PRODUCT OVERVIEW
BP Sunbury, UK. Architects: Broadway Malyan
Welcome
As the world’s leading supplier of polished
plaster, innovative surface finishes and
sculptural effects, Armourcoat has become
an integral part of some of the world’s
most prestigious architectural projects.
Since its origins in specialist hard plasters
for squash courts – a reminder of the
unrelenting punishment the material can
take – Armourcoat has gone on to create a
revival of interest in the ancient technique
of polished plaster. The company was quick
to see the potential for an attractive, hard
wearing, luxury finish that is equally suited
to modern and traditional interiors.
Today, the company has grown and diversified
into a wide range of decorative surface
finishes. Through an ongoing research and
development programme, Armourcoat are
able to offer products which provide quality
surface finish solutions for all decorative
design and application requirements.
For the architect and designer, Armourcoat
products present a wealth of creative
potential. For the client, they offer a
comfortable, more durable interior, healthy
to live in, less costly to maintain and helping
protect the environment. Many of our
product lines are made from natural minerals,
including recycled marble powder. Being
inherently variable, we go to great lengths
to ensure the quality and consistency of all
our finished products.
Armourcoat has a global network of agents
and specialist applicators able to offer
high quality service and installation across
the world. Through our vertical integration;
product research and development,
manufacturing, contracting and worldwide
technical support, we offer the highest level of
quality, delivering complete client confidence.
Whilst our products are available in an
extensive range of colours and finishes, these
are by no means the full extent of what can be
achieved. All the Armourcoat products have
unrivalled creative potential and, in the right
hands, can be transformed into unique wall
finishes. The only limit is your imagination.

effects with the look and feel of stone. These
hard and durable castings, although lightweight,
can reproduce almost any architectural shape
that can be made in conventional GRG.
ArmourCast is a unique composition of crushed
limestone, marble and gypsum. The material
and manufacture process are ideally suited to
creating shapes and designs that are too
complex for a hand applied finish. Available in a
range of natural stone colours, crushed marble
powders are combined in varying proportions
to create natural tones without pigment. In
addition to the wide range of standard
products, Armourcoat offer a full technical
service from design to manufacture and
instalation, to produce bespoke designs such as
modular solutions for shop-fitting applications,
to original sculptures and ornaments.
Available in twelve natural colours, ArmourCast
can be finished in either a honed or fissured
effect. The honed finish creates a smooth
marbleised effect, with a dense, compacted
surface, creating the appearance and feel of
lightly polished stone. The fissured effect gives
the appearance of a monolithic stone surface
or a natural stone block.'

Sculptural™ is a range of seamless Quilt
sculptural wall surface designs.
FLOW WAVE FLOW RIBBONS JET STREAM
Sculptural™ walls are constructed
from a series of pre-cast panels FLOW STRAIGHT CORAL SHOCK WAVE QUILT
that are bonded to the substrate.
The panel joints are then filled and HOUR GLASS LEAVES MONROE BERGMAN
sanded and a final decoration is
applied to the surface. Sculptural™
designs are created by combining
computer-aided design with
traditional hand sculpting to create
designs that fit together with total
accuracy yet retain the essence of
being hand crafted.
Some of the designs are based on a
single panel that creates a repeating
pattern; others are made from a
sequence of different panels that
can be integrated together in many
different ways to create totally unique
sculpted walls. The multiple panel
designs make it possible to create
non-repetitive seamless sculptural

walls need ever be identical.

SMOOTH
The Smooth polished finish is Bullring Shopping Centre, England. Architects: Benoy
similar to the marmorino stucco,
used extensively in northern Italy
during the Renaissance period as an
internal and external wall finish and
as a background for the ornate
frescoes which dominated much of
the decoration of that time. It is
this combination of material and
technique that is now widely
regarded as Venetian plaster.
The final appearance of this finish
is very dependent on the hand of
the individual applicator, making
it possible to achieve anything
from a plain, lightly polished
surface to a more highly burred
and marbleised effect.

Travertine Daniel Galvin, England. Design: Caulder Moore
The Travertine finish has a light open Sun Life, England. Architects: SOM
texture and a directional quality similar to Dragged
that of natural travertine stone. The surface
has a low sheen, and although applied in
just one colour appears to have two or
three distinctly separate tones running
through the surface. This finish can work
well in colours across the spectrum as it
is possible to achieve the subtle tonal
contrasts in both light and dark colours.
Pitted
The rugged, more grainy appearance of
the Pitted finish combines with a less highly
polished surface to create the appearance
and feel of honed or lightly polished
limestone. It is most effective when used
to create the appearance of a monolithic
stone surface or a natural stone block.
The Pitted finish is seen to best effect in
lighter or natural stone colours and can
benefit greatly from acute downlighting
to accentuate the slightly pitted nature
of the surface.
Dragged
Inspired by the patterning of weathered
rock, the Dragged finish is another
Armourcoat development – both in
technique and specialist tools. Using
the same basic ingredients as the Pitted
finish, the rugged, grainy, yet semi-polished
surface is characterised by striations of
texture running through the surface to
give a strong directional quality.

COLOURWASH
Metallic Finish
The Pitted or Dragged finishes can be
further enhanced by the application of a
Colourwash. A transparent glaze combined
with pure pigment, metallic or pearlescent
powder is applied to the plaster, enriching
the surface, imparting contrasts of colour
and subtle variations of tone.
The Colourwash finish, with its rich tones
is ideal for large walls, feature areas and
dramatic display backdrops, especially when
combined with creative or dramatic lighting.
The Pearlescent and Metallic glaze is a
luxurious manner of finishing decorative
plaster. Without substantially altering the
plaster colour, Pearlescent glaze imparts a
subtle sparkle or shimmer. The glaze can
be applied to almost any surface, but is
seen to its best advantage on Pitted or
Dragged finishes. When colourwashed, the
glaze is held in the surface, dramatising
texture and directional effect, the pigment
or other additive deepens and highlights
the overall context. It is a powerful finish;
demanding attention and interest, perfect
for feature screens and areas where a
strong directional effect is sought.
