Project Indigo

One boy’s adventure through time and space!

Hi, I’m Tom, a local Doctor Who blogger & I write about my adventures online at
anadventurethroughtimeandspace.com

Project Indigo is my blog where I travel the world visiting
people and places associated with Doctor Who. Time travel with
me for a trip down Memory Lane to the West Wales Museum of
Childhood in ….West Wales!

The museum is at Pen-ffynnon, 1 mile from Llangeler in
Carmarthenshire. There is a tea room and a gift shop and the
museum has 10,000 exhibits! A warm welcome is offered to
‘everyone who is - or ever has been - a child’.
The museum was created by Paul and Hilary Kennelly and Vic
Davey to display the toys and memorabilia that they have been
collecting for most of their lives. They bought the farm, Pen-ffynnon, in August 2002 and
gradually turned it into the place we are visiting today. I had a good chat with Hilary and
she told me that she met the Third Doctor, Jon Pertwee, many years ago.

When I arrived I went into the ‘Oriel Amser’ (Gallery of Time )
which is a timeline of the 20th Century with memorabilia and
display of toys to look at. Next to this is a stable where you can
see costumes and traditions from Wales, and an antique toyshop
window ‘Siop Deganau’ displaying Welsh toys.
Next door is a barn full of little metal toys and an old school
room that shows you what school was like in Wales’ old days.
Next is the carthouse which contains train sets and a huge
collection of Action Man toys.

Finally we come to my favourite bit - the Doctor Who stuff in the Television and Film
Gallery! It contains lots of merchandise from film and television over the last 60 years.
At the entrance is a magnificent mural painted by Paul, depicting a Dalek exterminating a
TV , whilst the Eleventh Doctor and James Bond have a sonic weapon-off!

The room is crammed with Sci-Fi treasures including an original Dalek Dress-up suit from
1965. I would recommend any Doctor Who fans to go and see this collection.
There are A LOT of special Doctor Who treasures which have been happily collected and
displayed for you to enjoy. It was lovely to look at the toys and imagine what it would have
been like to be a Doctor Who fan 50 years ago and I even saw some items from my own
toybox. If you are ever in Carmarthenshire make sure you stop off and see it for yourself!

I hope you have enjoyed learning about this museum. If you would like to read about my
other Doctor Who adventures please check out my blog. Thanks for reading, goodbye!

I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger eating a chocolate egg so I said to him, “I wonder what
your favourite time of year is” He said, “Have to love Easter, baby.”

Derek J.Rolls

Independent Estate Agents & Valuers

What defines a great estate agent?

For most people buying or selling a property isn’t a straightforward transaction
and we don’t mean practically but emotionally. It is by definition life-changing.

As decisions go, buying and selling your home is a BIG one and along with
every other big decision that we end up making in our lifetimes there will
inevitably be periods of deep reflection as well as periods of doubt;
Am I doing the right thing? Is now the right time? What if? What if…..

A good agent will know that it is these human emotions that sit at the heart of
the property industry. A great estate agent however will actively go looking for
these emotions and will subtly guide their clients from uncertain to certain.
Why then do lots of today’s marketing campaigns have us believe that it is
all about the numbers; commission, average time on market, price achieved,
number of stars on feedback sites, etc…?

Cold statistics have always been the weapon of choice for those larger agents
lacking personality, in an attempt to convince their public, their shareholders
and sometimes even themselves that they are performing well. Whilst these
indices are of course important they do not necessarily define greatness.

There are a lot of confused strategies out there at the moment but we suspect
what will eventually emerge will be a two tier industry consisting of the
price driven, automated DIY offerings at one end with the professional, skilled
and emotionally connected at the other. With this in mind, you must soon start
to decide in which direction you will travel.

Statistics will temporarily bump you up the comparison sites just as sure as
cheap fees will buy you market share but neither will make you a great agent
unless you understand and connect with your client emotionally. There is an
intangible magic to providing great service that has to be earned.
It can be difficult for the accountants to quantify but to those that have it, it is
the biggest asset they possess.

