Message from the Head Teacher

Dear Parents/Carers,

We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge welcome
back to all the children in the school including the new pupils
who have joined us in Primary one and across the school. It is
good to see all our children wearing their school uniform so
proudly and setting a good example in the school community.
Please remember we have lots of almost new uniform in the
front reception area so please help yourself.

We are looking forward to many events over the coming weeks
including; author visits, the ‘Meet the Teacher’ drop in afternoon
and the House Elections.

We are continuing to focus on improving attendance and late-
coming and promoting safe parking. We appreciate the many
families who are very supportive of the school’s work in these
areas.

Please read on for more information and dates for the diary.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you wish to discuss
any concerns or make any suggestions to school improvement.

In partnership

Elaine McNeil
Head Teacher

INFORMATION

School Office
Please note our office is only staffed from
8.30am-4pm. Some teaching staff are in at
8am but they are unable to answer phones or
take messages. Please call the school during
office times.

School Absence
Can I please remind you to give the school
office a quick ring by 9.30am if your child is
going to be absent. If we haven't heard from
you despite phoning and texting and we are
unable to determine where your child is, we
have been advised to follow child protection
procedures. In rare circumstances this would
mean involving the Police or Child Protective
Services. A quick phone-call would avoid this.

Medicines
We would remind you that you should contact
the office if your child(ren) require any
medicines including inhalers, Piriton, etc.
whilst at school. Medicine can only be
administered if there is signed consent. All
medicines have to be clearly labelled in the
original containers. Staff can only administer
medicine after they have witnessed the parent
administer the first dose. All medicines are
held in the school medical office and
administered by the staff once the necessary
paperwork is completed.

IMPORTANT!
New Catering Regulations
North Ayrshire Catering department is
committed to healthy meals. Scottish
government guidelines have resulted in
changes to menus. Ham has been removed
from all schools and juice is now only available
on special themed days.

Menus can be found here:
https://www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/education-
and-learning/school-meals/school-lunches.aspx

New regulations around allergies mean new
dietary/medical needs request forms have
been issued to some families. These must be
signed by a medical professional e.g. GP or
dietician. Once the forms have been returned
a meeting will be arranged with the catering
supervisor.

PLAYGROUND
SUPERVISION

Our playgrounds are still very busy places in the morning which can be
very distressing for young children. We have tried to make staff more
recognisable as they wear high visibility vests and are located near the
gates to monitor children trying to leave the premises. We have told the
children they don’t need to line up until the bell has gone and would ask
that parents/carers try to stand back from the lines once the children have
lined up. We have also taken the decision to lock most of the gates during
the day as we have some new P1 ‘escape artists’.

Staff take child protection and safeguarding seriously. We are aware of
estranged parents/carers who try to make contact with their children
during break times. Staff are quick to ask the child to go inside and the
adult to move on to avoid distressing the child.

Furthermore all playgrounds are supervised by staff and we always
approach anyone we don’t recognise or anyone behaving in a concerning
manner.

Lastly class teachers have reminded pupils they don’t speak to any adults
outside the playgrounds and they report concerns to staff immediately.

FIT TRAIL PLAY EQUIPMENT

Reminder

We had previously indicated that North
Ayrshire’s Health and Safety Advisor had said
the play equipment should not be used before
and after school.

Parents/carers continue to allow their children
to use this. One parent suggested we put up a
disclaimer however NAC has said this does not
suffice and the school and authority ‘could’
still be liable if there were to be any
accidents.

We do not wish to spoil anyone’s enjoyment
however we have to follow North Ayrshire’s
advice and remind families that the play trail
should only be used during the school day,
under the supervision of staff who have
carried out relevant risk assessments.

Parent Council/ PTA

Glebe benefits from having a very proactive Parent
Council and PTA who do a fabulous job of fundraising
and supporting the school. Meetings are normally held the
first Monday of most months.

Our first meeting is the annual AGM, where we hope to
see as many of you here as possible. So please put Monday
9th September, here at Glebe Primary in your diary.

Food bank donations

Last session we read that the foodbank in Girdle
Toll and the one at the local Salvation Army had to
close due to lack of supplies. We know that these
foodbanks are very important to some of the Glebe
community.
Our school community would like to collect for
these two local foodbanks. This session we will
collect any spare nonperishable items at Monday
Assemblies- ‘Monday’s Meals’
Items such as tins, cereals, pastas would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks from the Charity Committee.

Please find a list of dates for information we have to
date including some class assemblies/showcases.

As new items are added they will be added to subsequent
newsletters and highlighted in yellow.
