Message from the Headteacher
Dear Parents/Carers,
It’s been another busy month at Glebe Primary. Our
February fundraiser was a huge success, the children loved
the activities; especially the tuck shop with home baking!
Thanks to your support we raised a tremendous £1255.59
for school funds.
The money raised will help fund the Summer trips which
are now booked. The PTA/PC have kindly agreed to pay the
buses for the trips, which is a great saving for families. The
school will pay the remaining costs for P1-6 and will
subsidise the P7 trip by £5 per head. To reiterate, this
wouldn’t be possible without your support so thank you!
We continue to collect food for the local foodbank at
Monday’s assemblies so thank you to the families who send
items in. Thanks also to those who donate dressing up
costumes etc. for the uniform rail.
Recycle for Scotland are running a ‘Pass it on Week’ from
7th-15th March and North Ayrshire have asked schools to
get involved. Mrs. Dickson and P2 will be organising ‘The
Great Toy Rescue’. More details will follow as P2 are busy
planning how to do this, however in the meantime you can
send toys in with the children or put items in the donation
box situated at reception. We are looking toys, puzzles, and
games etc. that are in good condition.
We are also continuing to collect packaging plastic for the
Riley Bin project. We should soon have enough to make a
bench for the playground, a special thanks to the support
from some of our parents who own shops and have been
donating their plastic to us.
You may have noticed our Willow garden has been
trimmed. Our P3 classes have been working with volunteers
from the Scottish Wildlife Trust and learning how to prune,
replant cuttings and to weave ‘whips’ into the willow
structure. Our harvested willow will be used to make
willow defenses on the banks of the River Irvine to reduce
environmental erosion.
Please read on for more school news and dates of school
events.
I hope to see many of you at the next PTA/Parent Council
meeting on the 16th March at 6pm.
In partnership

Communication
Schools now have to pay for texts messages which
is proving costly therefore we are trying to limit
how often we send non-urgent texts. We
are currently looking to move over to a
school app system- we will keep you
posted once we have more information.
Remember to check the dates section of the
newsletter, new information is highlighted in
yellow. Our twitter feed is also a good source of
information as is SeeSaw.
Please note any comments made on SeeSaw
will not be addressed. This is a platform to share
children’s work and we encourage you to make
comments regarding this work. If you wish to raise
any concerns or make any complaints please use
official channels by phoning and requesting an
appointment or use the official Glebe email
address. Thank you
The date for the next meeting is Monday 16th
March at 6pm in the Watersports Club Irvine.
As always new parents/carers are very
welcome.
The next fundraising event
is a Family Bingo night on
Thursday 19th March
from 6-8pm.
The last Bingo night was a huge
success and we hope to see you
all making this one a great night too.
Please contact the Parent Facebook page or a
member of the PTA/PC if you wish to help or
if you require further information.
Staffing Update
We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Baird back to
P5. Mrs. Baird will be working Mondays and
Tuesdays. Mrs. Gall will continue to work
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
CLUBS
We have a great relationship with Lauren Fletcher
our Active Schools Coordinator who works closely
with Miss. Russell to facilitate the many
afterschool clubs we have on offer. This term we
have homework, running, football, dance, STEM,
chess and multi-sports clubs- wow! I’m sure you’ll
join me in thanking both Lauren, the volunteer
coaches and the school staff who give up their own
time to support the clubs we offer to the children
of Glebe Primary.
If you have skills you could share and have an idea
for a club please get in touch.
Attendance and
Late-coming
March is North Ayrshire’s Attendance focus
month. Research shows low attendance and regular
late-coming has a massive detrimental impact on
children’s attainment. Headteachers in all North
Ayrshire schools are duty bound to address this
with parents/carers and work together to make
improvements. Parents/carers of the children
whose attendance has fallen below 90% receive
letters asking them to meet with a member of the
school leadership team to address concerns; this
happens in all NAC schools. If you receive a letter
we ask that you contact the school in order for us
to discuss how to support better attendance.
Most days around 10/20 children are still arriving
late for school. As you can imagine this is very
disruptive to their education but also disruptive to
the class as a whole. Many of the children who are
late appear at various times of the morning which
is hugely concerning as they appear to be travelling
on their own without adult supervision. Some
children are late almost every day.
We would ask that all children who are arriving
more than a few minutes late are brought to school
and signed in by an adult. If you have particular
difficulties we are not aware of then please
contact the school.
World Book Day
We are very excited about this year’s World Book Day
on Thursday 5th March. We’ve received lots of books
ready for the book swap and the children are enjoying
participating in the ‘Author Off’ activity. They are also
loving the ‘Guess Who’s Reading’ wall trying to guess
which staff member is behind the book.
We have lots of great reading and book activities
organised for Thursday. As always we want to remind
families that we don’t want to make this a costly event,
we ask that you don’t purchase expensive costumes.
Children can of course wear costumes if they wish, or
they can wear their favourite PJs and bring their
favourite book to read.
Valentine disco
Our children had a great time at this year’s
Valentine discos. A huge thanks to the
Parents/Carers who helped make this such a huge
success.
DALGUISE 2020
Our P7s had an amazing time at this year’s residential
trip to Dalguise in Perth. We are already preparing for
next year’s trip which is at Arran Outdoor Centre. P6
families please speak to us if you require more
information.
