdown!”
Craig attends his Slimming World group each week and
says the support and encouragement from his Consultant
Beckie Roberjot and the other members of his group has
without doubt been the key to successfully losing weight.
Craig says “The support of the group has been everything to
me, whether we’re meeting virtually, as we are at the minute,
or in person. We share recipe ideas and help each other
when we’ve had a challenging week. I cook everything from
scratch and batch cook at the weekends to help me during
the week. I’ve so much more energy and I can run up and
down the stairs at the hospital. In May 2020 I was a size XL
yet since October 2020 I’ve been back to a medium and
I feel great!”

Since losing weight, Craig has started walking a mile to and from Poole Hospital to work every day, and
slowly built up to running 5k on the treadmill most weeks. He’s also taking advantage of the BCP Beryl Bike
for key workers’ scheme.

Craig says, “Working for the NHS and seeing the impact of Covid-19, especially on overweight patients,
I feel lucky that I’ve turned my own health around.”

We’ve 50 years experience in helping and supporting members change their lives – for good! Why wait until
lockdown is over to get started on your weight loss dreams. Get in touch with your local Slimming World
Consultant today. You’ll be so happy that you did, because together, we really do make dreams come true!