Our aim is to do that bit extra to ensure a trouble free
sale or purchase of your property

Brain Power

1: At the local games evening, four teenagers were competing in the
draughts and chess competitions.
Finley beat Jesse in chess, Dale came third and the 16 year old won.
Finley came second in draughts, the 15 year old won, Dale beat the 18
year old and the 19 year old came third.
Kelly is 3 years younger than Jesse.
The person who came last in chess, came third in draughts and only one
person got the same position in both games.
Can you determine the ages of the people and their positions in the two
games?

2: I was having trouble sleeping last night and I tossed and turned well
into the night.
Our local town hall has a clock which strikes on the hour and also strikes
just once on the half hour.
During one of my more awake moments I heard the clock strike once, but
I could not tell what time it was. Half an hour later it struck once again,
but I still could not tell what time it was. Finally, half an hour later it
struck once again and I knew what the time was.

What time was it?

3: My first is in bridge, but not in ridge. My second is in awake and in
mistake. My third is in danger, but not in ranger. My fourth is in flange
and in orange. My fifth is in spline and in nine. My last is in river and in
diver. My whole likes the darkness.

What am I?

4: Place an arrow in each empty square.
Every arrow can either point left or right, but must point to a square
with a number. The numbers indicate the total number of arrows that
point at them.

5: My bath has two taps and a plug hole.
The cold tap on its own fills the bath in 18
minutes, the hot one in 15 minutes.
The plug hole can drain the bath in 10 minutes
with the taps off.

How long will the bath take to fill if I leave both taps
on with the plug left out?

The Old Carpet Right building in Charminster Road has turned into
a thriving Self Storage Business!

The Old Carpet Right building near Charminster crossroads has been renovated into a thriving
Self Storage business. Formerly Kwik Fit and then for a short time Carpet Right, the building
remained empty for 9 years.

A-Storage Director, Charlie Hounsell:
‘We completely renovated this building and have provided affordable self-storage units, as well as
serviced offices, virtual offices and a meeting room to hire.
The building was tired, so our refurbishment has been great, not only for our business but also for
the local community’.

Mandy Pike, Director of A-Storage: ‘We are very different to other self-storage companies.
Our décor is unique, warm and welcoming and this reflects our personal and bespoke service to
each and every client. People store with us when they are moving house, setting up a new business,
divorcing or are bereft. We take a genuine interest in our clients as well as offering them value for
money. We ensure we give a professional and friendly service’.

Charlie added how pleased they were with the response to their self-storage company in
the area: ‘We have a wealth of experience in self-storage and also own another facility in
Christchurch. However, we had not expected the amazing response we have had in Charminster’

If you require personal or business storage, A-Storage can be found at
203-205 Charminster Road BH8 9QQ

Young Billy and his family were invited to have Easter lunch at his grandmother’s house.
Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served. When Billy received his

plate he started eating straight away. ‘Billy, wait until we say grace,’ demanded his father.
‘I don’t have to,’ the five year old replied. ‘Of course you do, Billy,’ his mother insisted rather

forcefully. ‘We always say a prayer before eating at our house.’ ‘That’s at our house,’ Billy
explained, ‘but this is Grandma’s house, and she knows how to cook.’
........................

Sam bought a new fridge. The local council wanted £30 to take his old fridge to the recycling
centre. To save money he put it in his front garden with a sign that read,

‘Free to a good home. You want it, please take it.’ The fridge stood untouched for 4 days.
Sam decided to change his tactics. He made a sign saying, ‘Fridge for sale - £50.’
One day later the fridge disappeared... stolen!

Charlie was sitting quietly reading his paper when Suze, his wife, walked up behind him and
whacked him on the head with a magazine. ‘What was that for?’ he asked.

‘That was for the piece of paper I found in your trouser pocket with the name Molly May written
on it,’ she replied.

‘You remember I won some money on the Grand National? Molly May was the name of one of
the horses I bet on,’ Charlie explained. ‘Oh darling, I’m sorry,’ she said. ‘I should have known

there was a good explanation.’
Three days later Charlie was watching TV when Suze walked up behind him and hit him on
the head again, this time with a frying pan, knocking him out cold. When he came to, he asked,

‘What was that for?’ His wife replied, ‘Your horse just phoned!’

