1. FUWAIRIT BEACH
The sea is calm, warm and shallow making it
perfect for young children to practice their
swimming skills, splash around and explore
the seabed. The shallow water gets deeper
very gradually, which means that you can relax
on the beach whilst looking out at your
children, safe in the knowledge that there isn't
a sudden drop in depth. Older children and
adults can venture a bit further and enjoy a
proper swim in the sea. Being a
northeast-facing beach you won't catch the
sunset here, but you could always pitch a tent
and wake up just in time to watch the sunrise.
It is a popular camping spot and some lucky
campers have reported seeing dolphins. Do
not forget to take food and drinks with you; as
there are no refreshment outlets nearby. If you
haven't had a chance to prepare a picnic, there
are plenty of good service stations en route
selling snacks and drinks. (23)
2. AL MAROONA BEACH (French Beach)
Situated on the northeastern tip of Qatar, just
before Fuwairit Beach, Al Maroona is a natural
treasure trove; the sand is soft and golden and
the sea a big, warm paddling pool full of
fascinating sea life to explore: starfish, tiny
hermit crabs, plenty of fish and even a turtle!
Visitors may see jellyfish as well; the clarity of
the water makes them very easy to spot. (24)

should opt for longer shorts or trousers and
take caution with being shirtless. Women
should ideally cover their shoulders and knees
and refrain from wearing revealing swim suits.

1. AL ZUBARAH FORT
Al Zubarah fort serves as a pristine example of
a typical Arab fort built using the traditional
Qatari technique. The Coast Guard used the
sturdy fort as a station until the mid 1980s
when it was turned into a museum to display
findings uncovered in the nearby Al Zubarah
archeological area.
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Qassim Al Thani built
the fort in 1938 on the ruins of an older castle
that had been destroyed. It was constructed
with high, thick walls that would last for
countless decades and would serve to protect
those inside. (17)
2. SOUQ AL WAKRA
Commonly known as the second Souq
Waqif, Souq Al Wakra is located behind Al
Wakrah Petrol station next to the port and
is merely a two-minute drive away from the
popular Family beach. The market boasts a
few dozen shops, cafes and restaurants
with a 3km coastline with a Corniche for
people to walk along. Visiting this Souq is
not a hassle as there is a huge parking lot
right outside the business area that can
accommodate several hundred vehicles.
The souq looks like a cross between
Qatar's original Souq Waqif and Katara
Cultural Village. The Al Wakrah market will
eventually be home to hundreds of shops
and eateries. (7)

activity pool, a multiple slides complex, a
family pool, a Spaceboat, a boomerango and
an exotic village. The Park is closed on
Mondays (unless mentioned otherwise).

country or have a work visa.
Qatar does not quarantine
cats and dogs that meet the
following requirements. All
requirements also apply to

traveling from the United
States or Canada.
YA HALA KIT | 78

If you are traveling to Qatar from
another country, then the Governing
Authority responsible for the import
and export of animals should endorse
the forms for you.
Qatar requires that you obtain an
Import Permit from the Department of
Animal Resources. Your pet's health
certificate and rabies vaccination
must be included in the application.
The permit is good for 30 days.
All domestic dogs and cats must be
free of evidence of disease
communicable to humans when
examined at the entry airport. If your
dog or cat is not in apparent good
health, further examination by a
licensed veterinarian may be required
at your expense.
Puppies and Kittens must be 4
months old and fully vaccinated for
rabies when entering Qatar.
The following breeds are not
permitted to enter Qatar: American
Staffordshire Terrier, Boerboel,
Boston Terrier, Boxer, Bull Terrier,

Akita, Neopolitan Mastiff, Afghan
