The Coquette Jazz Band
The music of the swing era is enjoying a resurgence amongst hip
city bars and clubs - especially the exhilarating period of the
1930’s, 40’s, often referred to as the ’Golden Age of Jazz’. With
its pumping rhythms
and stomps, it never
fails to get people on
their feet dancing.
The Coquette Jazz Band
was formed in 2016 by
trombonist Matyas
Papp and pianist
Matyas Bartha. Finding a common language in the musical style
they love most, the two quickly decided to expand, and sought
out the best musicians to round out their ensemble. The result
is a fabulous group of international young talent from Hungary,
Latvia, Serbia and the Ukraine, all dedicated to bringing swing
era classics back to new life with verve and passion.

The groups attention to the period’s unique characteristics of
style, technique and phrasing allows them to achieve this goal
with resounding success!
Based in Austria, the
Coquette Band can be
heard in concert halls, jazz
festivals and dance halls
regularly throughout
Europe.
The main profile of the
ensemble became the 1920’s, 30’s, 40’s danceable, swing music.
The rightly popular charleston, shimmy, fox-trott dances, the
old „gramophone-sound” of the
20’s, the pulse of the 30’s swing-
era and the 40’s swing,
dixieland-revival styles are their
main focus.
Thanks to the popular melodies
The Coquett Jazz Band can be a
great introduction for jazz
newcomers. With their
experiences and finely tuned
sound, an impressive showcase
to please long-time fans of the
music.

“…The Coquette Jazz Band is swingin! They’re playing great
arrangements of classic jazz tunes and they’d be great band to dance to
also…” – Evan Arntzen – NYC jazz musician
In the summer of 2017, The Coquette Jazz Band released their
first album, entitled „Isn’t This A Lovely Day”, which is a great
overview of their repertoire. The album
contains famous songs from the golden ages
of jazz like „Ain’t She Sweet” which drives
back to the streets of New Orleans, the hot
swing tune „Undecided”, and their tribute to
Ella Fitzgerald - the queen of swing -, the well-
known standard „Them There Eyes”. Their next release comes in
the summer of 2018 with the title „Jive At Five”. This album they
specially dedicate for the lovers of swing dance and lindy hop.

In their programme you can find many famous song and
arrangements from Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Duke
Ellington, Benny Goodman and Count Basie. Lately they also
started working with swing dance groups like the Lindy Cats
from Graz or the Pepita Swing Dance Community in Budapest.
The Coquette Jazz Band plays enjoyable, danceable swing music
in a small pub or even in a big concert hall.
”…with lightness and humour in their playing as well as great feeling and
passion for swing-jazz, this band makes you feel the music swingin’, makes
you happy and makes you wanna dance…”