FOOT PAIN IS NOT NORMAL...

We should’nt put up with painful feet. Pain is an indication that something is wrong.
Many foot problems are related to wearing incorrect footwear.

When patients complain of foot pain,
I examine their feet and listen to what
they are saying .But my eyes are always
diverted down to look at the shoes
which very often are the cause of the
problem. When I express concern
about the footwear I am immediately
told “But you must be wrong as they
have worn this style of shoe for many
years AND THEY DON’T HURT!!”

An elderly Italian lady who’s problems
directly related to wearing ridiculous
fashion shoes was affronted when I suggested wearing trainers.
I thought she would probably not return but a year later she did wearing a trainer style
shoe I cut her nails we chatted about her family she didn’t mention any pain I didn’t
comment on her footwear.

So shoes are so important to healthy feet. It’s not just the style its how well the shoes fit.
There should be ½ an inch space beyond the longest toe and the end of the shoe. Feel
across the width of the shoe with the hand to make sure it’s not too tight. Lastly the heel
should fit in the back of the shoe and not slide up and down when walking.

I prefer a shoe with a Velcro strap or a lace up as they
give more support and they’re adjustable. Lace ups
when fastened should have a gap between the laces of
½ an inch. Most feet swell during the day so it’s better
to buy shoes in the afternoon. Shoes are so important,
do not impulse buy, shoes bought in the sales cannot
be returned so they not always the best choice.

So to reiterate...

Laughing lowers levels of stress hormones and strengthens the immune system. Six
year olds laugh an average of 300 times a day, though sadly, laughs for adults are more
in the region of 15 to 100 times a day, but then we don’t get tickled as often!

Howdy folks I am Toby, a handsome American Bulldog cross with
soft fur that is so good to touch. I am looking for a lively home
that will be big enough for my goofy play. I am very well behaved
indoors and out. I walk well on the lead most times but still need
training with that. I like running around so if you have a big
garden that would be a bonus. The best toy I have is a rope with
knots on it, I can keep myself entertained with that for some time.
It’s such fun shaking it around that I get dizzy, hence the goofy play. I know the basics such as sit,
stay, leave and some other stuff but I would like to learn more. If you have the time to teach me I
will be your best student. Please call the office to find out how to get to meet me.

Ps: I give good hugs

Rules For The Movies...

It does not matter if you are heavily outnumbered in a fight involving martial
arts, your enemies will wait patiently to attack you one by one, dancing around
in a threatening manner until you have knocked them out one at a time.
When you turn out the light to go to bed, everything in your bedroom will still
be clearly visible, just slightly bluish, the same way that you can see at night.
If you are a pretty blue eyed blonde, it is possible to become a world expert on
nuclear fission, archaeology, or computer programing etc at the age of 22.
Should you wish to pass yourself off as a German or Russian officer it will not be
necessary to speak the language. A German or Russian accent will do.
The Eiffel Tower can be seen from any window in Paris.
A man will show no pain while taking the most ferocious beating, but will wince
when a woman tries to clean his wounds.
All bombs are fitted with electronic timing devices with large red readout’s so
you know exactly when they’re going to go off.
Computers never take time to switch on and load, but the screen will always say
“Enter password now”, and laptops are always ‘Apple’.

MTA Business Focus
Dean Robertson

My name is Dean Robertson and I’m and Independent
Financial Planner who is lucky enough to live locally in the
Redhill area so have lots of chances to walk Timmy my Jack
Russel over the park.

I’m married, have two grown up children and now two
beautiful Granddaughters. When I’m not working I enjoy the
outdoors, whether out on my bike or just wandering around
with my camera snapping at the scenery.
The title on my business card is ‘Dean Robertson Dip PFS, Cert CII (MP &ER)’ which looks
impressive, lots of qualifications etc but in reality, I really just enjoy helping people.
Finance can be a dry subject and can be very confusing and it’s easy to be lost in the complex
ideas and jargon. I break it down for people so they understand what they have and what they
actually need.

