Message from the Head Teacher

Dear Parents/Carers,

It’s December! We can officially mention ‘Christmas’. This is
one of the most magical times in the school calendar. Christmas
parties, Christmas lunch, the visit to the ‘Big Panto’ and of
course our amazing PTA/PC Christmas Fayre this coming
Saturday, 7th December from 10am-12pm.

We are still looking for donations for the fayre; raffle prizes,
bottles, chocolate, home baking etc. Anything at all is
gratefully received. Any offers of help should be directed to the
Parent Council who are still looking for offers to man
tables/stalls. The Fayre is a great fundraiser for the school, with
all the money raised directly benefitting children. We hope to
see you all there!

Lots of children have been asking about wearing Christmas
jumpers. As per Glebe tradition, jumpers/tinsel/head boppers are
worn for the Christmas lunch which is on Wednesday 11th
December. However, if your child wishes to wear their Christmas
jumper throughout December they may 

Read on for further details about arrangements including the
Panto, Infant Nativity, and Christmas Parties.

In partnership

Elaine McNeil
Head Teacher

#ProudGlebies

Lots of children have been sharing their ‘out of
school’ achievements with their class and with Mrs.
McNeil. They love getting their photos taken at
the ‘Wings Wall’, and seeing their picture displayed
with their speech bubble. They love to tell us why
they’re proud- and we love celebrating their
success.

INFORMATION

Parking

In recent weeks two children in North
Ayrshire have been really badly hurt in traffic
accidents outside their schools. We can’t
stress how important it is that parents/carers
park and drive safely around our school.
With poor weather and reduced light
conditions are dangerous. Please consider car
sharing with other families, parking and
striding a little further back from the school,
or if possible leaving the car at home. If you
do need to park near the school please do so
safely ensuring you are not parking in the
turning circle or on the yellow lines. Only
parents/carers with blue badges may park in
school grounds, unless they have made a
special arrangement with the Head Teacher
e.g. if a child has a broken leg.

Dogs in the Playground

Please be reminded that the only animals
allowed inside our school gates and in our
playground are service animals such as guide
dogs for the blind. We have had lots of
parents/carers/visitors entering the
playground carrying small dogs, however these
dogs, although very cute, are still not
permitted to be in the playground.

This is not just about the issue of dog fouling,
many children are scared of dogs and our
playgrounds have to be safe spaces.

Thank you for understanding.

We’re in the finals!

A huge well done to our P7 Athletics Team who
performed brilliantly at the North Ayrshire
School Athletics Competition at the Portal last
month. They showed great determination and
amazing sportsmanship. We are so very proud
of them all.
We wish them luck in the finals which is later
this week Thursday 5th December.

Cinema Trip

Our P6 and P7 pupils enjoyed a morning at the cinema as
part of the ‘Into Film’ initiative. It was a very sad film
about a dog and children, parents/carers and staff found
it very emotional. There were more than a few tears 
Thankfully there was also a happy ending! All the
children said it was a great experience and have a better
understanding of how we can use emotion to tell a story.

SUMDOG

Thank you to the families
who are supporting the
use of Sumdog at home.
Our children scored
highly in the recent
North Ayrshire
Competition-super news!

Additional School Closure Day

The Scottish Government recently announced
that the Public Holiday which was historically
held on the first Monday of May each year will be
moved in May 2020 to Friday 8 May. This move
is to coincide with the commemorations for the
75th Anniversary of VE Day.

The first Monday in May has traditionally been
linked to recognising International Workers’ Day.
The Cabinet of North Ayrshire Council recently
approved a proposal to reinstate the May Day
holiday as an additional holiday for 2020 only.
Your child’s school will therefore be closed on
Monday 4 May 2020 and Friday 8 May 2020.
This additional school closure day has also been
approved by the Scottish Government.

Yours sincerely

Audrey Sutton

Interim Executive Director

Panto Time…

This year Glebe Primary are going to see Snow White at
the SEC Armadillo in Glasgow. We are very excited!!!

Children should wear their school uniform with the
option of a small Santa hat, set of head boppers or
some tinsel. Nothing big to ensure they don’t block the
view of the child behind them

The children will be having a playtime at 10am. We plan
to have a brunch instead of a lunch from 11.15-11.45am
The Catering team will be serving rolls with link
sausages, rolls with burgers, cheese toasties,
sandwiches etc. As per a normal school day children in
receipt of free school meals and all P1-3 children will
eat for free. All other children can bring a packed
brunch/lunch from home or purchase one from school.

Children can take a snack and drink for the
performance if they wish. No glass bottles or cans.

We plan on leaving the Armadillo at 3.30pm. Taking
account of traffic in Glasgow we anticipate a return to
school around 5pm.

Due to the large number of children attending and the
fact it will be dark at this time we ask parents/carers to
collect children from their class doors.

…oh yes it is!

INFORMATION

Infant Nativity

Our Primary one and two pupils will be starring in
a Nativity this year. We have two performances
planned on Thursday 12th December at 2 pm and
6pm.

Please let your child’s teacher know if your child
isn’t able to participate in the evening
performance.

All P1 pupils will be provided with a costume. P2
pupils should wear a Christmas jumper, Santa hat,
Christmas boppers, tinsel etc.

Letters about tickets will be in school bags this
week. With such a large school and such a small
hall families will be offered the opportunity to get
two tickets. Any spare tickets will be balloted.

Christmas Parties

This year’s Christmas parties are as follows:
P1 and P2 Friday 13th at 1pm
P3 and P4 Monday 16th at 1pm
P5 and P6 Wednesday 18th at 1pm
P7 Thursday 19th at 1pm

If your child is going home for lunch please send
a note in to their teacher. Alternatively children
can bring their party clothes in a bag with their
name, and we will help them get changed in
school.

Church Service

Our end of term church service will be at the Irvine
Old Parish Church on Friday 20th December at
9.30am
Please come along to support the school.

#BE THE KIND KID

We are trying to emphasis the importance of
being kind to others, giving compliments and
doing kind acts for each other. We have a
kindness tree in our reception area where
children and staff can honour kind acts. This
sign was delivered and will take pride of place
in our gym hall. Thanks to Owen Kerr signs.

Staffing Update

After many years in the school Mrs. J Dickson
has decided to retire. We are sad to see her go
but wish her well in her retirement. She stops on
the last day of term…however, she has promised
to come back and help if we are really
stuck…and we plan to hold her to that!

We also say goodbye to Miss C Dailly who has
been covering Miss Baird’s days in P5. Miss
Dailly has secured a fulltime position in another
local authority. She starts in January. Although
sad for us at Glebe we wish Miss Dailly well in
her new post.

Miss Baird continues to be off and we continue to
wish her well. We are working as hard as we can
to find another teacher for Mondays and
Tuesdays in P5. We hope to have an update on
who is covering before we return in January.
