Work & Student Work Portfolio - 2019

concept inspiration

Cool tones of blues and grays will mimic the 51
abundance of lakes the country is known for
and create a sense of calmness and serenity.
The use of industrial elements such as metal
and wood will provide varying textures and

the use of organic lines throughout will
provide a sense of movement, and unity.
Natural light will be a focus to bring the
beauty of the outdoors in and create a
harmony among the many features in the

space.

The goal of this project was to design the
headquarters of an up and coming

Dot-com Company (such as Google, Facebook,
etc..). The founders have built their company
values around the saying “work hard, play hard
Incorporating fun into the work environment

is vital to them and their company values.
They also revolve highly around collaboration

and open communication. Therefore, they
preferred an open office concept with
teaming areas scattered among the
employee workstations to promote
collaboration.

Angles and symmetry will be used throughout 55
the space to create a sophisticated, yet

structured design that embodies the image
of the company. A neutral palette with pops
of bright colors will enhance the features of
the space while creating harmony among the

different spaces and floors. A blend of
textures and unique design elements will
bring the concept and the overall design

together in one space.

Library &

classroom

The goal of this project was to redesign the Seminole
state Oviedo campus library and adjacent classroom
space. The library is transitioning from classes being held
in the open space of the library to the old A/v space which
will become a new active learning space. The idea of the
classroom is to have modular furniture that can support
different types of instruction including lecture, team and
collaboration settings. The existing space was staying the
same in terms of the walls, ceiling and windows but the

following requirement were requested;

• A secondary exit off the north wall
• Closing up the entry from the west wall
• Adding a lounge/reception area for students to rest

between class and for the instructors desk
• Lots of storage for art supplies/paper/printer

60 commercial• team PROJECT – responsible for LIBRARY classroom space
• PROGRAMS USED: REVIT│AUTOCAD│PHOTOSHOP

concept inspiration

Students will feel more engaged in the space by providing 61
an active learning environment where different creative
and collaborative settings radiate out from the center of
the room. The repetition of the natural wood texture will
create a symmetrical linear surrounding while also adding
a unique separation from other learning environments.
Using the wood elements as a cantilever in both spaces
will spark interest as well as add better acoustics where
students can feel more focused. The calm colors used
throughout the space will be used to help students feel

more relaxed and create areas that are conducive to
learning and concentration.

metamorphosis

The goal of this project was to design a small vocational
facility located anywhere that will serve as an

educational and training space for individuals with ASD
and other cognitive disabilities. The purpose of the center

is to increase the quality of life for individuals on the
spectrum and their families. The space must be designed

with Universal Design principles and comply with all
accessibility codes with the following requirements:
• The center will contain a reception area, flexible
multipurpose classroom, crafts area, mock
apartment, office spaces for the director of training
and 2 trainers plus an exercise space and a separate
sensory space with connection to the outdoors
courtyard.
• Spaces should be designed to address the sensory
sensitivities individuals with ASD experience and
provide ease of access to those who are mobility
impaired.
• Create branding and logo to reflect the overall design
and concept of the space.

concept inspiration

The butterfly is a symbol of growth and change which occurs 67
through the process of metamorphosis. When individuals are

in this space they are participating in their own form of
metamorphosis and adapting to better thrive within their
environment. Just as there are three stages to this process
for a butterfly, at Metamorphosis we encourage individuals to

start off as a ‘caterpillar’ by learning and exploring the
environment how they perceive it currently and then
through various forms of education and interactions, they
are changing and able to grow within their own space or

‘cocoon’ to transform into a more sustainable, and
independent lifestyle.

Research in healthcare has proven that color
and environment are extremely influential to

patients and their families. Recent studies
have shown that using colors such as blues

and greens can promote a calm, healing
environment that reduces stress and makes
an extended stay more comfortable. Research
has also shown that in some cases, color can

help patients with longer periods of
treatment at the facility feel as though time

is passing quicker than in spaces where the
colors were different or non-extent.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES
1. To create a supportive and family-focused

healing environment.
2. To put emphasis on education and after

treatment for the patient and families.
3. To create a stress free and mentally

healthy environment for staff, patients
and their families.
4. To provide a functional and high-end design
that will replicate the care being provided
and support the staff and patients.
5. To promote a safe and germ-free
environment for the patients and their
families, as well as the staff.