A huge need for people these days is with their pension and retirement planning. So many
people get their annual statements through and if they are read they are rarely understood.
Is it doing what they hoped? People are aware of pension flexibility but what actually does that
mean to them and what options should they take when the time comes?
That’s where I can help.

I’ve chosen to work with the local firm of Strategic Solution Financial Planners as I’ve known
the people involved for many years and know that care for their clients is the top priority.
This is evidenced by the long list of awards received by the firm including the Moneyfacts
Investment Adviser of the year award 2015 and 2017 as well as highly commended in 2016.
We are the only firm to win it twice. A major factor in the judging of the award is real client
feedback so it’s an award that we are justly proud of. If you need some help please let me know
and if you see me walking Timmy in the park say ‘Hi’.

April / May. New Gardeners Tips for Sowing & Growing.

Experienced gardeners and plotters have probably been setting seeds of different varieties for the past
couple of months now but April sowing is not too late. Have a go and good luck.
Seed Compost : This can be specially prepared or a general purpose compost. If a general compost do
sieve out the lumpy bits and add some sharp sand to assist drainage.
Damping Off : Seeds do not like to be waterlogged, it may cause a fungal rot which is commonly called
‘Damping Off’. It is recognisable by seemingly healthy seedlings keeling over and dying at the ground
level.
Where to Sow : Depending on the variety this can be done inside the home, a greenhouse or directly in
the soil. Nowadays my wife sets almost all her seeds in Multi Cell Trays, a few
to a pot or singly depending on the plant. Sowing in damp compost is often
better than watering the compost afterwards. Too many seeds are ruined by
overwatering, many less die from want of water.
N.b. Larger Seed such as Melon / Cucumber sow singly. Pea / Bean size sow
3 to 4 per cell or pot. These larger seeds can be started off by placing on damp
kitchen roll in a take away tray and placed in the airing cupboard to ‘Chit’. Keep a keen eye on the seeds
until the first signs of root growth (chit) appear before potting on. Very small seeds can be sprinkled over
the surface of the compost then covered with a fine layer of compost or vermiculite. Always provide good
light for growing seedlings.

Sowing outside requires good soil preparation, it should be as fine as you can get it and if possible spread
some Blood, Fish & Bone fertilizer a few days before sowing. Mark out the lines (drills) you intend to
sow, straight lines make measuring easier. At the recommended depth, sow as directed before gently
covering with soil. Do not forget to label your rows and cover with a net cloche for bird protection.
Pricking Out, Hardening Off & Growing On : Pricking out or thinning is done to help your new
seedlings grow stronger prior to planting in position or ‘growing on’. When the seedlings have 2 good
leaves or first true leaves of the plant you can prick out and plant individually into further cells or pots.
At this time the plant is tender, so handle them by the leaf only. Once they are stronger you may decide
the time is right to ‘harden off’ by moving the young plants into a cold frame or protected position before
planting out or ‘growing on’. Some plants will need potting on a few times before they can go outside. In
any case do not be in too much of a hurry to do so and always bring them in if there is a danger of a cold
wind or frost.

Thinning Out & Inter Cropping : It is most likely that outside sowings have become overcrowded.
That is to say each individual plant will not have enough space to grow into maturity. If so you will
have to ‘Thin Out’ to sacrifice some of the seedlings to create space, discard or try to re-plant in another
prepared row.
Where you have limited space coupled with unlimited enthusiasm you might like to try your hand at

‘Inter-Cropping’. This is the technique whereby you can increase your
variety of crops by sneaking in additional rows of other plants. When the
initial crop is reaching the later stages of maturity you can sow or plant
seedlings close by in another row thus doubling your productivity. There
are some easy examples for new growers such as….Lettuces accompanied
by Radishes….Garlic accompanied by Carrots.…Onions accompanied
by Beetroot….Florence Fennel accompanied by Rocket & Lamb’s
Lettuce and loads more ideas. Have a go, it can be great fun.
