Glebe Primary COVID 19 update Martch 2020

Glebe Primary
March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

I wanted to send you all a quick note this morning
following on from last night’s announcements by the
Prime Minister and First Minister.

In Scotland and the rest of the UK the response
involves keeping schools open as long as possible. I am
aware this contrasts with action elsewhere and with
other elements of the UK approach which recommend
working from home, social distancing and so on,
however, we have to follow the advice as it stands.

As of this morning we have two teachers, one
classroom assistant and one clerical office
administration assistant self-isolating. Please bear with
us if we are not able to answer telephone calls quickly,
pupil welfare takes precedence above all else.

This is a quick update to some of your most frequently
asked questions:

 If a pupil or staff member (or anyone in their
household) develops a new persistent cough or fever

then they should not come to school – or should be
sent home if symptoms arise when at school. They
should remain home for 14 days.
 Following a change to Government advice yesterday,
if pupils or staff have an underlying health condition
(one that would lead them to being offered the Flu
vaccination) then they shouldn’t attend school. This
means some staff will be working from home,
reducing our staffing levels. This may mean we
double up classes.
 Many of you raised concerns about washing hands.
The soap hasn’t changed however the frequency of
hand washing may irritate and dry out skin,
moisturiser may help.
 Our school catering team have taken away the self-
serve salad bar and will instead serve all items to
children.
 All contact numbers must be up to date. We have
several families whose emergency contact details are
void. This must be rectified immediately.
 School clubs have ceased for now, in the main part
due to staffing issues.
 Teachers are sending or have sent home log in
details for our digital platforms e.g. Seesaw, Glow.
Please check schoolbags. The children already know
how to use these however this week teachers are
spending time reminding children how to log on etc.

 In the event of school closures we will keep you
updated on twitter, please download this if you
haven’t already. We will also share information with
the PTA/PC so they can post it on the parent/carer
Facebook page.

Please remember that schools are following guidance
and working on the most current information which is
subject to change. We will keep you updated as the
situation develops.

Thanks you for your support.
